HSS expresses concern over GMC fire Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Jan 9: Hindu Shiv Sena (HSS), J&K today expressed serious concern over the fire that broke out in a ward of Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, last night. Criticizing the administra- tion of GMC and Associated Hospitals, HSS president, Krishan Manhas, alleged that the incident occurred due to negligence of administration, as neither there was arrange- ment of fire extinguishers nor the water pipe-line was func- tioning, which could have been used for extinguishing the fire. He further alleged that the essential equipments lying in the Jammu hospitals particular- ly GMC Jammu are in worst condition and there is no proper staff to handle these costly equipments forcing the patients to go outside the State for med- ical treatment. Youth commits suicide, labourer dies in mishap Excelsior Correspondent UDHAMPUR, Jan 9: In separate incident, a youth com- mitted suicide by hanging while a labourer engaged for Nashri tunnel project died after a roll of iron wire fell on him, here today. A youth , namely Raghuvir Singh (22), son of Kartar Singh of Battal Majalta, was found hanging from a tree in forest area near Battal Majalta. The hanging body was spotted by some locals, who informed the Police. Later, the dead body was shifted to PHC Majalta for postmortem while police has registered a case in this con- nection for further investiga- tion. In a separate incident, a laborer of Nashri tunnel project was critically injured when an iron wire roll fell on near Kud. His fellow labourers shifted him to hospital where doctors declared him as brought died. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Shafi (28) son of Ghulam Mohd of village Dnat Ramban. Kud Police has regis- tered a case in this connection. Meanwhile, an unidentified man was found dead on National Highway at Moud. Police has shifted the body to District Hospital Udhampur for identification and other legal formalities. Training programme for Headmasters concludes Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Jan 9: The 5-day training programme organized for Heads of the Institutions (newly promoted Headmasters) under RMSA in Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Canal Road, Jammu, concluded today. Organized by District Institute of Education and Trainings Jammu, the pro- gramme had begun on January 5. Total 26 Headmasters from District Jammu participated in the programme. The main focus of the train- ing programme was to improve the administrative skills includ- ing role and responsibility of DDO, leave rule, civil service rules, maintenance of service book, calculation of pension, Right to Information Act (RTI), Income Tax Rule, etc. The training programme was coordinated by Tripta Dogra and Anuradha Sharma. The resource Persons were DIET faculty and members outsourced from other departments. Principal DIET Jammu, Mangal Dev while speaking at the valedictory session stressed upon the participants to work with dedication to improve the quality of education. Army organizes medical camps Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Jan 9: Army today organized free medical camps at Azmatabad and village Gosain- Nar in khrew area of Pampore. At village Gosain-Nar in Pampore, the medical camp was organized by 50 RR as a part of Operation Sadbhavana under the aegis of Chinar Corps. A team of Army doctors of Victor Force besides two doc- tors from Sub District Hospital Pampore provided medical con- sultation to 530 people includ- ing 225 male, 175 female and 130 children of nearby villages and distributed free medicines. Free blood sugar testing was also done for the needy vil- lagers. A health awareness cam- paign was also conducted at the venue on hygiene and sanita- tion, life style diseases and importance of vaccination to create awareness among resi- dents of the area. Free station- ary was also distributed to the children who attended the cam- paign. At Azmatabad, the medical camp was organized by Rashtriya Rifles Battalion under Romeo Force to provide the healthcare to young chil- dren and create awareness regarding health. A team of unit medical offi- cer and nursing assistant spent quality time in medical checkup and rendered medical advice to all children. The Army doctors also made the locals aware of the importance of water hygiene in their day to day life and laid special emphasis on diseases prone to children. Alos, a health awareness camp at village Makri was organized yesterday by the Jhangar Battalion under the Naushera Brigade. Under the programme, the main focus was laid on health problems and advisories related to women and children. Medical Screening, treatment and advisories were carried out on approximately 238 women and 137 children. Subsequent to the medical checkup, a lecture on "Diseases related to Women and Children" was delivered by the doctors and an interactive ses- sion was also conducted. Parlor shop catches fire Excelsior Correspondent SAMBA, Jan 9: One beau- ty parlor shop gutted in fire at Gurha Slathia due this morn- ing. As per the reports the cause of the fire has been ascertained as electric shock. The owner of the shop Renu Salathia wife of Sonu Slathia of Mandi Gharota (Gurha Slathia) said that entire mate- rial in the shop was totally lost in the fire. Liquor smuggling bid foiled, bootlegger held Excelsior Correspondent KATRA, Jan 9: Katra Police today foiled an attempt of smug- gling liquor to the holy town and arrested the bootlegger. Police team laid a special naka at Varun Chowk Katra and intercepted one Indica car, bearing Registration No.4471/ JK14A, driven by one Imran Khan of Chamba Katra. During checking of the vehicle, 43 poly pouches, measuring 250/250 ml each of J&K Excise liquor, were recovered from the vehicle. Police seized the liquor pouches and arrested the accused. The vehicle, used for transportation of liquor in the holy, was also seized. In this connection, a case under Section 48-A Act, 188/RPC has been registered at Police Station Katra.

Police team laid a special naka at Varun Chowk Katra andintercepted one Indica car, bearing Registration No.4471/ JK14A,driven by one Imran Khan of Chamba Katra. During checking ofthe vehicle, 43 poly pouches, measuring 250/250 ml each of J&KExcise liquor, were recovered from the vehicle.

Police seized the liquor pouches and arrested the accused. Thevehicle, used for transportation of liquor in the holy, was alsoseized.

In this connection, a case under Section 48-A Act, 188/RPChas been registered at Police Station Katra.
