• He was born into a creative Spanish family
• He first showed signs of talent at the age of 10
• His first exhibition was at the age of 13
• 1900-1904 and traveled to Madrid, Barcelona and Paris and he sculpted and painted in hues of blues and greys because he was sad when one of his friends died
• 1904-1906 his palette brightened, he moved to Paris and this became known as the Rose Period with shades of red and pink dominating his work
• Later he worked with Braque his friend and they developed cubism.
• They used cubes to present a new reality using perspective and illusion

Collage – a piece of art made by sticking various different materials such as photographs and pieces of paper or fabric onto a backing.
Picasso invented collage in 1912 when he glued a painted of oil cloth, newspaper clippings and other materials to his paintings.

• More Picasso paintings have been stolen than any other artist with over 1,000 works of his art listed as stolen
• His first word was “pencil” likely learned from watching his father who was an artist
• His first major painting was called “The Communion” featuring his parents and sister kneeling before an alter
• He completed the School of Fine Arts entrance exam at age 13 in one week what took others one month to complete
• Lived to be 91 years old• He donated the sculpture to the
city of Chicago but would not accept money for it, no one knows what it represents.
