JAMMU, Jan 9:International Human Rightsactivists & chairman (IHRO)India Dr Nem Singh Premi andlegal advisor (IHRO) R R Bagin association with InternationalHuman Rights Organization(IHRO) Jammu & Kashmirteam members today framed theorganizational body by induct-ing young and potential volun-teers as office bearers of IHROJ&K for conducting informa-tion, awareness and helping var-ious programmes in the State.

As per a release, HamidChoudhary was elected chairmanof IHRO, J&K, Rajeev Sudan asits president , Balwan Singh asvice president, Dheeraj SinghBhran as State secretary, DayaRam Daya as media coordinatorand Dharun Kesar as secretary.

Dr Nem Singh Premi alsosaid that need of the hour is thatthe awareness should be spreadamong the masses on State andalso at district level so that theorganization could provide ahelping hand to miserable, poorand helpless people whoa revictims of inhuman treatment,torture and exploitation.

JAMMU, Jan 9: Hindu ShivSena (HSS), J&K todayexpressed serious concern overthe fire that broke out in a wardof Government MedicalCollege (GMC), Jammu, lastnight.

Criticizing the administra-tion of GMC and AssociatedHospitals, HSS president,Krishan Manhas, alleged thatthe incident occurred due tonegligence of administration,as neither there was arrange-ment of fire extinguishers northe water pipe-line was func-tioning, which could havebeen used for extinguishingthe fire.

He further alleged that theessential equipments lying inthe Jammu hospitals particular-ly GMC Jammu are in worstcondition and there is no properstaff to handle these costlyequipments forcing the patientsto go outside the State for med-ical treatment.

Youth commits suicide,labourer dies in mishap

UDHAMPUR, Jan 9: Inseparate incident, a youth com-mitted suicide by hangingwhile a labourer engaged forNashri tunnel project diedafter a roll of iron wire fell onhim, here today.

A youth , namely RaghuvirSingh (22), son of Kartar Singhof Battal Majalta, was foundhanging from a tree in forestarea near Battal Majalta. Thehanging body was spotted bysome locals, who informed thePolice.

Later, the dead body wasshifted to PHC Majalta forpostmortem while police hasregistered a case in this con-

nection for further investiga-tion.

In a separate incident, alaborer of Nashri tunnel projectwas critically injured when aniron wire roll fell on near Kud.His fellow labourers shiftedhim to hospital where doctorsdeclared him as brought died.

The deceased was identifiedas Mohammad Shafi (28) son ofGhulam Mohd of village DnatRamban. Kud Police has regis-tered a case in this connection.

Meanwhile, an unidentifiedman was found dead onNational Highway at Moud.Police has shifted the body toDistrict Hospital Udhampurfor identification and otherlegal formalities.

JAMMU, Jan 9: The 5-daytraining programme organizedfor Heads of the Institutions(newly promoted Headmasters)under RMSA in GovernmentGirls Higher Secondary School,Canal Road, Jammu, concludedtoday.

Organized by DistrictInstitute of Education andTrainings Jammu, the pro-gramme had begun on January5. Total 26 Headmasters fromDistrict Jammu participated inthe programme.

The main focus of the train-ing programme was to improvethe administrative skills includ-ing role and responsibility ofDDO, leave rule, civil servicerules, maintenance of servicebook, calculation of pension,Right to Information Act (RTI),Income Tax Rule, etc.

The training programme wascoordinated by Tripta Dogra andAnuradha Sharma. The resourcePersons were DIET faculty andmembers outsourced from other

JAMMU, Jan 9: Army todayorganized free medical campsat Azmatabad and villageGosain- Nar in khrew area ofPampore.

At village Gosain-Nar inPampore, the medical campwas organized by 50 RR as apart of Operation Sadbhavanaunder the aegis of ChinarCorps.

A team of Army doctors ofVictor Force besides two doc-tors from Sub District HospitalPampore provided medical con-sultation to 530 people includ-ing 225 male, 175 female and130 children of nearby villagesand distributed free medicines.

Free blood sugar testing wasalso done for the needy vil-lagers. A health awareness cam-paign was also conducted at thevenue on hygiene and sanita-tion, life style diseases andimportance of vaccination tocreate awareness among resi-dents of the area. Free station-ary was also distributed to thechildren who attended the cam-paign.

At Azmatabad, the medicalcamp was organized by

Rashtriya Rifles Battalionunder Romeo Force to providethe healthcare to young chil-dren and create awarenessregarding health.

A team of unit medical offi-cer and nursing assistant spentquality time in medical checkupand rendered medical advice toall children.

The Army doctors alsomade the locals aware of theimportance of water hygiene intheir day to day life and laidspecial emphasis on diseasesprone to children.

Alos, a health awarenesscamp at village Makri wasorganized yesterday by theJhangar Battalion under theNaushera Brigade.

Under the programme, themain focus was laid on healthproblems and advisories relatedto women and children.Medical Screening, treatmentand advisories were carried outon approximately 238 womenand 137 children.

Subsequent to the medicalcheckup, a lecture on "Diseasesrelated to Women andChildren" was delivered by thedoctors and an interactive ses-sion was also conducted.

Out of total 105 voters, 103cast their votes.

Surinder Sharma secured 64votes and in a triangular contest,he defeated Gulshan (23 votes)and Anil Vijay( 14 votes). Twovotes are declared invalid.

For the post of secretary,Yog Raj achieved 49 votes andhe defeated Sunil Kumar (19)and Sunny Mahajan (31) while4 votes are invalid.

As per the reports thecause of the fire has beenascertained as electric shock.The owner of the shop RenuSalathia wife of Sonu Slathiaof Mandi Gharota (GurhaSlathia) said that entire mate-rial in the shop was totally lostin the fire.

Liquor smuggling bidfoiled, bootlegger held

KATRA, Jan 9: Katra Police today foiled an attempt of smug-gling liquor to the holy town and arrested the bootlegger.

Police team laid a special naka at Varun Chowk Katra andintercepted one Indica car, bearing Registration No.4471/ JK14A,driven by one Imran Khan of Chamba Katra. During checking ofthe vehicle, 43 poly pouches, measuring 250/250 ml each of J&KExcise liquor, were recovered from the vehicle.

Police seized the liquor pouches and arrested the accused. Thevehicle, used for transportation of liquor in the holy, was alsoseized.

In this connection, a case under Section 48-A Act, 188/RPChas been registered at Police Station Katra.
