Who would use this application?

The application is aimed at anyone that is interested in upgrading their

current computer or in the market for a completely new PC

What is the point of this application?

Some PCs are becoming old and outdated and people may not have the

funds to buy a new, fully upgraded computer.

Why use this application?

To make upgrading a PC cheaper and easier with the ability to add new

parts based on your current model instead of buying a brand new computer

with parts that may not be necessary.

Where could you use this application?

Wherever the PC you want to upgrade is located. This could be at home to

be used as a personal or family computer, or in a place of work where a

computer with certain specifications are needed.

When would you use this application?

This app can be used whenever you feel that you computer needs and

upgrade, or when you feel a new computer is needed.

Ever had the problem where your personal computer is getting

slower and more outdated, and don’t know what to do without

throwing it out.

The PC Upgrade App gives every user the ability to see every

compatible component with their personal computer and choose

from a list to order.

If getting a new computer is the idea however, we can offer a

range of pre-built models for the user with the further opportunity

to to buy access hardware & peripherals for that.

A new computer is not always the answer, maybe its just in need

of an upgrade from the PC Upgrade App.

The users that we asked we asked to test the application were all happy with how the

app worked and the purpose of the application. We mainly asked IT students as they

would be able to give us the best feedback but we also asked some other students who

don’t know that much about PCs to see how non familiar users felt about the app.

Both types of users found the application easy to navigate however the IT students

tended to use the standard search function more than the other users as they knew what

they were looking for.

The non familiar users found the smart search function useful as it helped them to find

parts for their current PC when they werent too sure what to look for.

User Profiles

As of February 2014, there are no applications that can offer a

similar service as we do.

There are many applications where completed computers can be

purchased, but none allow users to buy hardware components

based on compatibility with your current computer.

Our application is completely unique with the features it has to

offer.

The way that people can find our application is through advertising

online & hopefully from there word of mouth.

Advertising on websites/creating websites related to searches

base on upgrading a computer can link to our application.

Also on blogs/forums pages that people enquire about upgrading

PCs can also help. On pages like Reddit, people ask about

custom PCs, from here we can suggest to download our app.

From user feedback we found that they wanted some way of separating the parts that they wanted from the parts that they didn't want, in this case, AMD graphics cards from nVidia graphics cards.

With this in mind, we implemented a sorting/filtering feature that can allow the user to view items according to the search criteria, filtering out the unwanted items.

Data

The data used in our application requires pc components from a variety of suppliers

including a model name, model description, price and a general rating of the product.

Our application relies heavily on this data as without it we would have a non-functional

application.

This data would have to be required from everywhere possible, needing permission from

every provider to use their products. We would not be able to get such a wide range of

products to use in our application but it can be possible.

Making our app free to download would attract a wider audience and allow more people

to download it. The way that we intend on making money is through a commision on

every product sold.

We have looked at many affiliates and the better one that we have found is the Amazon

Affiliate Program. With this we found that the standard advertising rate on the IT site for

electronics is 5.0% and all other products is 10.0%.

Being affiliated with Amazon would mean that we would have access to a wider range of

products for our app, as well as them acting as a ‘middleman’, meaning that we would

personally hold no products, and all things bought from the app would be shipped

directly from Amazon warehouses.

Marketing Strategy

Our main marketing strategy would be to advertise the application on relevant computer

themed websites as this would attract more of our target audience. Other webpages that

we could advertise on could be blog pages such as Reddit with the app, this way we

reach the audience as well as having the ability to contact people who have used it in

order to get feedback.

Making this application free to download means that more people will download it, and

the way that we would make money from our application is through a small commision

on every purchase.

In creating this application, we had the opportunity to show it to 3 experts in the app

industry. These experts came from Igniso & helped greatly with marketing strategies and

coding within the application.

An idea that was brought up with these experts was the ability to scan an item/piece of

hardware found in-store on the application and show that item and everywhere it can be

purchased, allowing the customer to get a cheaper price from a different supplier. This

feature is not a definite feature that will be implemented however it is a good idea that

we would put in if possible.
