ABOUT las cruces, new mexicoNestled in the fertile Mesilla Valley between the majestic
Organ Mountains and the meandering Rio Grande River,
Las Cruces, New Mexico, is quickly becoming a popular
southwestern destination.
As of the census of 2018, there are 102,926 people
and 63,675 households, in the city. Las Cruces is the
economic and geographic center of the Mesilla Valley.
This Valley is the agricultural region on the flood plain of
the Rio Grande which extends from Hatch, New Mexico
to the west side of El Paso, Texas. The City of Las Cruces
operates 137 city parks, 19 tennis courts, and 4 golf
courses.
Las Cruces is also the home of New Mexico State University (NMSU), New Mexico’s only land grant university. The city’s major employer
is the federal government on nearby White Sands Test Facility and White Sands Missile Range. The Organ Mountains, ten miles (16
km) to the east, are dominant in the city’s landscape, along with the Doña Ana Mountains, Robledo Mountains, and Picacho Peak. Las
Cruces lies 225 miles south of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and 45 miles north of El Paso, Texas. Las Cruces has been ranked by Forbes
as one of the best small metro areas for business and careers.
Las Cruces AirportLas Cruces International Airport is a city owned, public airport nine miles west of Las Cruces, in Doña Ana County, New Mexico. The
airport is used by general aviation, the United States government, New Mexico State University, private charters and the local CAP
squadron. In addition, Virgin Galactic Spaceport America, lies 44 miles north of Las Cruces, which is the world’s first company to offer
sub-orbital spaceflights. It has seen the completion of several successful manned, suborbital flights. El Paso International Airport,
which supports commercial air traffic, is located 52 miles south of Las Cruces.
WaterThe Las Cruces Utilities Water Resources Section produces approximately 7.1 billion gallons of clean, safe drinking water annually. The
City’s water system pumps its water from two deep aquifers; the Mesilla and Jornada Bolsons. This section maintains 30 wells, 12
storage tanks, 10 booster stations, 30 regulating valves, and more than 550 miles of underground water lines†.

This part of Sonoma Ranch includes parcels of single family and multi family land. Recent development in this area includes The Sonoma Palms Apartment community, the newest apartment complex in the city, made up of 192 high end units.
