Advantages and Opportunities
The Network of Spanish Biosphere Reserves concentrates a varied heritage and is a
reference worldwide since Spain is the country with the largest number of biosphere reserves in the world.
It means belonging to an organized tourist offer and guaranteeing the tourist that their
choice is positive for the sustainable development of the environment.
It involves technical assistance to improve their knowledge of the book and how to
improve the sustainability of their business.
The club encourages its members to reach commercial agreements to set up a unique and attractive tourist experience for the demand.
Participate in a product network that is being supported by different institutions.

New strategies we are working for…
MAELsThe Micro Ecotourims
Areas on the Littoral
New strategies: MAEL
To promote a new strategy for the development of certain sustainable
activities that also imply a good environmental quality of the spaces in which they are developed.
It is a model of sustainable development based on areas of very small size,
not to exceed 50 Ha., basically driven by local administrations, where the
users themselves collaborate in their restoring and conservation.
This will also create a new alternative for tourism in the island, which promotes
sustainable marine activities such as: open water swimming, snorkeling, apnea,
recreational diving, surfing, bodyboarding, windsurfing, kitesurfing, paddel-surfing, kayaking , etc.
MAEL
To be attractive marine spaces in
which one or several modalities of
coastal ecotourism are developed.
Guarantee the public and free use of
the space.
To have the support of the competent
administration in this area (mainly, the
Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment,
MAGRAMA) and the users.
That its limits not to surpass the 50
Hectares
Goals
MAEL
Control that the area is kept out of future
projects that put at risk the ecotourism resources of this zone.
Attempting to promote conservation by
limiting certain activities such as fishing or
shellfish within the consensual space.
To promote the safety of users by restricting
the navigation of motor boats or sailing
boats
Beaconing of the outer zone, as well as a
proposal of regulation of internal uses that avoids conflicting between the different
users.
