How To Print Multiple Automatic “Numbered Tab Sheets”To Separate Documents by Sharon Worley, DC office

Rock ReportPage 2

Tech Tip

Click here to return to the Table of Contents

A staff employee needed tab sheets made that will au-tomatically number to separate her Exhibits in a docu-ment. It becomes very tedious to type the word “Tab”then manually type a number after the word “Tab” ifyou have about 100 Exhibits, let alone rememberingthe last number you used.

Word can automatically do this for you. First create anew page. Go to “Page Layout” and click on the“Margins” button. Set your margins to “Narrow”. Tothe right of “Page Setup” you see a little drop downarrow. Click on that and choose the “Layout” tab.Choose “Center” in the “vertical alignment” window(Figure 1). This will move your cursor down to thecenter of your page.

Now choose “MacPac Numbering,” then “Schemes.”Choose “Schemes” again and then “Article” which isalready highlighted then click on “Use” (Figure 2).When you click on “Use” you won’t see anything yet.Now on your toolbar, you will see numbers 1-9 (alsoknow as levels). Click on the number “1”.

The Word “Article I” will appear. Having your cursorsitting at the end of the word “Article I” click on the“Schemes” again and choose “Edit Schemes” you aregoing to type the word “Tab” and then a space.

Under “Number Style” choose 1,2,3 (Figure 3).Choose the “Paragraph” tab. Over in the “Font Size”window, select “12” and type in “75.” Click “OK” andyou are done. Your sheet should look like the below:

Now, right wherethat big fat para-graph mark is—put your cursorthere. Hold downtogether the keysCtrl & Shift, thenhit the “Enter”key. Voila! Younow have a se-cond sheet thatsays “TAB 2”.IMPORTANT:After you make

your “Tab 2” sheet, hit “Shift & Enter” key to get a bigparagraph mark. THEN hit the Ctrl, Shift and Enterkeys to get the next sheet. Keep doing this until youget the required number of sheets that you need.

When it comes tocomfort food, there is reallynothing quite likeyour mom’s spa-ghetti and meat-balls or a batch offreshly bakedsugar cookies. The only thingabout these deli-cious guilty pleas-ures is that theyaren’t exactly thehealthiest choic-es. Don’t get me

wrong—I fully endorse indulging in your favoritefoods when you get an undeniable craving. Butnowadays, with so many healthy recipes surfacing, there’s no reason not to have your cake and eat ittoo. Literally.

Today I’m going to share 10 healthy recipe swapsyou can use to make your favorite foods muchhealthier. Whether your weakness is pasta or pan-cakes, here are my favorite Bikini Boot Camp-approved ingredient swaps

1. Use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream whenyou’re whipping up a spinach dip or French onion dipas an appetizer. This swap will make any chip diphealthier, and plain, nonfat Greek yogurt is a muchbetter source of protein. If you’re feeling really ambi-tious, swap the chips for fresh veggies!

2. Use olive oil instead of butter when you’re cook-ing anything on the stovetop, like sautéed veggies orscrambled eggs. Unlike butter, olive oil doesn’t havecholesterol. In fact, it is known to help lower badcholesterol while increasing levels of good cholester-ol, according to Mayo Clinic. Just be sure to useextra virgin olive oil and keep it at a minimum sincetoo much oil makes for a high-fat diet.

3. Use a banana instead of an egg when you’remaking Sunday morning pancakes or a birthdaycake. The banana will provide sweetness and mois-ture, and it’s a great way to make your dish vegan-friendly. You can also use applesauce instead of abanana as another vegan-friendly replacement.

4. Use 1 tablespoon of chia seeds and 3 table-spoons of water instead of an egg to add moisture tomuffins or baked goods. Similar to using a bananaor applesauce, chia seeds are a low-fat, high fiberalternative that will make your recipe vegan friendly.

5. Use spaghetti squash instead of pasta whenyou’re craving carbs. Spaghetti squash is a vegeta-ble, so one serving can provide your body with therecommended daily intake of potassium, vitamin Aand vitamin C (Healthy Eating). Whole-wheat pastais a great way to satisfy your comfort food craving ifyou need it, but if you’re wanting to ditch the carbs(and a few pounds) go for the squash.

6. Use date sugar instead of Splenda and other arti-ficial sweeteners to make your recipes 100% morenatural. Most artificial sweeteners get their sweettaste from the chemical aspartame, which has beenlinked to scary side effects like heart palpitations, seizures, birth defects and cancer, according toLivestrong. On the other hand, date sugar is simplyground up dates, and it is not processed or refined.Use it the next time you go to sweeten your coffeeand you will get a good dose of vitamins and miner-als as well.

7. Use almond milk instead of cow’s milk for yourcereal, oatmeal and coffee. According to Fit Day,almond milk is one of the most nutritious milk substi-tutes out there, and it’s free of saturated fats. It’salso a great vegan source of protein, and has lesscalories per serving than cow’s milk.

8. Use mashed cauliflower instead of pizza crust thenext time you plan a romantic pizza-making date athome. This is one of my favorite ways to makehomemade pizza when you’re spending the nightdining at home with your special somebody becauseit’s healthier than pizza dough and low carb too.

9. Use 1 cup of soy milk + 2 tablespoons apple cidervinegar instead of 1 cup of buttermilk if you’re tryingto make vegan versions of recipes that call for but-termilk such as pancakes and biscuits.

10. Use avocado instead of mayonnaise for a sand-wich spread. Besides the fact that avocados are anutrient-rich food that come packed with omega-3sand good fatty acids, I actually think they taste betterthan mayonnaise!

I know that reading topreschool and school-age children is good, but is reading to ba-bies really important?Do they even under-stand what you aresaying?

The answer to bothquestions is emphati-

cally “yes.” Reading to infants contributes to the de-velopment of their growing brains and gives them agood start towards a lifelong love of reading and goodliterature. When you read to babies, it can also helpspeech development as they are taking in informationand beginning to learn about speech patterns. In ad-dition, synapses connect between your infant’s neu-rons as you read aloud, positively affecting child de-velopment in many areas.

Infants tune in to the rhythm and cadence of our voic-es, especially the familiar voices of their parents andcaregivers. While initially the rhythmic phrase, “Brownbear, brown bear, what do you see?”, for example, may not hold meaning, your baby is taking in thesounds of language and how they fit together. As ba-bies see a picture of a red bird in the book and youname the bird, they begin to make the connection be-tween what you say and the picture of the red bird. The more you read that book, the stronger the con-nection. The repetitive storyline makes the book fun, engaging, and easier to remember. Reading to ba-bies is not only a way to inspire a love of books frominfancy, but also an important way to grow a baby’svocabulary—first his understanding vocabulary andlater her speaking vocabulary.

Best Way To Read To Your Baby

Of course reading aloud to an infant is different thanreading aloud to a preschooler. With a baby, you maynot get through the whole book. Your baby may wantto hold the book and chew on it or try turning pages. All of these actions are appropriate and help your childbecome familiar with books and how to handle them.

x Make reading together a close cuddly time. Read-ing before bed may be the perfect time to holdyour baby on your lap and cuddle together whileyou read.

x Don’t worry about reading a book start to finish. Itis great if you can, but if your child wants to stopand hold or chew on the book, that is okay. Thatis another way infants take in information abouttheir world.

x Point out and name pictures. Later ask your babyto find the “cow”, “horse”, etc., when you point toit.

x Increase the length and complexity of books asyour child shows interest. By about one year ofage, some babies will enjoy hearing a short bookwith a storyline.

How To Choose Books For Babies

Books for babies should be easy for them to hold andmanipulate. Books in heavy cardboard (board books),cloth, plastic or even wood are popular and hold up toa baby’s use. Some recent favorites from the GrowingReaders Books of Excellence and Notables include:

x Everyone Eats by Julio Kuo

x In the Garden by Elizabeth Spurr

x Little Mouse by Alison Murray

x Whose Toes are Those? by Sally Symes

x I Can Do It Myself by Stephen Krensky

Find other notable books for babies on our GrowingReaders page. Enjoy reading as a wonderful oppor-tunity to connect with your infant and build his/herreading brain.
