Hi P6b!

I hope that you are all well? Its been another busy week here at classroom HQ.

Firstly, a huge ‘thank you’ to those of you who have emailed me your work this week. To see your work makes it all worthwhile. I appreciate you making the time to share your efforts - I really, really do. You know how I my job!

I do of course keep track of you all on Sumdog and Read Theory and am pleased that so many of you are working away so well. I can see how much time you spend on these tasks, how many questions you answer and of course how many you get correct! On Sumdog please select the challenges I set for Maths, Spelling and Grammar tasks each week. Check your TASKS section on your homepage and watch for the alerts.

A super well done to our 11 P6b students who completed their 5 comprehension challenges. I am extremely proud of you maintaining that ‘keen to learn’ attitude. Keep it up!

This week’s activities should keep you busy but do make time to get outside to exercise. Work on The Lion King starts this week for our summer term study all about the story, film and characters. Have fun with the activities and try your best. We are hoping to share this work when we all get back to school.

Remember you can email the school with examples of your work at admin@ gilm.edin.sch.uk mark it for me and get sharing! You can include any work you’ve been doing, photos of your activities or even just a catch-up message or ‘Hello.’ would be great.

Enjoy your short week this week – holiday Monday + Friday – yay!

Stay safe & stay healthy

from,

Mrs McKay x & Mrs Santhanam x

When completing your Big Maths challenges please remember

the following

✓ Login very carefully

✓ You can only complete these challenges ONCE A WEEK

✓ Have a paper and pencil beside you to write out the

calculations for the CLIC + SAFE Challenges

✓ Use the various methods you have been taught! Not all

sums need to be column sums

✓ The Learn Its Challenge is time limited so practice your

tables a few times BEFORE you try it to sharpen your skills

✓ Learn how to enter non-numerical symbols e.g. decimal

points and division signs etc as these are different for

different devices

Any problems at all then email us at admin@ gilm.edin.sch.uk and we can try to assist you. The website does have some

annoying glitches that will drive you mad. Once you are used to it

though, things do improve.

We can help if things have gone wrong with the site, but you must

let us know otherwise your scores will remain as recorded at the

time.

Use some of these ideas to practise your spelling words

Draw and Label Draw and label your spelling words. You MUST colour your drawings and labels. Don’t forget to add a lot of great detail. Do your very best.

Tennis Words Spell a word back and forth with a partner. You say the 1st letter, and then your partner says 2nd letter, and so forth.

Forwards and Backwards Write your spelling words forwards and then backwards. Write neatly! Example: where erehw

Wordsearch

Make a word search puzzle using your spelling words.

Graffiti Words

Write your spelling words two times. First write in regular letters. Then write he words again in squiggly letters!

Magazine Words Use an old magazine and find your words (or the letters that make up your word).

Cut them out and glue on your paper.

Acrostic Poem Choose one of your spelling words. Write an acrostic poem for that word. *Example: fly Fun in the sky. Laps around clouds. Yes! I’m free!

Create an Activity Can you think of a really fun way to practice your spelling words? Then go for it! Be sure to explain your activity so that I can share it with the class!

*Spelling Bee

Practice your spelling words in Spelling Bee style.

Spell your words out loud to a parent or sibling.

Fancy Letters Write each of your spelling words using fancy letters. Your letters can have curly-q’s or dots, for example. Have fun!

You must write the actual spelling word next to the “code word.”
