Simplify your mechanicsThis lecture features well-document-ed cases to help clinicians create and execute easy and logical treatment plans. The supporting basic biome-chanical principles will be explained. Critical evaluation of extraction v.s. non-extraction will also be highlighted in the lecture. The goal is to convince you how you CAN treat these difficult cases easily with the powerful com-bination of self-ligation system and miniscrews.

Maxillary Impaction ortho-dontic treatment and surgeryTooth impaction is a common prob-lem in our clinical practice. Eruption and management of impacted teeth require carefully designed surgical proce-dures and orthodontic treat-ment. This lecture will detail some of the most common types of impac-tion cases, including maxillary cen-tral incisors and im-pacted canines (both labially and palatally), and their recommended course of surgi-cal as well as orthodontic treatment. An innovative, minimally invasive sur-gery, the VISTA technique, that can shorten the treatment time and best preserve the keratinised gingiva, will be introduced.

Mandibular Impaction orthodontic treatment and surgeryTooth impaction is a common prob-lem in our clinical practice. Lower im-pac-tions, compared to maxillary im-pactions, present greater challenges because the surgical risks of damaging adjacent nerves and vessels, the diffi-cult design of a powerful anchorage and higher resistance during forced eruption due to the high bone density in the mandible. This lecture will detail some of the most common types of impaction cases, including mandibular canines, pre-molars and molars. and their recommended course of surgi-cal as well as or-thodontic treatment. Buccal shelf screws, combined with 3-D lever arms are proposed as an ideal mechanical design will be intro-duced.

Gummy smile correctionAn innovative approach to correct gummy smile will be presented. The upper whole arch intrusion and re-traction by Temporary Anchorage De-vices (TADs) has been proved to be an effective way to improve gummy smile. This lecture will start with di-agnosis and treatment planning of gummy smile. Detailed mechanics and screw insertion techniques will be introduced. The rationales for sur-gical crown lengthening to finalise the smile will also be included.

Interdisciplinary treatment to complex adult cases Part I – Part IIComplex adult cases often involve therapies in more than one discipline. It re-quires a thorough understand-ing of multiple disciplines in order to provide a comprehensive care. This lecture will focus on the sequence of IDT planning as well as stepwise pro-cedures. Several practical tips will also be proposed.

Bio: Dr. Chris Chang received his PhD in bone physiology and Certificate in Orthodontics from Indiana University in 1996 and is a Diplomate of American Board of Orthodontics (ABO). He is the author of Jobsology, co-author of Ortho-dontics Vol I-IV, Clinical Implant Dentistry I-II, and publisher of International Journal of Or-thodontics and Implantology (iJOI). Dr. Chang frequently lectures worldwide on non-surgical orthodontic treatment, implant-orthodontic combined treatment and effective presenta-

tions. In addition to teaching and publishing, he also founded Newton’s A, Inc. and Bee-thoven Orthodontic Group, based in Hsinchu, Taiwan. His passion in digital learning has led him to produce a series of video courses on or-thodontics and implantology and an App (iOS), Beethoven Dental Encyclopedia (BDE). He has been actively involved in the design of ortho-dontic bone screws and application on impac-tion treatment. His latest focus is implant and orthodontic combined treatment.
