LETTERS TO THE EDITORPost Office not issuing ATM cardsSir, I opened a savings bank account in K.K.

Nagar Post Office. But even after 3 months, Ihave still not received my ATM card.

According to a staff member, the branch hasnot received ATM cards from the Head Office forthe past 6 months as the Postal Department is inthe process of introducing online transactions.

I wonder how that will replace ATM card forcash withdrawal. I have also written about thisto ‘The Senior Superintendent of Post Offices’(Chennai City South Division, Chennai 17), buthave not received any reply.

No piped water in Muthalamman Koil Street for 8 monthsSir, I am a resident of Ganesh Flats, Muthalamman Koil Street, West Mambalam. The street has

not been receiving piped water supply for more than 8 months. My grievance was published inMambalam Times in September, but till date no action has been taken by Metrowater officials torestore piped water supply. The residents are forced to spend exorbitant amounts to buy waterthrough tankers in spite of paying Metrowater taxes regularly. Off-late, the Metrowater officialsare using the excuse of water shortage for non supply when we pursue the complain, but the realityis that we have not been receiving for over 8 months. Recently when there was a similar problemin Postal Colony, Metrowater replaced the 70-year-old pipeline to solve the problem. I once againappeal to the officials concerned to inspect the long standing problem and resume piped watersupply in Muthalamman Koil Street. N. Vijayaraghavan, West Mambalam.

Flyover can ease congestion in 1stAvenue, Ashok Nagar

Sir, There is heavy traffic congestion in 1stAvenue, Ashok Nagar throughout the day.Motorists and pedestrians coming on 8th, 9th and10th Avenue find it tough to cross the road toreach Metro station or ESIC Hospital.

Even the traffic policemen stationed duringpeak hours at these junctions struggle to regulatethe traffic. The congestion is only going to getworse with TNHB announcing the constructionof the 22-storey building to replace the oldshopping complex on 1st Avenue.

Shortage of 6000-liter tankers with MetrowaterSir, Metrowater has only around 50 numbers 6000-liter tankers at its disposal. It has higher

number of 9000-liter tankers, even though the demand is more for 6000-liter tankers.It is leading to heavy demand and delay in supply. The sump capacity in our 30-year-old apartment

Motorists appeal for 2-waytraffic on roads connecting to

It is more than eight months since the AG-DMS, Teynampetand Nandanam metro rail stations were opened, but motoristsare still forced to take diversions between Nandanam andGemini flyover along Anna Salai.

South Boag Road, North Boag Road, Narasimhan Road anda portion of G.N. Chetty Road, Venkatanarayana Road andVijayaraghava Road have been one-way since 2012 whenconstruction for the tunnels and the three underground sta-tions on Anna Salai began.

According to officials of Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL),they have already given the go-ahead to traffic police inDecember to restore 2-way traffic on these roads.

A. Arun (Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic) toldMambalam Times that they have sought some clarificationsfrom CMRL, and the 2-way traffic will be restored on theseroads shortly.

Youth arrested for snatchingphone from woman

West Mambalam) was arrested by Pondy Bazaar police onJan. 27 for snatching an expensive mobile phone from C.Jayalakshmi (a resident of Choolaimedu) in KodambakkamHigh Road a day earlier.

The police got the registration number of the motorcyclefrom the footage of a CCTV camera installed outside a shopnear the scene of the crime.

According to the police, during a vehicle check near PeriyarSalai, police identified the bike and tried to stop the rider. Butthe man dodged the officers and fled.

Sub-inspector Sathish Kumar and head constable Rajendrannabbed the man after a chase.

He has been remanded in judicial custody.

Metro Rail launches feederservice to IT hubs

By Our Staff ReporterChennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has tied up with Ford’s

Corporate Shuttle Feeder Services to launch ‘Office Ride’ - lastmile connectivity to passengers, particularly in the IT sector.

The service was launched in Alandur Metro Station on Jan.30.

According to a CMRL official, the service is similar to sharetaxis or vans and link metro stations with major IT hubs ataffordable rates.

A total of five wi-fi enabled vehicles each with seatingcapacity of about 12 was launched. As of now, nine trips eachfrom 8am to 12pm and from 5pm to 9pm have been planned.

Presently, there is feeder service from Alandur metro stationto Elcot and Sipcot. Later, it will be extended to other stationssuch as Anna Nagar East, Anna Nagar Tower, Koyambedu,Ashok Nagar and AG-DMS.

Office Ride also has a mobile app which works like thoseoperated by other cab aggregators. Commuters will have toenter their pickup and drop location upon downloading the app.

The service functions on crowd-sourced route suggestions toimprove commutes.

Tree blocking apartment axed,complaint filed

By Our Staff ReporterChennai Corporation has filed a complaint in K.K. Nagar police

station after an avenue tree was axed without permission onR.K. Shanmugham Salai, K.K. Nagar, falling under ward 131 ofthe Kodambakkam zone.

The complaint was first filed by a local civil activist withChennai Corporation through the Namma Chennai app.

According to a Corporation official, when they made enquiries,they found out that the tree was chopped by a builder at thebehest of the residents of a new apartment on the road, as thetree was blocking the view.

The complaint was forwarded from the parks department tothe zonal assistant engineer, who after consultation with thepark overseer, filed a complaint with the KK Nagar police.

In his complaint, he has stated that unknown persons hadchopped the branches of the tree without permission.
