Members in the News ESSA BANK & TRUST ANNOUNCES BRANCH EXPANSION INTO LEHIGH VALLEY

ESSA Bank & Trust has announced the expansion of its branch footprint into the Lehigh Valley. Construc-tion of two new in-store branches is currently underway inside Weis Markets in Cedar Crest Plaza in South Whitehall Township, Lehigh County; and on Crawford Drive in Bethlehem Township in Northampton County. Construction of a third branch inside Weis Markets on Route 873 in Schnecksville will begin shortly. These in-store branches will help ESSA reach out to new custom-ers in the Lehigh Valley and provide additional outlets of service to existing customers. In addition, ESSA will offer added convenience with seven-day banking and create new employment opportunities with each new location. Along with ESSA’s new Mountainhome facility that opens later this month, ESSA will operate 17 full-service branches throughout Monroe County, in the Slate Belt area of Northampton County, and in the Lehigh Valley.

“ESSA has created a business model based on our five Guid-ing Principles that is de-signed to work in any econ-omy,” said Gary S. Olson, President & CEO. We strive to remain independent and to be around for the long term. Capital and credit quality remain important elements in ESSA’s financial picture. The company is in excellent condition in both areas, and we have money to lend.”

ESSA Bank & Trust offers a wide variety of products and services for both consum-ers and businesses. Business services include commer-cial loans and lines of credit, checking account op-tions, ACH originations, merchant processing services, and money market accounts.

ESSA also operates ESSA Investment Services where innovative investment and insurance solutions are de-livered by qualified investment executives.

ESSA Bank & Trust is a wholly owned subsidiary of ESSA Bancorp, Inc. which has total assets of over $1 billion and is the leading service-oriented financial in-stitution headquartered in the greater Pocono, Pennsyl-vania region. Corporate headquarters are located in downtown Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. With the open-ing of the Mountainhome Office and the three Lehigh Valley branches, ESSA Bank & Trust will have 17 com-munity offices throughout the Pocono, Pennsylvania area and the Lehigh Valley.

The United Way of Monroe County’s Board of Direc-tors has appointed Mathilda Sheptak as the nonprofit’s new executive director.

Sheptak most recently was the chief operating officer and vice president of the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau in Stroudsburg. She brings expertise in market analy-sis, long range planning, new product/program de-velopment, brand market-ing, project management and team building to her new position.

A former campaign chair for United Way of Monroe

County, Sheptak also previously served as the agency’s board president. She received many honors during her service as a volunteer, officer, and campaign leader with the organization.

Sheptak replaces former executive director Timothy Kelly, who relocated in January to upstate New York to become executive director of the United Way of Cayuga County.

According to Board President John Casella, Sheptak’s im-pressive experience, background, leadership roles, and relationships in the local community made her the clear choice for the position.

Besides her involvement with United Way, Sheptak has been a board trustee of the Pocono Environmental Educa-tion Center, board of director member for Jacob Stroud, and former board member and president of the Pocono Family YMCA. Her additional community service includes the Mattioli Main Street Project, Pocono Mountains Cham-ber Environmental Committee, Monroe County Economic Advisory Committee, Monroe County Litter Control, ESU Department of Recreation and Leisure Service Advisory Board, Brodhead Watershed Association Board, and Burn Prevention Foundation Board.

A long-term resident of Monroe County, Sheptak lives in Stroudsburg with her husband Steve. Her distinctions include receiving the Athena Award from the Greater Pocono Chamber of Commerce and the prestigious Clifford R. Gillam United Way Award for volunteerism.

As executive director of the United Way of Monroe County, Sheptak will oversee a staff of three full-time and two part-time employees. Besides the board of directors, she will work with countless volunteers and interact with vari-ous committees.

Shiro is now Desaki

Swiftwater, April 1,2010 – Vincent and Charlie Tra-passo, owners of Shiro Restaurant on Route 611 in Swiftwater, say their establishment will now be called Desaki.

“We have chosen to change the name to Desaki because we learned Shiro is already used by a restaurant in met-ropolitan New York,” Vincent Trapasso said, “and al-though we received permission to continue to use the name for this location, there were caveats that would probably limit our future growth. Anyone who knows me, knows that I’m too entrepreneurial to think in those terms!”

In fact, under the new name, Desaki, the Trapassos will be renovating to accommodate additional Hibachi tables as well as adding a second story dining balcony which will overlook the restaurant and nightclub.

“We are so excited about the growth of tourism in the Pocono region”, Trapasso said, “and we want to make room for our local customers as well guests who are ex-periencing this area for the first time”.

“We selected Desaki,” he continued, “because it means ‘destination’ in Japanese, and that’s exactly how our loyal customers commonly refer to us – as a destination.”

Trapasso emphasized that customers can expect the same quality and service that have led to being named ‘Best Japanese Restaurant’ by Pocono Mountains Res-taurant Week 2009, ‘Best Dance Club’ by Poconos-best.com’ and ‘Best New Business’ at the 2009 Bizzy Awards. Desaki will continue to be a dynamic experi-ence that offers fun family dining and sophisticated nightlife, while remaining a company that is committed to being an active member of the community.

The Trapasso’s company was also recently honored by the United Way of Monroe County with its “Rising Star” award for the “Night of Good Fortune” held at the res-taurant this past October, from which 100% of the pro-ceeds were donated to the United Way. In addition, De-saki will be hosting its third Martinis & Manicures event on April 8th which has benefited both Women’s Resources of Monroe County and the Suzanne Zale Buck Ovarian Cancer Awareness Fund.

“We very much appreciate the support that we have received from our customers and the community,” Trapasso said. “We look forward to providing the same exceptional experience at Desaki that they have come to enjoy time and time again.”

Desaki’s Hours of operation are Tuesday-Thursday 4pm-10pm, Friday & Saturday 4pm-2am & Sunday Noon-10pm 570-839-2500 www.desakirestuarant.com
