External Evidence

The s e a r c h now t u r n s t o t h e p r i n t e d r e c o r d U n f o r t u n a t e l y no c a t a l o g u e s / o f t h e e a r l y f i l m makers a r e known t o e x i s t i n New Z e a l a n d , b u t some s e c o n d -a r y r e f e r e n c e works a re a v a i l a b l e and can be c o n s u l t e d f o r f u r t h e r i n f o r m a -t i o n .

I n Motion Pictures 1 8 9 4 - 1 9 1 2 c o m p i l e d by Howard L a m a r r W a l l s ( U S C o p y r i g h t O f f i c e 1953 ) we f i n d t h a t a f i l m t i t l e d Mr Edison at work m his chemical Laboratory was r e g i s t e r e d f o r c o p y r i g h t a t t h e L i b r a r y o f C o n g r e s s on 5 J u n e 1 8 9 7 S i n c e no o t h e r f i l m o f s i m i l a r s u b j e c t m a t t e r was r e g i s t e r e d by t h e E d i s o n Company i t can r e a s o n a b l y be c o n c l u d e d t h a t f i l m 4 i s Mr Edisorr at Work m his Chemical Laboratory, an A m e r i c a n f i l m o f 1 8 9 7
