MARGAOThe officials from Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) on Saturday  seized around 340 kg of mava and curd, all worth Rs 55,000, that were in adul-terated  condition and transported through trains without proper documen-tation.   

The consignment had come from Miraj to Margao station by trains. The mava and curd were

to be used for preparation of various types of sweets for the upcoming Ganesh festival.

“We received informa-tion that adulterated mava and curd had come through trains.  We found eight red coloured boxes and cans of mava and curd in adul-terated condition. Action will be taken against the offenders,” said food safety officer Rajiv Korde, while speaking to ‘The Navhind Times’ after the raid.    

Korde said that the

FDA had written to railway officials to avoid accepting meat and mava  consignments in unhealthy and unhygienic conditions.   

“We had written to the Konkan railway and south central railways in the past not to accept consign-ments of meat and mava,” he said.

The raid was conducted in the presence of police inspector of Margao rail-way police  Santosh  De-sai and other police of-

ficials. Interestingly, the party, which was to receive the consignments,  did not turn up.

When contacted senior public relations officer Ba-ban Ghatge, he said there has to be  thorough check-ing at the  railway stations where such consignments are loaded and not at the delivery points.  

“We had also written to the authorities (south cen-tral and central  railways) about it in the past,” he in-formed.

PANAJI PWD contract workers have threatened to stop water supply to the entire state if their wages were not released before Ganesh Chaturthi, stated the un-ion leader at a general body meeting.

Addressing the media, Ajeetsingh Rane, Swati Kerkar along with PWD contract labourers threat-ened to protest by way of stopping water supply if their wages were not re-leased before the upcom-ing festival.

The leaders said that wages of some work-ers have been blocked for nearly 4 to 9 months de-spite giving representa-tions to the PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar in July and again in August.

They demanded a hike in their wages in view of the rising price index and maintained that the con-tract workers should get at least Rs 10,000 per month. They also demanded re-

lease of arrears.They also said that the

minister should not take the workers for granted. There are nearly 700 contract PWD workers affiliated to Goa Trade Union Confederation.

They informed that they had approached the government only after forming the union and appealed to the minister and the Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar to intervene and resolve their problems.

Shiv Sena Goa Rajya Pramukh Ajeetsingh Rane threatened to bring at least 15000 people from PWD as well as power department in the city under his leadership and ‘block’ the capital city and demanded that all benefits should be extended to the workers during the Chaturthi.

He said if the workers are happy then everybody is happy adding the government should not resort to dilly-dallying approach on the demand of the workers.

BENAULIMDays after villagers of Benaulim raised con-cern over poor condition of poles, the electricity department has started work related to old dam-aged poles and overhead lines. The restoration work is expected to be completed before the en-suing Ganesh Chaturthi festival.

It may be recalled that on August 25 nearly 100 villagers from ward 3 had called on electric-ity department officials raising concern over the safety of the people due to damaged poles, non-functioning of street-lights and poor supply of electricity.

Highly-placed sources in the electricity department, requesting anonymity, informed that while tree cutting work has already commenced the work of replacing the damaged poles will start shortly. He said that some poles have already been brought to the site while the remaining poles will be provided in the next couple of days.

He said that the depart-ment is facing shortage of conductors, however, has placed a request be-fore the division office to provide conductors add-ing that the department had already proposed bunch conductors.

Replying to a query on power supply, the of-ficial said that this year the power supply has been better as compared to last year except at the start of monsoon where there were interruptions in supply.

PANAJIA 10-year roadmap for co-operative sector is being formulated by the experts in the co-operative field.

The roadmap will be re-leased during the first of its kind one-day Sahakar Sammelan scheduled to be held on December 6, informed Minister for In-dustries and Social Welfare Mahadev Naik.

Naik said that already the core committee of Sa-hakar Sammelan has been constituted and is headed by Prabhakar Vernekar.

“There are around 3,095 co-operative societies in the state and as part of the plan meetings will be held at ta-luka level to know the prob-lems faced in the coopera-tive sector and what needs to be done in the future”, informed Naik, while ad-dressing media at the Sec-

retariat, Porvorim on Friday.He informed that Union

Agriculture Minister Rad-hamohan Singh has con-sented to be present for the Sahakar Sammelan and so also Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Union Minister of State for Health and AYUSH Shripad Naik and Chief Minister Laxmi-kant Parsekar.

“On the occasion a num-ber of persons who have been associated and con-tributed to the cooperative sector will be felicitated,” informed Naik.

President of the Sahakar Sammelan organising com-mittee Prabhakar Vernekar said that various issues re-lating to the cooperative sector will be discussed while deciding the 10-year roadmap. He also said that concept of co-operative farming and being self suf-ficient in milk production will be also discussed.
