T oday's parable is Christ's answer to the question so frequently asked: "Why does God permit evil to triumph so often in this world, why are the wicked allowed to prosper?" The triumph of the wicked is short-lived; the reward of the Christian who suffers from their wickedness is everlasting. The very wickedness and injustices of
evil-doers are one of the ways that God uses to perfect his elect. It is only on a battlefield that a true soldier can be proved. In the parable, the weed does not destroy the wheat. It only makes it more difficult for the wheat to grow to maturity. So it is with the Christian. No one can take his faith from him, but living up to it is made more difficult by the evil influence and bad example of sinners. If some succumb to this evil influence and give up the practice of their faith, the fault is theirs. God can force no man to serve him. The patience of the farmer in letting the weed grow on until harvest time, exemplifies the infinite mercy of God toward sinners. The weed could not change its nature, but the sinner can change his ways and God gives him every chance and every help to do this, up to his last moment of life. No sinner will be excluded from heaven because of the sins he committed but because he did not repent of these sins while he had the opportunity. We must learn a double lesson of patience from this parable. First, to be patient with those who make our spiritual progress more difficult for us—they are actually helping us to be better Christians if we bear with patience the

L a parábola de hoy es la respuesta de Cristo a la pregunta que se hace con tanta frecuencia: "¿Por qué Dios permite que el mal triunfe tan a menudo en este mundo, por qué a los malvados se les permite prosperar?" El triunfo de los impíos es de corta duración; la recompensa del cristiano que sufre de su maldad es eterna. La
misma maldad e injusticias de los malhechores son una de las formas en que Dios usa para perfeccionar a sus elegidos. Sólo en un campo de batalla se puede probar un verdadero soldado. En la parábola, la cizaña no destruye el trigo. Solo hace que sea más difícil para el trigo crecer hasta la madurez. Así es con el cristiano. Nadie puede quitarle su fe, pero estar a la altura se hace más difícil por la mala influencia y el mal ejemplo de los pecadores. Si algunos sucumben a esta influencia malvada y renuncian a la práctica de su fe, la culpa es de ellos. Dios no puede obligar a ningún hombre a servirle. La paciencia del agricultor al dejar que la cizaña crezca hasta la cosecha, ejemplifica la infinita misericordia de Dios hacia los pecadores. La cizaña no puede cambiar su naturaleza, pero el pecador puede cambiar sus formas y Dios le da todas las oportunidades y todas las ayudas para hacerlo, hasta su último momento de vida. Ningún pecador será excluido del cielo por los pecados que cometió, sino porque no se arrepintió de estos pecados mientras tuvo la oportunidad. Debemos aprender una doble lección de paciencia de esta parábola. Primero, ser pacientes con aquellos que hacen que nuestro progreso espiritual sea más difícil para nosotros, en realidad nos están ayudando a ser mejores cristianos si tenemos paciencia con las heridas que nos infligen. Segundo, debemos tratar de imitar la paciencia que Dios muestra en sus tratos con los pecadores. Si bien no debemos aprobar sus actos malvados, o sus pecados, aún debemos considerarlos como nuestros hermanos y hacer todo lo que esté a nuestro alcance para volverlos al camino correcto al cielo. Al actuar así, no sólo estaremos ayudando a un hermano débil en el accidentado camino al cielo, sino que también nos aseguraremos doblemente de nuestra propia llegada allí, porque Dios nunca será superado en generosidad.

While we must not approve of their evil deeds, or their sins, we must still look on them as our brothers and do all in our power to put them back on the right road to heaven. We can do this by good example, and by fervent prayer for their conversion. This is not easy for human nature, but we can be certain that God will give us the necessary grace and strength to subdue our natural weakness and aversion, if we try to act with charity and true brotherly interest toward our erring fellowmen. By acting thus, we will not only be helping a weak brother on the rugged road to heaven, we will also be making doubly sure of our own arrival there, for God will never be outdone in generosity.

Our Catholic Church teaches that the parents, considered the first and foremost educators by the Church, are called to pass on the Catholic faith to their children. St. Teresa of Calcutta explained this experience in the domestic church very simply. She said, “The best and surest way to learn the love of Jesus is through the family.”
With this in mind we have decided for the 2020-2021 season to offer our Family Faith Formation program only. What this means is that a parent or legal guardian must attend with their child/ren two meetings per month and will receive lessons and activities to work on at home. The program we will be using is “A Family of Faith” by Sophia Press.
At the meetings the children will work in age groups with a catechists while adults participate in their own faith formation.
Registration and payment will be available online at the end of July. At that time you will be able to register for one of the following times.
The 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month from 9:45am—11:45am OR
The 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month from 6:00pm—8:00pm

Nuestra Iglesia Católica enseña que los padres, considerados los primeros y más importantes educadores por la Iglesia, están llamados a transmitir la fe católica a sus hijos. Santa Teresa de Calcuta explicó esta experiencia en la iglesia doméstica de manera muy simple. Ella dijo: "La mejor y más segura manera de aprender el amor de Jesús es a través de la familia".
Con esto en mente, hemos decidido para la temporada 2020-2021 ofrecer sólo nuestro programa de Formación en la Fe Familiar. Lo que esto significa es que un padre o tutor legal debe asistir con sus hijos dos reuniones por mes y recibirá lecciones y actividades para trabajar en casa. El programa que utilizaremos es “Una familia de Fe” de Sophia Press.
En las reuniones, los niños trabajarán en grupos según su edad con catequistas mientras los adultos participan en su propia formación en la fe.

WHY WE MAKE SIGN OF CROSS ON HEAD, LIPS AND CHEST BEFORE READING THE GOSPEL AT MASS?
The first and simplest answer to this question comes to us from the rubrics. The rubrics for the Mass are the instructions given to us in the Roman Missal and they tell us the structure of the Mass. They tell us when to stand, sit, kneel, respond, etc. They also tell us that we are to make the sign of the Cross on our forehead, lips and heart just prior to the reading of the Gospel. But your question is probably more about the “why” we do this. This gesture of signing ourselves with the Cross is a way of praying, “May the Lord be in my mind, on my lips and in my heart.” It is said prior to the reading of the Gospel as a way of prayerfully inviting Christ to come to us in these ways as His sacred Word is proclaimed. The hearing of the Gospel must change our minds, it must be proclaimed by our lips, and it must affect our heart. By heart we especially mean our will, affections, emotions and passions. So next time you sign yourself with the Cross before the Gospel make sure that it’s more than just an external gesture, make sure it is also a prayer and an invitation to Christ.
¿POR QUÉ HACEMOS UNA SEÑAL DE CRUZ EN LA CABEZA, LOS LABIOS Y EL PECHO ANTES DE LEER EL EVANGELIO EN LA MISA?
La primera y más simple respuesta a esta pregunta proviene de las rúbricas. Las rúbricas para la Misa son las instrucciones que nos dan en el Misal Romano y nos dicen la estructura de la Misa. Nos dicen cuándo pararnos, sentarnos, arrodillarnos, responder, etc. También nos dicen que debemos hacer el signo de la Cruz en nuestra frente, labios y corazón justo antes de la lectura del Evangelio.
Pero su pregunta es probablemente más sobre el “por qué” hacemos esto. Este gesto de hacernos la señal de la Cruz es una forma de orar: “Que el Señor esté en mi mente, en mis labios y en mi corazón”. Se dice antes de la lectura del Evangelio como una forma de invitar en oración a Cristo a venir a nosotros de esta manera a medida que se proclama Su sagrada Palabra. La escucha del Evangelio debe cambiar nuestras mentes, debe ser proclamado por nuestros labios y debe afectar nuestro corazón. De memoria nos referimos especialmente a nuestra voluntad, afectos, emociones y pasiones. Entonces, la próxima vez que te hagas la señal de la Cruz antes del Evangelio, asegúrate de que sea algo más que un gesto externo, asegúrate de que también sea una oración y una invitación a Cristo.
