“Rest and Re-creation; Reconciliation and Resurrection: Praying with Movies and Music” January 4-6, 2019 Retreat Master Fr. Richard Malloy, SJ An Ignatian, Silent Retreat for Men St. Ignatius teaches us to seek and find God in all realities. Movies and music at our fingertips are relatively new realities in human experience. Messages of Faith, Justice and Reconciliation are found within movies like It’s a Wonderful Life; Places in the Heart; The Way and Coco. Our hearts and minds are moved by all kinds of music from the Ave Maria and Beethoven’s Ninth to The Beatles and Nina Simone. Let’s explore how to pray with these giſts. Meet Fr. Richard Malloy, SJ Fr. Richard Malloy, SJ was born in Philadelphia. He graduated from St. Joe’s Prep, the Jesuit high school in Philadelphia. He attended Lafayette College in Easton, PA, where he played football, lacrosse, and rugby. He earned a doctorate at Temple. While in Jesuit formation, he taught high school in Chile and spent one year in pastoral work in Santiago. At the University of Scranton, he is the University Chaplain and teaches courses in Anthropology, Sociology, and Theology. His books, A Faith That Frees: Catholic Matters for the 21st Century (Orbis Books 2008) and Being On Fire: The Top Ten Essentials of Catholic Faith (Orbis Books 2014), were recognized with awards by the Catholic Press Association. His newest book, Spiritual Direction: A Beginner’s Guide was published in 2017. Fr. Malloy has a blog (jesuitjottings. blogspot.com).
