CONFESSION OF FAITH…………………………… SHORTER CATECHISM 16

PASTOR: Did mankind fall in Adam’s first transgression?

WORSHIPERS: The covenant being made with Adam, not only for himself, but for his posterity; all mankind, descending from him by ordinary generation, sinned in him, and fell with him, in his first transgression.

CONFESSION OF ORIGINAL SIN

“Most merciful God, we confess we are by original nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed. By what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart. We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of your son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways to the glory of your holy name. Amen.”

Songs and Words for Worship

Our Great Savior

Yet Not I But Through Christ in Me

Blessed Redeemer

Take My Life and Let it Be

1. What gift of grace is Jesus, My Redeemer

There is no more for heaven now to give. He is my joy, my righteousness, and freedom My steadfast love, my deep and boundless peace To this I hold: my hope is only Jesus For my life is wholly bound to his Oh how strange and divine, I can sing: all is mine! Yet not I but through Christ in me 2. The night is dark, but I am not forsaken For by my side the Savior, he will stay I labor on in weakness and rejoicing For in my need his power is displayed. To this I hold: my Shepherd will defend me Through the deepest valley he will lead Oh the night has been won and I shall overcome! Yet not I but through Christ in me.

3. No fate I dread, I know I am forgiven The future sure, the price, it has been paid For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon And he was raised to overthrow the grave To this I hold: my sin has been defeated Jesus now and ever is my plea Oh the chains are released, I can sing: I am free! Yet not I but through Christ in me

1. Jesus! What a friend for sinners

Jesus! Lover of my soul; Friends may fail me, foes assail me, He, my Savior, makes me whole.

2. Jesus! What a Strength in weakness! Let me hide myself in Him; Tempted, tried, and sometimes failing, He, my Strength, my vict’ry wins.*

*Chorus

Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Hallelujah! What a friend!

Saving, helping, keeping, loving,

He is with me to the end.

1. Up Calvary’s mountain one dreadful morn

Walked Christ my Savior weary and worn. Facing for dinners death on a cross That He might save them endless and loss.

*Chorus

Blessed Redeemer precious Redeemer Seems now I see Him on Calvary’s tree. Wounded and bleeding for sinners pleading Blind and unheeding dying for me.

2.Father forgive them my Savior prayed E’en while His life-blood flowed fast away. Praying for sinners while in such woe No one but Jesus ever loved so.

Chorus x2

3. O how I love Him Savior and Friend

How can my praises ever find end Thru years unnumbered on heavens shore My tongue shall praise Him forevermore.

Chorus

3. Jesus! What a Help in sorrow! While the billows o’er me roll; Even when my heart is breaking, He, my Comfort, helps my soul.*

1. Take my life and let it be

Consecrated, Lord, to Thee; Take my moments and my days— Let them flow in ceaseless praise Let them flow in ceaseless praise

2. Take my hands and let them move

At the impulse of Thy love; Take my feet and let them be Swift and beautiful for Thee Swift and beautiful for Thee

3. Take my voice and let me sing

Always, only, for my King; Take my lips and let them be Filled with messages from Thee, Filled with messages from Thee

4. Take my will and make it Thine

It shall be no longer mine; Take my heart—it is Thine own It shall be Thy royal throne It shall be Thy royal throne 5. Take my love—my Lord, I pour

At Thy feet its treasure store; Take myself—and I will be Ever, only, all for Thee Ever, only, all for Thee

4. Jesus! What a Guide and Keeper!

While the tempest still is high; Storms about me, night o’er takes me,

He my Pilot, hears my cry.*

5. Jesus! I do now adore Him, More than all in Him I find; He has granted me forgiveness, I am His, and He is mine.*

4. With every breath I long to follow Jesus

For he has said that he will bring me home And day by day I know he will renew me Until I stand with joy before the throne To this I hold: my hope is only Jesus All the glory evermore to him When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat:

Yet not I but through Christ is me (repeat italics)

Welcome

Whether regular or recently new, welcome to this time of worship! May you be able to meet God today, in all his holiness and all His grace.

As you worship today….

1) Remember the whole believing family. This is still a service of corporate worship. Although you cannot physically see your church family today, know that they are worshiping with you.

2) Communicate directly with God. Worship is also an individual act. It is a dialogue: both hearing from God and communicating to him in song and prayer. Because it is a two-fold work, don’t let the pastor do all the work of worship. You yourself should engage with God. “God, what will you teach me today?”

3) Have a Bible handy if you have one. We use the English Standard Version for our services, but any version will do.

(If you’d like a Bible, email “Bible please” to Marci, she’ll send you one in the mail).

4) Read aloud your portions when it applies. (Pastor will prompt you).

This Week

Today – Worship (10:45am) – Pastor Jeff resumes our “Origin Story,” focusing on something incredibly practical: Work (Gen 2:15).

Tuesday and Thursday – Youth are holding small group Bible studies.

Wednesday (6:30pm) – Prayer. Actively work out your faith in God through corporate prayer – we pray for relief and revival during the coronavirus.

Sunday School (9:30am) – John Gallo continues his study of Systematic Theology & You. Kara continues her Kids Sunday school class.

Next Sunday – Worship (10:45am) – We continue to worship God. Next week, Pastor Jeff teaches about the Tale of the Trees (Genesis 2:9 and 16-17). What do these original trees teach?
