HampW- Under the coordination of Nipa Bower the Annual Wellness Fair was held on

Wednesday April 12th from 10-2 There were 54 vendors registered and 52 participated We

also had a Wellness Screening early morning from 730-930 with 23 people signed up

There were a total 387 attendees accounted for 300 students 72 staff and 15 faculty Nipa

reports many other attendees (mostly staff amp faculty) that did not register and she hopes to

address this in subsequent years to improve assessment

The Wellness Fair provided free 15-minute session massage reiki and acupuncture for those

who signed up We had 5 massage therapists 1 reiki and 1 acupuncturist Each therapist

received $10000 for that day from 10-2 The Wellness Fair committee also spent $14500 to set

up a healthy snacks table

CPRFirst Aid

There were 9 stafffaculty signed up

Spring in Your Step walking program

There are 87 signed up for this six week program

This event was paid for by a grant from Health and Wellness Fund

Membership ndash Reported to State APSCUF as of April 30 2017 Faculty Membership is 353

members 62 fairshare (including lab school substitute teachers) Coach Membership is 25

members 12 fairshare

So far for fall 2017- 14 TT are hired and 1 new full time one year only Still waiting on 3

departments to finish 4 TT searches Please keep in mind the dates of fall faculty orientation

August 21-23

Mobilization At Legislative Assembly in April chapter Mobilization Committees were charged

to come up with specific examples to as many points as possible on the attached Bill of

Particulars and to forward those to the statewide Mobilization Chair The new committee

should begin to work on this as soon as it is convened with its new chair

A letter from Bertie Landes ndash Retired SU Field Hockey Coach

Dear faculty Some of you may know that I have retired as of July 31st I wanted to take this opportunity to THANK YOU for all you have done and continue to do for our field hockey players and athletes in general I was proud of our studentathletes on and off the field and hope you appreciated their commitment to your study area and to the university It has been a joy to serve as the field hockey coach for 18 years and lacrosse coach for the first 7 years It was a pleasure to serve for a few years as the coachrsquos representative with APSCUF and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know many of the faculty members I realized early in my career here at Shippensburg University that we had faculty members who were committed to academics and cared deeply for their students Thank you to those of you who took an interest in our studentathletes sport it was always great to see you at our games and to hear from my players the interacting you had with them concerning their games I enjoyed receiving your emails of congratulations in winning our two National Championships in 2013 and 2016 When I took our players on the road we always spent time in study sessions and I believe it was because my players didnrsquot want to disappoint you as their professors and also their strong commitment to doing their best in their academic life I also want to thank those of you who supported me and our team especially this past year as we dealt with the death of Amanda Strous our former player and coach She taught us to live our lives to the fullest not sweating the small stuff caring for those we come into contact with and having fun along the way Living her legacy was the main purpose of our season this past fall and winning the National Championship was just the icing on the cake May you continue to strive for excellence from your students and yourself as you guide this next generation into the future If nothing else I have learned that life is short and what help and love we can share along the way will impact lives forever Have a great summer Bertie Landes

Shippensburg University Wins 2016-17 Dixon Trophy as

PSACrsquos Top Program SU claims league-best eighth Dixon Trophy first since 2010-11

Shippensburg University was announced Tuesday morning as the winner of the 2016-17 Dixon Trophy

reclaiming the honor as the top overall athletics program in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference

(PSAC)

The Dixon Trophy standings are based on an average score for every PSAC Championship sport that an

institution sponsors Shippensburg paced the conference with a 1282 overall average while IUP finished

second (1265) and West Chester third (1236)

Shippensburg has now won the Dixon Trophy a conference-record eight times No other school has won

the Dixon Trophy more than three times

Tuesdays honor also marks the first Dixon Trophy for Shippensburg since 2010-11 and is the first for the

Raiders since the current trophy scoring format went into effect in 2012-13 Im extremely proud of Shippensburg winning the 2016-17 Dixon Cup Trophy said Dr Barbara Lyman

interim president We feel very fortunate to gain this prestigious honor

Its really the contributions from all 20 sports that makes this a really rewarding honor

Shippensburg claimed the 2016-17 Dixon Trophy on the strength of a league-best seven conference

championships mens and womens cross country mens basketball mens and womens indoor track amp

field and mens and womens outdoor track amp field No other PSAC school won more than three

conference championships

New Programs to be offered at SHIP

Sustainability program approved at SU

On July 13 Shippensburg University received approval from the Board of

Governors of Pennsylvaniarsquos State System of Higher Education for a Bachelor of Science in Sustainability The program

offered through the College of Arts and Sciencersquos GeographyEarth Science Department will prepare students for careers

in sustainability and resource conservation and management

Over the next ten years jobs in the field of sustainability are projected to increase by 68 percent With many positions

anticipated in Franklin Cumberland Adams Dauphin and York counties Ship is well positioned to provide for this need in

the region

ldquoWersquore excited about the new sustainability degree in the Department of GeographyEarth Science Sustainability has

emerged as the cornerstone in the implementation and understanding of land use and economic development policies at

local state and federal levelsrdquo said Dr William Blewett professor and chair of GeographyEarth Science Department

In 2015 Ship received a $50000 National Science Foundation InTeGrate grant to develop curriculum that supports

sustainability The new degree emerged through interdisciplinary collaboration that included faculty from the

GeographyEarth Science Biology Mathematics Psychology Management Information Systems and Supply Chain

Management departments (see SU News Release for more info wwwshipedunews)

Fourth engineering program approved at SU

On July 13 Shippensburg University received approval from the Board of

The new program offered through College of Arts and Sciencersquos Computer Science and Engineering Department will be

Shiprsquos fourth engineering program The department currently offers ABET-accredited computer engineering and software

engineering as well as an electrical engineering program that is designed to meet national academic standards

ldquoWe are excited to offer the first mechanical engineering degree within the State System With the addition of the this

program we continue to meet our goal of developing new academic programs that support the 21st century technology

Dear faculty Some of you may know that I have retired as of July 31st I wanted to take this opportunity to THANK YOU for all you have done and continue to do for our field hockey players and athletes in general I was proud of our studentathletes on and off the field and hope you appreciated their commitment to your study area and to the university It has been a joy to serve as the field hockey coach for 18 years and lacrosse coach for the first 7 years It was a pleasure to serve for a few years as the coachrsquos representative with APSCUF and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know many of the faculty members I realized early in my career here at Shippensburg University that we had faculty members who were committed to academics and cared deeply for their students Thank you to those of you who took an interest in our studentathletes sport it was always great to see you at our games and to hear from my players the interacting you had with them concerning their games I enjoyed receiving your emails of congratulations in winning our two National Championships in 2013 and 2016 When I took our players on the road we always spent time in study sessions and I believe it was because my players didnrsquot want to disappoint you as their professors and also their strong commitment to doing their best in their academic life I also want to thank those of you who supported me and our team especially this past year as we dealt with the death of Amanda Strous our former player and coach She taught us to live our lives to the fullest not sweating the small stuff caring for those we come into contact with and having fun along the way Living her legacy was the main purpose of our season this past fall and winning the National Championship was just the icing on the cake May you continue to strive for excellence from your students and yourself as you guide this next generation into the future If nothing else I have learned that life is short and what help and love we can share along the way will impact lives forever Have a great summer Bertie Landes

Shippensburg University Wins 2016-17 Dixon Trophy as

PSACrsquos Top Program SU claims league-best eighth Dixon Trophy first since 2010-11

Shippensburg University was announced Tuesday morning as the winner of the 2016-17 Dixon Trophy

reclaiming the honor as the top overall athletics program in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference

(PSAC)

The Dixon Trophy standings are based on an average score for every PSAC Championship sport that an

institution sponsors Shippensburg paced the conference with a 1282 overall average while IUP finished

second (1265) and West Chester third (1236)

Shippensburg has now won the Dixon Trophy a conference-record eight times No other school has won

the Dixon Trophy more than three times

Tuesdays honor also marks the first Dixon Trophy for Shippensburg since 2010-11 and is the first for the

Raiders since the current trophy scoring format went into effect in 2012-13 Im extremely proud of Shippensburg winning the 2016-17 Dixon Cup Trophy said Dr Barbara Lyman

interim president We feel very fortunate to gain this prestigious honor

Its really the contributions from all 20 sports that makes this a really rewarding honor

Shippensburg claimed the 2016-17 Dixon Trophy on the strength of a league-best seven conference

championships mens and womens cross country mens basketball mens and womens indoor track amp

field and mens and womens outdoor track amp field No other PSAC school won more than three

conference championships

New Programs to be offered at SHIP

Sustainability program approved at SU

On July 13 Shippensburg University received approval from the Board of

Governors of Pennsylvaniarsquos State System of Higher Education for a Bachelor of Science in Sustainability The program

offered through the College of Arts and Sciencersquos GeographyEarth Science Department will prepare students for careers

in sustainability and resource conservation and management

Over the next ten years jobs in the field of sustainability are projected to increase by 68 percent With many positions

anticipated in Franklin Cumberland Adams Dauphin and York counties Ship is well positioned to provide for this need in

the region

ldquoWersquore excited about the new sustainability degree in the Department of GeographyEarth Science Sustainability has

emerged as the cornerstone in the implementation and understanding of land use and economic development policies at

local state and federal levelsrdquo said Dr William Blewett professor and chair of GeographyEarth Science Department

In 2015 Ship received a $50000 National Science Foundation InTeGrate grant to develop curriculum that supports

sustainability The new degree emerged through interdisciplinary collaboration that included faculty from the

GeographyEarth Science Biology Mathematics Psychology Management Information Systems and Supply Chain

ldquoWe are excited to offer the first mechanical engineering degree within the State System With the addition of the this

program we continue to meet our goal of developing new academic programs that support the 21st century technology

Sustainability program approved at SU

On July 13 Shippensburg University received approval from the Board of

Governors of Pennsylvaniarsquos State System of Higher Education for a Bachelor of Science in Sustainability The program

offered through the College of Arts and Sciencersquos GeographyEarth Science Department will prepare students for careers

in sustainability and resource conservation and management

Over the next ten years jobs in the field of sustainability are projected to increase by 68 percent With many positions

anticipated in Franklin Cumberland Adams Dauphin and York counties Ship is well positioned to provide for this need in

the region

ldquoWersquore excited about the new sustainability degree in the Department of GeographyEarth Science Sustainability has

emerged as the cornerstone in the implementation and understanding of land use and economic development policies at

local state and federal levelsrdquo said Dr William Blewett professor and chair of GeographyEarth Science Department

In 2015 Ship received a $50000 National Science Foundation InTeGrate grant to develop curriculum that supports

sustainability The new degree emerged through interdisciplinary collaboration that included faculty from the

GeographyEarth Science Biology Mathematics Psychology Management Information Systems and Supply Chain

Governors of Pennsylvaniarsquos State System of Higher Education for a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering

The new program offered through College of Arts and Sciencersquos Computer Science and Engineering Department will be

Shiprsquos fourth engineering program The department currently offers ABET-accredited computer engineering and software

engineering as well as an electrical engineering program that is designed to meet national academic standards

ldquoWe are excited to offer the first mechanical engineering degree within the State System With the addition of the this

program we continue to meet our goal of developing new academic programs that support the 21st century technology

A letter from Bertie Landes ndash Retired SU Field Hockey Coach

Dear faculty Some of you may know that I have retired as of July 31st I wanted to take this opportunity to THANK YOU for all you have done and continue to do for our field hockey players and athletes in general I was proud of our studentathletes on and off the field and hope you appreciated their commitment to your study area and to the university It has been a joy to serve as the field hockey coach for 18 years and lacrosse coach for the first 7 years It was a pleasure to serve for a few years as the coachrsquos representative with APSCUF and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know many of the faculty members I realized early in my career here at Shippensburg University that we had faculty members who were committed to academics and cared deeply for their students Thank you to those of you who took an interest in our studentathletes sport it was always great to see you at our games and to hear from my players the interacting you had with them concerning their games I enjoyed receiving your emails of congratulations in winning our two National Championships in 2013 and 2016 When I took our players on the road we always spent time in study sessions and I believe it was because my players didnrsquot want to disappoint you as their professors and also their strong commitment to doing their best in their academic life I also want to thank those of you who supported me and our team especially this past year as we dealt with the death of Amanda Strous our former player and coach She taught us to live our lives to the fullest not sweating the small stuff caring for those we come into contact with and having fun along the way Living her legacy was the main purpose of our season this past fall and winning the National Championship was just the icing on the cake May you continue to strive for excellence from your students and yourself as you guide this next generation into the future If nothing else I have learned that life is short and what help and love we can share along the way will impact lives forever Have a great summer Bertie Landes

Shippensburg University Wins 2016-17 Dixon Trophy as

PSACrsquos Top Program SU claims league-best eighth Dixon Trophy first since 2010-11

Shippensburg University was announced Tuesday morning as the winner of the 2016-17 Dixon Trophy

reclaiming the honor as the top overall athletics program in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference

(PSAC)

The Dixon Trophy standings are based on an average score for every PSAC Championship sport that an

institution sponsors Shippensburg paced the conference with a 1282 overall average while IUP finished

second (1265) and West Chester third (1236)

Shippensburg has now won the Dixon Trophy a conference-record eight times No other school has won

the Dixon Trophy more than three times

Tuesdays honor also marks the first Dixon Trophy for Shippensburg since 2010-11 and is the first for the

Raiders since the current trophy scoring format went into effect in 2012-13 Im extremely proud of Shippensburg winning the 2016-17 Dixon Cup Trophy said Dr Barbara Lyman

interim president We feel very fortunate to gain this prestigious honor

Its really the contributions from all 20 sports that makes this a really rewarding honor

Shippensburg claimed the 2016-17 Dixon Trophy on the strength of a league-best seven conference

championships mens and womens cross country mens basketball mens and womens indoor track amp

field and mens and womens outdoor track amp field No other PSAC school won more than three

conference championships

New Programs to be offered at SHIP

Sustainability program approved at SU

On July 13 Shippensburg University received approval from the Board of

Governors of Pennsylvaniarsquos State System of Higher Education for a Bachelor of Science in Sustainability The program

offered through the College of Arts and Sciencersquos GeographyEarth Science Department will prepare students for careers

in sustainability and resource conservation and management

Over the next ten years jobs in the field of sustainability are projected to increase by 68 percent With many positions

anticipated in Franklin Cumberland Adams Dauphin and York counties Ship is well positioned to provide for this need in

the region

ldquoWersquore excited about the new sustainability degree in the Department of GeographyEarth Science Sustainability has

emerged as the cornerstone in the implementation and understanding of land use and economic development policies at

local state and federal levelsrdquo said Dr William Blewett professor and chair of GeographyEarth Science Department

In 2015 Ship received a $50000 National Science Foundation InTeGrate grant to develop curriculum that supports

sustainability The new degree emerged through interdisciplinary collaboration that included faculty from the

GeographyEarth Science Biology Mathematics Psychology Management Information Systems and Supply Chain
