The five-hour pre-licensing course is a pre-requisite for obtaining a New York State Driver’s License. Those wishing to enroll in the course may do so with the secretary in the Counseling Center at the high school, Monday – Friday. You may also register by mailing the form on the back of this brochure with your payment. Please allow time for mailed payments to reach us to guarantee your seat in class. You must bring to class your valid NYS Learner’s Permit. All participants must be enrolled by the Friday

morning before the class begins. For walk-ins and

Monday registrants a late fee of $5.00 will be added and

Dr. Amy will have handouts covering lifestyle changes and specific stretches and exercises for you to achieve a healthy back.

High School Room 104 6:30 -8:00 p.m. Tuition: $15.00 1 evening Instructor: Dr. Richard Shade September 27 Cleansing accelerates the removal of impurities from your body while revitalizing your body to be stronger, resist illness better and be more efficient than a body filled with impurities. In addition, cleansing the body of toxins often allows people to lose weight and be better able to maintain their ideal weight. Dr. Shade will present a specific program that will help you in becoming healthier.

Create a beautiful centerpiece for your Thanksgiving table. You may choose from two different styles of arrangements using traditional fresh fall flowers. Algonquin Middle School Room PFA 2 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuition: $60.00 4 weeks Instructor: Carol Winkley Starts: Nov. 1 Come to a quilting group and work on a project of your choice. The first week you will be able to look through a large assortment of patterns and choose a project. If ready, you may start your project on the first night. Weeks two through 4 we will work on everyone’s individual projects. This class will be fun and will make you take the time to do something for yourself!!!

While learning food preparation skills is the main ingredient, each class adds a heap of kitchen safety, a scoop of etiquette, a handful of table setting, a pinch of recipe reading, and laughter to taste. Each week we will be learning how to cook an entrée and a dessert from recipes that they can take home and enjoy with the family. The first two classes will have a Halloween theme and the last two classes will have a Thanksgiving theme. This class will enhance their communication skills and ability to work within a small group setting. Maximum # of students per class is 12, so register early!! Class will start promptly at 6:00 p.m. and parents are welcome to stay. *Taught by former Kindergarten Teacher, Miss Brown, from

on the second floor hallway at the high school only. If registering by mail, you must wait to receive your pass in the mail before you begin walking. Your pass MUST be worn

High School Library 2 Separate offerings Tuition: $25.00 Mon., Oct. 17-6:30-9:00 p.m. Instructor: Johanna Flanigan or Sat., Dec. 3- 9:00-11:30 a.m. CPR for Family and Friends is an American Heart Association course designed to teach lay rescuers the basics of CPR. This program uses both practice-while-watching format to teach skills in CPR, AED use and the relief of choking victims. The course is intended for college-dorm resident assistants, athletes, community groups, workplace wellness programs or people who simply want to learn CPR and who do not require

certification. This course covers adult, child, and infant CPR, the use of an AED and adult, child and infant choking relief.

Fundamentals of all strokes will be taught, including forehand, backhand, serve, volley and overhead. Scoring and rules will also be addressed. Each class will begin with a stretching and warm-up routine and will include some doubles play. Please bring your own tennis racquet, plus a can of

Golf is a game you can learn at any age and enjoy for the rest of your life! Join us for a fun and inexpensive 4 week clinic. Deadline to register is Monday, September 19**. Pre-requisite: Students need to know how to knit, purl,

cast on and bind off.

In this class, students will have fun learning how to knit with double pointed knitting needles and how to read a pattern. The class project will be to knit a winter hat, a preemie hat or a baby hat. The instructor will have all supplies available in a kit at the first class. Kits will cost approximately $20. Students will be able to purchase the kits at the first class. **When you register for class, please specify whether you

want to knit a winter hat, a preemie hat or the baby hat. If

you want to knit a winter hat, please specify your first,

second, and third choice of colors.

Students need to bring to class: scissors, tape measure, pen/pencil, and a notebook. Any questions, call the instructor at 674-8141 before 8:00 p.m.

The level of play is at the beginner/intermediate level. A set schedule will be given once teams are formed. Anyone can learn to paint! You will learn many of the basic strokes of Tole Painting and become familiar with decorative painting terms and techniques. Beginners as well as those who have painted before are most welcome. Students will paint at least two projects during this six week course. Prior students bring usual supplies; new students should bring a water container and paper towels. New students will need to make

the one time purchase of a brush kit at the cost of $20.00

from the instructor on the first night of class. (Returning students may also purchase this kit by contacting Jodi.) A

supply fee for all participants for paint used during class,

and painting surfaces will be $20.00 also to be paid to the

CARD MAKING CAN BE FUN!

Join me for a fun filled evening of holiday card making. Send your friends and relatives a handmade card this holiday season. In this class you will make at least 15 adorable cards and learn the basics of stamping and paper cutting. This class is perfect for beginners or experienced card makers alike. Beginners will learn the basics of card making while more experienced participants will learn how to make cards quickly and easily. Please bring to class some type of scrapbook adhesive which can be purchased at any craft store. The instructor will have a limited number available for purchase the night of the class. Anyone who already has a paper trimmer is encouraged to bring their own. The instructor will have several available during class but you may have to share.

A materials fee of $13.00 (to be paid directly to the

instructor) will be collected at the beginning of the class.

It’s time to get that old chair seat repaired! Enroll in this class and learn to do the job yourself. Both pressed and woven cane techniques can be taught in this class. We will learn to read a pattern and discuss types of fabrics and supplies needed. Classes 2 through 4 - work on and complete a project of your choice.

Is he jumping up on your guests? Maybe it’s time to take your pet to basic dog obedience training! Basic skills to be taught are: sit, stay, down, come, heel, etc. In this course, you will learn behavioral, reward based training. Week two

will be without dogs. At this time, participants identify problems and goals for you and your dog. The final week involves a version of the canine good citizen evaluation of your dog. The course is designed for dog owners who want to understand basic dog training for both the home and working dogs in public. This course will begin with on lead training, but will move into off lead training as well as the basics of a canine good citizen test and or AKC companion dog certification. The course will not certify dogs for either certification, but will prepare dogs and owners for tests of this kind. The same skills are continued from the basic course: sit, stay, down, come, heel, etc. However, the level of execution is advanced from the basic level. This course is held indoors; dogs MUST be capable of working indoors.

There is no other city like New York City during the holidays!! Take a day off before the holiday craziness begins to enjoy the spectacular festive sights in New York City. Visit Central Park, explore your childhood at FAO Schwartz, the World's Largest Toy Store! Take in a Broadway Show! Or visit the many museums. And don't forget to check out the view from the World Famous Empire State Building! It's a day to make your own. This is a non-escorted trip- individuals are responsible for their own itinerary upon arrival.

The Yankee Trails bus will leave the Averill Park High School parking lot at 7:00 a.m. sharp! Passengers will be dropped off and picked up at Bryant Park located behind the New York City public library on 42nd Street between 5th Ave & 6th Ave. Departure from New York City will be at 7:00 p.m. sharp, with an approximate arrival time back at the high school of 10:30 p.m. (weather permitting). We will have a 15 minute rest stop to and from NYC if needed. Not responsible for traffic delays. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. No smoking will be allowed on the bus. Dates: September 24, November 5, January 7

This 1 day course will allow New York State motorists to receive a 10% discount on motor vehicle liability and collision insurance premiums for a three year period. Drivers who have incurred violation points on their driving record will be eligible to receive a 4 point reduction. For point reduction purposes, this class can be taken again after 18 months. The course is certified with the Department of Motor Vehicles and the National Safety Council. The program consists of six hours of classroom instruction including videos, lecture and discussion. Students will be taught accident prevention techniques along with useful refresher information. Course materials include a student workbook and a New York State Driver’s Manual. Payment must be

received by the Wednesday before the class to secure an

instructor.
