We lost Saju Gopinath, one of our best and brightest to a cruel accident. The whole company mourned his untimely death and we were joined in our grief by our thoughtful and compassionate colleagues in Terumo BCT. Saju’s family will remember the kindness, support and sheer presence of so many of his colleagues during those dark hours. April was a bad month on the business front. We learned to our dismay that we had not achieved the FY14 India sales budget due to a revenue recognition issue. I am sure my colleagues in the Commercial team will accept that we have nobody to blame other than ourselves. We simply left it too late. On top of this news, we have a very poor start to the New Year with a dismal sales performance. What is of great concern is that our forecast was so inaccurate. It is clear that there is much to be done and we spent the last week of April doing some serious root cause analysis. A key issue which has surfaced is the need for discipline. Discipline in terms of reporting, planning, review and execution. I am confident that while we are down, we are not out. We have a long and proud history and we have been through many travails over the years. I look forward to our Commercial team pulling together and putting in solid work in May and June to get back on track and show the world why Terumo Penpol is the market leader. We had visitors from TBCT I&D and from the APAC Commercial organization to TPL for continuing the collaboration within the global TBCT organization. I attended the APAC Commercial Leaders’ meeting in Johor, Malaysia which was a well organized meeting with a solid business agenda mixed with networking and personal development sessions.RTB was a key focus during the meeting and was woven into the business agenda thanks to Fredrik and Caren. It is interesting to observe how HR and Finance are so much a part of the TBCT organization and how they support the Commercial and Operations divisions. We have much to learn from the global organization. The key message that Fredrik gave us was: No Excuses. Solid forecasting and planning and No Excuses. It’s a competitive marketplace and the best man, actually best company, will win. It’s a team sport now and we need to remember that we are part of a larger organization with one clear purpose:serve customers well and more effectively and efficiently than our competitors. April was a bad month for TPL. We lost Saju Gopinath, one of our best and brightest to a cruel accident.

The whole company mourned his untimely death and we were joined in our grief by our thoughtful and compassionate colleagues in Terumo BCT. Saju’s family will remember the kindness, support and sheer presence of so many of his colleagues during those dark hours.

April was a bad month on the business front. We learned to our dismay that we had not achieved the FY14 India sales budget due to a revenue recognition issue. I am sure my colleagues in the Commercial team will accept that we have nobody to blame other than ourselves. We simply left it too late.

On top of this news, we have a very poor start to the New Year with a dismal sales performance. What is of great concern is that our forecast was so inaccurate. It is clear that there is much to be done and we spent the last week of April doing some serious root cause analysis. A key issue which has surfaced is the need for discipline. Discipline in terms of reporting, planning, review and execution. I am confident that while we are down, we are not out. We have a long and proud history and we have been through many travails over the years. I look forward to our Commercial team pulling together and putting in solid work in May and June to get back on track and show the world why Terumo Penpol is the market leader.

Mr.C Balagopal, Founder Managing Director,TPLI have just heard the sad news of the tragic death of Saju in a motor accident a few hours ago. Vinita joins me in sending our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. We pray that his soul may rest in peace. It is very sad that a young man has been plucked away in the prime of his life, just when he was beginning to fulfil the promise he had shown earlier. It is a time of mourning for us in TPL. We have lost one of our best and brightest. It is difficult to come to terms with such a loss. Why did this have to happen? How could this happen to Saju, so young, so full of promise and such a big contributor to his family, to his company and to his community?My heart goes out to his young wife, his mother, his two little children and his extended family. Saju was above all a family man; he was dedicated to his family and chose to stay back in Trivandrum without considering other options as that would have meant that he would have to be apart from his mother and his town. He took his responsibilities as the eldest in his family seriously and the family can be justifiably proud of him.I have known Saju for the last 10 years ever since he came to work with us a young trainee straight out of business school. He impressed me with his quiet demeanour, his diligence, his neat turnout, hard work and unfailing good humour. He was also different from the rest of his colleagues. I have never heard him say a bad word about a fellow worker or use the grapevine to his advantage. While he was always good humoured and good tempered, one sensed a hint of steel when it came to his work. He was dogged in pursuit of company goals and his pride in his work showed in the quality of his work. A good team man, he was a good follower and ultimately a good leader.His early experience was in the Export department where he made a name for himself by the sheer quality of his work and earned the respect of colleagues across the world in Terumo, and later in Terumo BCT. Saju was not the flashy kind, preferring to let his work do the talking. The outpouring of condolence messages and calls from across the world testify to the regard in which he was held.He was identified as a high potential manager early on in his career and he made steady prog-ress in the Export department. He fulfilled the early promise when he was selected to head the Logistics department of TPL reporting directly to Global Logistics in Denver in 2014.I had some initial apprehensions about his ability to handle the job because of his youth and relative lack of experience in Domestic Logistics, but I never had any doubts about his ability or poten-tial. I wholeheartedly supported his candidature when I knew that he would be mentored by a seasoned senior leader like Suresh. He faced many challenges in his first year on the job and he handled them capably. The transition was carried out smoothly and it no doubt helped that he was supported by Vinod during the transition period.Saju volunteered for the Digitisation project in spite of his challenging job since this is an impor-tant project for the future of the company. A leader steps up when there is a challenge and Saju showed that quality when he volunteered for the project. Never afraid to ask for help, his good nature went a long way in getting others to go out of their way to help him.We will miss him.RIP Saju.

Mr. N Bhaskaran, Director - Sales ,TERUMOPENPOL LIMITED It is with deep regret and shock that I share with you the sad news of Saju who died in a tragic accident while returning home yesterday night. Let us all join together in sharing this grief, deep sorrow and convey our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. It is quite un-fortunate that we lost Saju, at a very young age with a bright promise ahead, a terrible loss to organization

Saju – it is nearly impossible to think about him without that innocent smile on his face; always willing to help out his colleagues and brimming

with positive energy. Having known him personally for the last 10 years, I have been fortunate enough to have worked with him closely for over 8 years. From the time he joined TPL as a trainee to his promotion as Assistant Manager, two of his traits stood the test of time and made a lasting impression on all of us – Professionalism and Simplicity. He used to approach work in a very systematic way and was never the one to attend any meeting, no matter how trivial, without thorough preparation. His commitment levels made him stand a class apart – over the past 6 months, he never missed out on any of the telephonic meetings with Terumo BCT, regardless of his increasingly busy schedule. The quality of his work speaks volumes for itself, from taking initiative for tracking shipments on EPCG licence execution/discharge, obtaining DEPB benefit and Star Export Trading House status to the various awards conferred on him by the Company. An individual with fresh ideas and perspectives, he often worked extremely hard to fulfill his personal and pro-fessional goals, the hallmark of a good manager. He always managed to balance the personal and pro-fessional side of every relationship at work; be it help-ing out his team members by sharing the workload, troubleshooting computer related problems or sharing the contents of his lunchbox (mostly his favourite delicacies – rice, beetroot dices and anchovy fish). One of his friends used to affectionately refer to him as ‘Sugunan’ (a person filled with good qualities), which absolutely rings true in his case.As much as he was a true professional, he was a dedi-cated family man. Blessed with two wonderful boys – Abhinav and Arpit – he always aspired and tried to be a very good father. He never shied away from any of his family commitments and helped out his mother with the business venture; spending time at the shop and driving his mother back home every single day.His tragic and untimely departure is a terrible loss to the Company and to all the associates who ever knew him or worked with him. I sincerely urge all of his team members to take his projects forward and ensure that they are completed. We must do what we can to support his family, by any means possible, to help see them through these difficult times. annual review

Annual review meeting was held on April 13, 2015 at Hotel Taj Vivantha. The difference in this meeting was that we had sessions on the following:• Marketplace• Gender Balance Strategy• HR Section on Raising the Bar

As part of Women’s Cell activities the Women’s Cell Team had done a survey of the women employees at TPL to better understand the working conditions and any is-sues faced by them and, one key issue that was raised by women at the Factory was the concern that in a few years’ time most of the first batch employees who joined the Company in 1986-88 period will retire which will drastically bring down the percentage of women employees in the company if steps are not taken for proactive recruitment especially of women at the Contract employee level. Same is the case in our Sales department also. The Women’s Cell had done an analysis of the current statistics and the per-centages are quite low compared to the industry average of 15% when compared to the state average of 65%. The other issue was with respect to promotion at the factory of women employees.

The Factories Act restriction on employment on women in the night shift is a constraint at the factory to employ women, but the same can be overcome by challenging the restriction at the High Court if required as already states like Tamilnadu and Gujarat have done so and got Orders for women to work in all three shifts.

TPL had achieved the highest ever production in the history of TPL in March - 2.5 M SBE.(A lakh of SBE each day).With this, the installed capac-ity of 30 M SBE was achieved. The GPR was also the highest at 99.13%.The plant variance forecast is also positive for the month as well as for the year. Csr support to thalassemia Patients

As part of its CSR efforts TPL had donated Rs 2 lakhs to BMST, Bangalore to support the Thalassemia Patients. The Thalassemia Patients suffer a lot and can survive on average up to 10-20 years only. But, if we provide them proper treatment; they can survive up to 50-70 years of age and lead almost normal life.

Jayasree mohan’s noble gesture-serving the Visually Challenged

Every day starting from 18 March 2015 a dedicated Jayasree Mohan, Sr.Executive (QC) from MSG joins a group of Volunteers to prepare and pro-duce almost two hours of audio recording for the visually challenged group of Kerala. Her effort provides an audio news cast comprised of newsworthy items of particular interest like reading short stories to many sight- challenged resi-dents throughout Kerala.She spends hours recording and producing audio books for release through the State Library Service.Jayasree, we acknowledge your great efforts and want to thank you for your hard work and dedication for this noble gesture!

world health day Celebrations

TERUMO PENPOL in association with Save A Rupee Spread A Smile

and Trivandrum Club celebrated World Health Day on 7th April.at

Trivandrum Club.

The theme for 2015 World Health Day was Food Safety. In tune with

the theme of World Health Day , the Executive Chef and Quality

Manager from Hotel Taj Vivantha were invited on 4th April for a

session on food safety at BBF to create awareness about cleanli-

ness and all the best practices followed for food safety. A session

on Healthy Life style was also arranged at TERUMO PENPOL Blood

Bag Factory on April 7 2015. We had invited Ms.Raheena Khader, a

famous dietician to deliver the session. Both the sessions were well

appreciated by the participants.

Mr. Kidillom Firoz the Radio Jockey of BIG FM Radio inaugurated the

function and Dr.C S B Nair Consultant (R&D) of TERUMO PENPOL

presided over the function. Ms.Aswathy Nair, Founder of the NGO

Jwala Foundation delivered the Special Address because this year’s

World Health Day Theme was Food Safety and she is the one who

provides food and shelter to the displaced and elderly.

Dr. Sathyabhama, BTO of SCTIMST Blood Bank took a session on

Apheresis Donation.

A Blood Donation Camp was organized and the Sree Chitra Blood

Bank collected blood from the Donors. Kiddillom Firoz who was the

Chief Guest and the members of Viajay Fans Association donated

blood during the camp.

Mani, Sr. Manager (Admin) and Harrison Fernandez , Sr.Executive

(Service) from TPL donated blood at the camp.

A Voluntary Blood Donation Online Special Quiz Contest and a VBD

Quiz Contest through BIG FM Radio were organized to promote

voluntary blood donation.

The BIG FM Radio had done intensive promotional campaign of the

event. Big FM had interviewed Manager (PR& CSR) and Archanasree,

(Asst Company Secretary) about TPL CSR activities.

We thank the following Associates from TPL for supporting the

event:1. T S Mani and Harrison Fernandez for donating blood

2. Archanasree for talking to BIG FM Radio about our CSR activities

3. N Santhosh, Samchandran C and Harrison for helping us to orga-

nize the event on 7th April

Trivandrum Club provided the Hall free of cost and Big FM Radio

provided gift worth Rs 3500 for the donors.

Our main objective was to promote the concept of Voluntary Blood

Donation among General Public and to collect a database of the

voluntary blood donors who participated in the Blood Donation Camp

for future use.
