From the Desk of Fr. McCabe

Make a good confession (good for 14 days); 2) receive the Eucharist; 3) pray for the Pope’s intentions: Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be; 4) complete the indulgent work such as praying a

family Rosary, reading Sacred Scripture for 30 minutes; and, the most difficult 5) be detached from all sin, even venial sin.

The partial completion of the above wins a partial indulgence.

This work for the poor souls in purgatory takes much faith, hope and charity, because we do not see immediate results. Rejoice in God’s mercy, and help out the material and spiritual poor when you can, and through Christ’s grace you will bear much heavenly fruit.

God bless, Fr. Thomas McCabe

At his Sermon on the Mount Jesus said: “For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not tax collectors

do the same?... So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.” Mt. 5:46-48.

To enter into the fullness of heaven we have to be made perfect, purified from all sin and attachment to sin, the sins of commission and omission. This is why we pray for our deceased who we hope died in the state of grace, that is, without any mortal sin on their soul, but who need to expiate their sins.

If a person stole your car and crashed it, but then repented and said, “Sorry”, we need to forgive him, but we should also have him pay back what he can for the damages; we offer mercy and justice.

Jesus died on the cross to take away our sins which is mercy, and he rose from the dead to win the grace never to sin again. Yet, we still sin, and so out of justice we must die for our sins and then be purified from all sin and attachment to sin. When we remain in Christ by sanctifying grace, we can bear much fruit, as today’s Gospel Jn. 15:1-8 reminds us. Jesus trims away the branches that do not bear fruit.

Jesus said to the servant who did not show mercy to the other servant, “‘Should you not have had pity on your fellow servant, as I had pity on you?’ Then in anger his master handed him over to the torturers until he should pay back the whole debt.” Mt. 18: 33-35.

Thank God Jesus gives us the opportunity to show mercy even after our brothers and sisters have died in the Lord. When Jesus gave the power of the Keys to Kingdom of God to St. Peter, the rock on which Jesus would build his Church, the Lord Jesus said to him, “Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Cf. Mt. 16:16-19

As the Vicar of Christ on earth the Pope has the power to write the remedial guidelines to help those in Purgatory, where the fiery love of God, over time, is purifying people of their sins. Yet, we can reduce that time by becoming holier ourselves.

An “indulgence” is the remission of temporal punishment due to sin of which has already been forgiven, assuredly and ordinarily in the Sacrament of Confession. Yet, there are extraordinary ways of being forgiven, e.g., when someone prays the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for someone on their death bed. A “plenary indulgence” (complete remission) can be applied to oneself or to a deceased person once a day, for 14 days, by doing the following:

Support the Catholic Home Missions Appeal today! Right now, over 40 percent of dioceses in the United States are considered home mission territory because they are unable to fund the

essential pastoral work needed in their communities. Your support funds programs, such as religious education,

seminary formation, and lay ministry training, to build vibrant faith communities right here in the United States.

Please be generous. More information can be found at www.usccb.org/home-missions.

ARE YOU HOMEBOUND, BUT WOULD LIKE TO

RECEIVE THE HOLY EUCHARIST?

Our parish has several parishioners that have been commissioned and trained to bring

Communion to parishioners who are unable to attend Mass, but wish to receive the Holy

Eucharist. Parishioners may receive communion at home during a short-term recovery (such as from surgery, during radiation/chemotherapy, after childbirth etc.) or on a long-term basis. Extraordinary Ministers typically visit once a

week. Please contact LeAnne Martin at 763- 497-4130 if you are interested in receiving Communion at your home.

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER WE ARE ALL CALLED

TO ACTION!

On Thursday, May 3rd in communities across American, millions will unite their

knees at Noon for the National Day of Prayer, to pray for our troops, our leaders and our nation!

Join us at St. Michael Catholic Church at 12:00 Noon for the Patriotic Rosary, led by Fr. Peter Richards.

A light lunch to go will be given to everyone as they leave church by the Serra Club and Catholic United Financial.

If you have any questions/concerns, or for more information, please contact

Marian Meyer at 763-497-2371. We hope you will join us over your lunch hour!!

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President

Harry S. Truman. Our Task Force is a privately funded organization whose purpose is to encourage participation on

the National Day of Prayer. For more info, please see http://www.nationaldayofprayer.org

LIGHTS, CAMERA, SMILE!

PARISH PICTORIAL DIRECTORY Our parish is creating a new pictorial family directory. Please be a part of our directory by scheduling a portrait session. This is one way to live the stewardship pillar of

hospitality. It is challenging in a large parish like ours to get to know our fellow parishioners, and the directory is a great

way to place (or connect) 'a face' with 'a name'.

Pictures will be taken in the lower level of our church starting on June 5th through June 30th. (Appointments available on

Tuesdays through Fridays from 1:30 to 8:30 pm and on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm). Appointments are already being scheduled. You may schedule your portrait

session using the link on our website at www.stmcatholicchurch.org. If you don’t have internet

access, there will be opportunities to schedule an appointment in the gathering space after our Sunday Masses

or you may call the parish office.

Please don’t bring pets in for your portrait session, as animals are not allowed in our building other than trained service

animals. Each individual or family participating will receive a complimentary directory and an 8x10 portrait. So, please join

us in making our parish directory complete. We hope all parishioners will participate to make our directory complete!

Thank you and God Bless you and your family.
