FAITH MOMENT REFLECTION

MASS INTENTIONS FOR 2020 To schedule a Mass, please contact the Parish Office. A Mass is a sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, brought forward in time to the present. At Mass you could say that a “time warp” is opened in which the sacrifice of Jesus is mystically brought forward to be present to us.

When we are present at a celebration of the Eucharist, we are not merely turning our attention to the past. We are actually bringing forward into the present the most pivotal moment of human history. Masses can be offered for a number of intentions: for the deceased, to invoke the Lord’s special graces for a friend or loved one, for a successful surgery and recovery, or for an anniversary. Please make sure to stop by or call the Rectory Office to schedule a Mass.

SCHEDULED MASS INTENTIONS

If we did not call you to make other arrange-

ments, please understand that your scheduled

Mass intentions will be celebrated every day

by Fr. Peter alone. All Mass intentions will be

honored.

RECTORY HOURS

The Parish Office is closed until further notice.

The early days of the first Christian community were not easy by any measurement. Jesus had been executed, and his disci-ples had to be discreet so as not to meet a similar fate. Jesus was now risen, but the truth of his resurrection was not accept-ed by all. However, the depiction of that early community in Acts 2:42-47 would lead someone to believe it was the oppo-site situation. We are told of community life where people lean on each other and share great joy. They ate and prayed together, and many wonders and signs were occurring to lift the community and bear witness to the power of Jesus Christ. They were disciples living out their faith, and it was their strong sense of stewardship that made all this possible in the face of threatening Roman and Jewish powers. Today, we find the Church in a new turmoil. Increasing secularism, abuse scandals, and a lack of true fidelity place us once again in a time that is not easy. A friend of mine likes to say that any challenge of sin we encounter in the Church has its origin in a lack or misunderstanding of the stewardship way of life. We create our burdens by not using our gifts wisely and by turning inward selfishly. Could we use the story in Acts of the early Church to help us today? If we begin with the decision to give of ourselves completely to God and His people, will we be-come agents of change? There is only one way to find out.

PRAYER DURING PANDEMIC

Jesus Christ, you traveled through towns and villages

“curing every disease and illness.” At your command, the

sick were made well. Come to our aid now, in the midst of

the global spread of the coronavirus, that we may experi-

ence your healing love. Heal those who are sick with the

virus. May they regain their strength and health through

quality medical care. Heal us from our fear, which pre-

vents nations from working together and neighbors from

helping one another. Jesus Christ, healer of all, stay by

our side in this time of uncertainty and sorrow. Be with

those who have died from the virus. May they be at rest

with you in your eternal peace. Be with the families of

those who are sick or have died. As they worry and

grieve, defend them from illness and despair. May they

know your peace. Be with the doctors, nurses, researchers

and all medical professionals who seek to heal and help

those affected and who put themselves at risk in the pro-

cess. May they know your protection and peace. Be with

the leaders of all nations. Give them the foresight to act

with charity and true concern for the well-being of the

people they are meant to serve. Give them the wisdom to

invest in long-term solutions that will help prepare for or

prevent future outbreaks. May they know your peace, as

they work together to achieve it on earth. Whether we are

home or abroad, surrounded by many people suffering

from this illness or only a few, Jesus Christ, stay with us

as we endure and mourn, persist and prepare. In place of

our anxiety, give us your peace. Jesus Christ, heal us.
