STEWARDSHIP / CORRESPONSABILIDAD

Gratitude in Action: Our Way of Life / Gratitud en Acción: Nuestra forma de Vida

The Holy Spirit is the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity

and the result of the love that exists between Father and

Son. Of the three Divine Persons, He is the One Who

gives life to the Church.1

Through the Liturgy, the Holy Spirit dispenses gifts to the

faithful. Powers or charisms, such as miracles, prophecy

and tongues, is one type given and used primarily for the

sanctification of others.1

The second type is primarily for the sanctification of the

person receiving the gift. These gifts are those with which

we are most familiar: wisdom, understanding, counsel,

fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. The

reception of these gifts helps us better discern and

embrace the will of God.1

The Holy Spirit, working through each of us, can do so

much if we allow Him to enter our being, take control of

our will, and direct our every thought, word and deed.

Come Holy Spirit! This is the second of three

presentations facilitator, Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS, will

make during our Parish Mission.

During this time, Tracy will remind us of the basics of

EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP: Reflections for the

Journey, which include being Mindful, Prayerful,

Grateful, Gracious, Committed and Accountable.

What happens when we give up our will and give in to the

will of God?

Tracy comments that God, in the person of the Holy Spirit,

came upon an early Church to provide tremendous

strength in the face of great trials. He then queries what it

might look like today if we, as Church, were to “truly”

give in to the Spirit?

During this second presentation, Tracy will focus on

Ignatian and Salesian spiritualities, approaching them in

everyday language. He will also explore the four primary

actions of everyday stewardship living: sharing, service,

sowing, and surrender.

“Breathe in me, O Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all

be holy. Act in me, O Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may

be holy. Draw my heart, O Holy Spirit, that I love but

what is holy. Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit, to defend all

that is holy. Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit, that I always

may be holy. Amen.” (Laudate: Prayer to the Holy Spirit)

Atento, Orar, Agradecido, Amable, Comprometido y

Responsable.

compartir, servir, sembrar y rendirse.

Pastor’s Message by Father Oscar Martin Picos

What is this apparition?

Jesus greets His disciples with great

cordiality. It is the greeting of every day, as

if nothing has happened. He shows them His

hands and His side as an effective form of

identification.

The wounds of Jesus are marked even in His resurrection,

a good sign for the converts whose wounds of the past are

still present but already converted into resurrection. The

wounds no longer hurt; they only show that the body that

suffered death is now perpetuated in eternal life.

Just seeing the Lord fortifies the faith of the apostles. The

Scripture tells us they are glad to see the Lord (John: 20).

Happiness overwhelms fear. Some people call themselves

Christians, but their lives are enveloped by fear rather

than the joy that comes from God. Instead of sharing the

joy of the Resurrection, they spread the fear that they

carry inside

themselves.

Thomas is not there.

What has happened

to Thomas? Does he

not share the fear of

the other apostles?

Is he perhaps the

only brave one who

is not afraid to go

out?

Thomas does not

value the testimony

of the other apostles.

He refuses to believe what he did not see. In our faith

community, some people are absent from our celebrations

and worship. Like Thomas, they cannot believe what they

do not see. They ask for proof when they have been

unable to open the door and be with the others.

After eight days, Jesus returns to appear on a Sunday. The

doors are still closed. This time, Thomas is there with the

other disciples. Jesus greets them and addresses the

doubter directly, responding word by word to the

distrustful apostle. Thomas is not an unconverted man. He

has sufficient faith to follow Christ. What he lacks is

enough faith to accept the testimony of others and believe

in the Lord’s Resurrection without seeing the palpable

evidence himself. Ashamed, he exclaims, "My Lord and

my God!" What has happened to Thomas is that he was

slow to believe. Now, his doubt has been transformed into

a confession of explicit and sincere faith.

(continued on page 5)

Tomás no estaba.

Tomás no

Remembering our Deceased Loved Ones

During May, we will transition remembrance of our

deceased loved ones from the Sanctuary Candle to Our

Blessed Mother. A candle will burn perpetually near Our

Mother’s statue, Our Lady of Grace, in the Sanctuary.

Those of you who have reserved a specific week during

the early part of May to remember a loved one will be

offered another time of your choice to reschedule your

remembrance. Please call the parish office at 673-2604

to make rescheduling arrangements. We appreciate your

patience while we undergo this transition.

Once the transition is complete, we will continue to pray

for the repose of the souls of our deceased loved ones at

each Mass seeking the intercession of Our Lady of Grace.

Please plan to continue to remember in this very special

way those you have loved, who have now passed away

and are no longer with us. May they now rest in the

peace of God’s Heavenly Kingdom.

Cinco will be on Saturday, May 4 from 10:00 am to

5:00 pm.

(continued from page 3)

At times in my life, the doors of my heart and soul have

been closed by distrust and fear, not of the Jews but of

God. The Lord does not want to leave me alone. He

enters without asking permission. He calms me with a

profound greeting of peace and speaks to me. I have no

escape. I try to excuse myself, not wanting to see that

the Lord is so close to me that I can clearly see His

wounds and His Resurrection. He greets me again....

I, a modern Thomas, am slow to believe.... I only ask

You, Lord, despite my slowness, to enter even though I

have my doors closed. You can do it and I want You to

do it. My Lord and my God! Remind me of Your

presence and Your Resurrection even though the doors

of my inner self are closed.

The story of Thomas is that of many believers. We want

to see to believe, when in reality we must believe to see.

ahora a mí. No tengo escapatoria.

vida aunque yo tenga mis puertas cerradas, Tú puedes
