The ‐Times U of Iowa Math Department Newsletter April 29, 2009 ! Megan is a senior from Cedar Rapids, IA. She is majoring in Leisure Studies with an emphasis in therapeutic recreation. “It’s like physical therapy with games”, she adds. Megan is actually an old friend of Kacey’s. They were roommates last year and Megan was Kacey’s big sister in ΔΖ (the secret society we’ll reveal more about later in this dealio). Let’s dive straight to the juice now! Vegetarian? “Nope”, she says. Firearms? “Not on me.” Kryptonite? “It’s an unfortunate disadvantage for Superman. No one else has anything that takes away all their powers. It’s not fair.” (The Newsletter TM assumes we know her answer to Superman or Batman, so we didn’t ask. But the man in this half of the Amanda/aBa Newsletter TM crew wants to know why women always pick Batman over Superman!!? Superman is bulletproof!! Is Batman? Hello!) Megan is graduating this May so we asked what’s next. She’ll be doing an internship at Oaknoll this summer and then the coming fall is unknown. She was happy to tell us though that she is getting married. We asked if her biceps were stronger with the ring on it? She joked, “Just the left one. I love when people say look at that rock. It makes me happy.” Oh we almost forgot – like Kacey, Megan too has a second job. She’s a waitress at Old Chicago. She’ll let you sample their beers. There’s about 130 beers there with 31 on tap! Free gelato from Kacey, free beer from Megan – and the winner is? We promised to unveil the secret society ΔΖ to our readers. What is this secret society about? “It’s not that secret”, she says. Is it a cult? “No.” Investigative reporters unveil that ΔΖ is an organization of women who are neither secret nor in a cult. There you have it – THE REAL NEWS YOU SEEK! On a last note we asked about UFO’s. She responds, “I like to honk at cows. They don’t do anything. They just look at you. You should not honk at horses for the record. They generally run and freak out and it’s not fun.” Megan thanks for helping us math nerds in the mailroom. We will miss your face this summer and fall, but we’ll ask Kacey for updates. Kacey is a junior from Fort Atkinson (yeah, like Ken the math professor!) Wisconsin. She is double‐majoring in English and Journalism. Journalism! We thought that was cool of course, so switching places briecly we asked her what she'd ask us if she were the interviewer. She looked to Amanda and asked, "Why do you work with aBa?" So who is Kacey? She told us her goal after school is to get into book publishing. She's currently working here and has a 2 nd job at the Capana Coffee and Gelato by the ICPL ‐ come in at 7am on a Sunday and if you're nice she might give you a free gelato sample (limit a few tiny spoons). She's also in the sorority ΔΖ. Her music tastes are eclectic, and she likes to hang out with friends, etc. Let's move on to the juicy stuff. Superman or Batman? She gave this poignant response, "I think you have to pick Batman because in theory he doesn't have any weakness, whereas Superman doesn't work with Kryptonite." How do you feel about running over animals with your car? She answers, "I would probably say I'm against that as I'm a vegetarian." Speaking of cool animal facts, Kacey has 9 cats and 2 dogs at her WI home!! We didn't believe her so we asked what their names were. (Megan on the right concirmed to us later that this fact is true ‐ she's been to Kasey's home and witnessed cirsthand). The dog names are Astro & Yoshi. The cats are Snuggles, Pooky, Hercules, Athena, Odysseus, Lollipop, Tootsie‐ roll, Hi‐Tops, & Tuxedo. Give us a quote. "I can quote lots of things. I'm an English major." Kacey will be with us this summer too and next fall! Borrow her stapler & don't forget to say "Please". Kacey & Megan You've probably asked to use their stapler a million times and asked for more chalk or to send a fax. But do you know who these mailroom student workers are? Well we here at the Newsletter did some investigative reporting to unveil the awesomeness of these two ladies, Kacey and Megan. *WARNING: The views expressed in this newsletter do not necessarily reclect those of anyone.
