Condition Assessment

Condition Assessment provides common work processesand methodologies to determine and document the cur-rent condition of your assets, which complements the corefunctionality and features of Enterprise AssetManagement Systems, Predictive Systems and ProcessHistorians.

Calibration Management

Calibration Management provides an integrated solutionfor the management of process instrumentation and its per-formance. The primary functions of the solution addressthe need for loop and tag management, calibration man-agement and optimization, and reliability analysis of instrumentation.

A key aspect of managing instrumentation condition ismonitoring the calibration results of instruments, andMeridium provides the comprehensive system to manage

large-scale calibration management programs. In additionto managing the overall calibration plan and schedule,Meridium documents the calibration findings, percent of error and pass / fail results. To automate field data collec-tion, Meridium provides seamless integration with instru-ment calibration devices manufactured by Fluke. MeridiumCalibration Management also provides full support forISA-TR20 Instrument specification forms.

Thickness Monitoring

A primary approach to determining the condition of sta-tionary equipment (piping, vessels, exchangers, tanks, boil-ers, etc.) is monitoring the wall thickness of the metal.

Meridium provides industry standard API calculations andmeasurement management capabilities to determine andmonitor stationary equipment condition. Specific calcula-tions include minimum wall thickness, current and histori-cal corrosion rate, next inspection date, and retirementdate. Meridium provides seamless integration with manyUT (ultrasonic thickness) field testing devices manufac-tured by Panametrics and Krautkramer Branson.Capabilities include the ability to upload and downloadasset datapoint and measurement information.

Inspection Management

For many of the industries that Meridium serves, the visualsurveillance and inspection of assets is a critical element toassessing the condition of the asset. In many industries, visual inspection programs are mandated by regulatoryagencies that can levy significant fines for non-compliance.

Meridium provides functionality to manage large-scaleinspection programs, providing a means of documentingthe frequencies and as-found conditions as well as trackingrecommendations that may result from an inspection.

Operator Rounds

While analysts and engineers may be responsible for defin-ing the overall strategy for equipment, operators often havea better day-to-day understanding of physical equipmentfunctions and conditions. Due to their daily proximity to

manufacturing equipment, operators are presented withthe best opportunity to collect the data needed to assessthe current condition of equipment. An optimal equip-ment strategy can be more effective when operators moni-tor the physical equipment to detect the existence of thesymptoms that indicate imminent failure.

Operator Rounds puts Meridium APM in the hands of equipment operators via a handheld application thatallows execution of asset strategies in the field by monitor-ing equipment performance and capturing condition dataelectronically. Meridium Operator Rounds integratesequipment strategies into day-to-day operations and sur-veillance programs and facilitates the efficient assessment

and quantification of asset performance.

Performance Management

Meridium's Performance Management suite provides acomplete management system to assess and quantify theperformance of your assets. By leveraging data collectedthrough maintenance execution (work orders) and condi-tion assessment and inspections (monitoring, inspection, predictive data, process historians), Meridium analyticalengines can provide new insight into how assets are per-forming relative to their overall strategies.

Metrics and ScorecardsMeridium provides a robust framework to apply balancedscorecard principles to asset performance management.Strategies, objectives and key performance indicators canbe defined to support the measurement of key asset per-formance management indices such as availability, reliabili-ty, lost production, regulatory compliance and asset/strategycost management. Key performance indicators can be dis-played in a dashboard or scorecard layout and provideautomatic alerting when thresholds are exceeded so correc-tive action can be taken.

Reliability Analytics

Analysis of design, maintenance and operational data is acornerstone of understanding the historical and future per-formance of an asset. Meridium’s reliability analysis capa-bilities include statistical tools to measure asset perform-ance, such as reliability distribution, reliability growth andunreliability cost analysis. Meridium’s Production Analysissolution provides an easy method of plotting productionoutput data for the purpose of evaluating process reliabilityand calculating costs related to equipment failures, process

slowdowns, and production shutdowns. The results of aproduction analysis can help you pinpoint the source of sig-nificant production losses so that improvement strategiescan be developed accordingly.

Root Cause AnalysisPROACT® for Meridium is a key work process to auditand analyze undesirable events that occur so that faults canbe documented and strategies can be established to preventthe reoccurrence of the event. The PROACT work processsteps an analyst through the process of documenting thefailure event, documenting failure modes, determining rootcauses and tracking recommendations. The deployment of Root Cause Analysis across an enterprise provides a knowl-edge base of repetitive and critical failures as well as a cor-rective action database that can define asset strategy tohelp keep undesirable events from occurring in the future.

Generation Management

Meridium’s Generation Management (GM) module inte-grates information from maintenance, operational, plan-ning and financial disciplines to support generation reliabil-ity analysis and drive continuous improvement strategies. At the core of GM is a reporting process that has existedsince 1982. GM provides for the standardized collectionof monthly unit performance and event (incident) datathat, in the United States, is reported to the NorthAmerican Electric Reliability Council (NERC) for mostgenerators. This data becomes part of a NERC-maintaineddatabase referred to as GADS (Generating AvailabilityData System). GADS was originally conceived as a way toimprove electric power reliability by aggregating perform-

ance and event data from a large population of equipment.Problems related to specific designs, for example, couldthen be analyzed across the fleet, allowing someone whoonly had one unit with that particular design to be fore-warned of a potential problem.

Strategy Development

Many methodologies and approaches exist for the develop-ment of asset strategies and continuous improvement pro-grams. Meridium provides many popular strategy develop-ment approaches which are integrated through a commonrecommendation management model. This ensures thatrecommendations from all asset strategies can be managedas a whole and driven to completion.

RCM and FMEA

Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and FailuresModes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) methodologies evalu-ate the function of the asset, the failure modes and theconsequence of asset failure. This approach allows for thedefinition of comprehensive maintenance, operational, andinventory strategies that balance costs and risks with over-all production goals. By integrating the RCM and FMEAfunctions with the entire Performance Management suite,Meridium further enables its clients with strategy develop-

ment capabilities that constantly evaluate the asset's per-formance using data collected through standard processeswithin Enterprise Assest Management (EAM) andCondition/Process monitoring systems. When strategyassumptions or performance parameters are deviated from,

responsible parties can then be notified if the maintenanceor operational strategy needs to change. Meridium RCM fol-lows the SAE JA1011 specification for RCM implementa-tion and also provides a streamlined FMEA approach for lesscritical items.

Risk Based Inspection (RBI)

Risk Based Inspection is a methodology that assesses theprobability of failure against consequence to optimizeinspection activities based upon overall risk. Meridium pro-vides a complete risk based inspection work process, whichallows for the documentation of corrosion circuits andpotential damage mechanisms, the calculation of overall riskby the quantitative evaluation of damage mechanisms, and

implementation and execution of the inspection strategy. The Meridium RBI solution provides an integrated criticali-ty calculator, but also has standard interfaces to other popu-lar calculators used in industry. Meridium's RBI module pro-vides the key work processes to not only calculate risk butalso to drive the overall RBI program and ensure thatinspection strategies are evaluated as equipment conditionchanges, ensuring an evergreen program.

Strategy Management

Once a strategy has been defined through the utilization of strategy development methodologies such as RCM, FMEAand RBI, analytical models can then be applied to under-

stand the risk and financial impact of strategy implementa-tion. The Strategy Management suite of Meridium providesnew capabilities to evaluate and quantify the risk and finan-cial benefits for the implementation of a strategy. In addi-tion, the Asset Strategy Implementation module provideshighly automated interfaces to implement and link the strat-egy in common EAM and Condition Monitoring systems.

 Asset Strategy Management

Meridium’s Asset Strategy Management (ASM) solutionprovides a better way to manage asset strategies using a risk-based approach. ASM provides a common methodology todefine actions and their mitigated risks, providing the abilityto evaluate existing plans with basic qualitative risk analysisthat is both straightforward and easy to use. Managers canvalidate existing plans or consider strategy options to updateplans to be more effective in managing risk.

 Asset Strategy Implementation

Once strategies have been defined and validated on risk,Meridium Asset Strategy Implementation (ASI) provides acomprehensive tool to employ them through an implemen-tation package. This allows for multiple strategies to becombined in a common package but implemented into vari-ous work management systems. The implementation pack-
