Welcome Back & COVID-19 Update

I wish to extend a special welcome back to

all students and their families, and hope you

all had a chance to enjoy some quality

family time during the school holiday period.

We continue to follow the advice of SA

Health and the Department for Education

that schools are low risk environments,

therefore are encouraging all students to

return to school for Term 2 as soon as

possible to resume face to face teaching and

their daily lessons.

Our attendance has steadily increased since

our first day back and we now have in

excess of 92% regular daily attendance. This

is on par with our pre COVID-19 attendance

rate.

As a result our online learning expectations

have been adapted to accommodate the low

number of vulnerable students working from

home. Leadership staff will be contacting all

students working from home in the coming

days to ensure all students are regularly

engaging with learning & lessons being

uploaded to the Dojo platform for R-4

students and One Note platform for Yrs 5-7.

It is important that adults maintain physical

distancing expectations during drop off &

pick up times, and DO NOT ENTER their

child’s class or the administration area

unless absolutely necessary.

Strict cleaning & hygiene practices will

continue to be enforced on a regular daily

basis with staff & students. Extra cleaning of

via a brief message/note using our regular communication

channels. We should all feel very reassured & proud that we

have the most AMAZING STAFF working with our children.

Parent / Carer Communication

Following our planning and preparation in providing online

learning & remote learning opportunities for ALL students, staff

have agreed to adopt consistent modes of communication

across all year levels from the beginning of Term 2.

All R-4 classes will now use Class Dojo as the main form of

communication, moving towards minimising the use of

communication books.

Similarly, all Yr 5-7 classes will use the One Note platform for

communicating with students (eg homework expectations) and

class group email lists for parent/carer communication.

We will continue to use the Skoolbag App and email group lists

for whole of school communication, along with our fortnightly

distribution of newsletters electronically and via hard copy (if

requested). Please ensure we have your up-to-date personal

contact details.

Access of Service Providers On-Site

To maintain physical distancing expectations we are limiting

the number of outside service providers working on site until

the end of Term 2 which may impact support for individual

students and programs.

As a result some students accessing speech, social work/

counselling, occupational therapy support from outside

providers will be receiving this support either off site or outside

school hours. Our special education teacher and I will be

contacting individual student families in the coming days to

negotiate the best way of delivering this support throughout

Term 2.

Additionally, our Instrumental Music program has been

postponed until the end of Term due to a lack of physical

space. Our Choir program will continue as normal with

additional physical distancing measures being put in place.

School Fees

Families who find themselves with changed financial

situation due to COVID-19 may now be eligible for school

card assistance. This pays for your school fees in full for the

current year.

Please see the attached flyer regarding how to apply or copy

& paste the link attached- sa.gov.au/education/schoolcard

Alternately, please contact the office by phone or email

[email protected] for assistance.

OSHC News

morning from 6:30am and after school until 6:30pm.

MY9 Mrs Mondello taught Mr Bayaziti’s class the art of Sgraffito using images to develop understanding and appreciation for the Surrealism movement in art.

Sgraffito is a technique in which students draw a dream-like fantasy picture using crayon and cover their drawing with a layer of paint. Students then scratch away the layer of paint to reveal their art work.

MY11 Feathers for Phoebe

In MY11 we read, ‘Feathers for Phoebe,’

to appreciate that everybody is

unique and to celebrate peoples

differences.

We talked about different cultures and

special things we do at home to

celebrate where we are from. We also

discussed what makes us special and

different to others.

After our discussion, we then made our

own Phoebe birds and decorated them

to suit our personalities. They are

hanging from our ceiling to remind us of

the special message in the book.

PY4 Snippet

In PY4 our class has been learning to use an educational version of the video game Minecraft. We have used the game to create visual representations for problem solving and exploring new Mathematical concepts. For some of us this has been a new learning experience altogether, and for others it has re-invented the way we can use the game. This has been an enjoyable STEM activity that we will continue to use throughout the year, even in other subject areas.
