ERIAFF Network
The Network of European Regions for Innovation in Agriculture, Food and
Forestry is an informal partnership launched on September 19th 2012 in
Florence by a core group of 24 European Regions, at the initiative of the
Regional Government of Tuscany.
Main features of the partnership:
- Voluntary participation
- Soft commitment by Members (letter of adhesion)
- No fees
- Trust-based collaboration
2012, the context
• Ongoing debate on 2014-2020 programming period.
Rural Development with more emphasis on innovation
• Launch of 5 European Innovation Partnerships.
One on Agriculture: EIP AGRI
• Horizon 2020 programme, with earmarked funds for
Agri-related research (4,5 B€)
• Lack of Regional initiatives focused on rural innovation

ERIAFF Partners
Regional Governments involve their stakeholders: Innovation agencies,
Technology Clusters, Universities, RTOs, Farmers associations, Companies
ERIAFF Working Groups
With an informal structure, ERIAFF has allowed European Regions to organize
themselves into dynamic networks on diverse aspects related with Agricultural
Innovation, becoming facilitators of both information flow and links between
stakeholders across their territories as well as across the European Union.
