Chamber CEO... Congratulations to the 2016 Leadership Tracy Graduates! In late November, the Tracy Chamber of Commerce recognized 12 graduates from the 2016 Leadership Tracy Program. The goal of Leadership Tracy is to expand the leadership skills of residents and business owners by providing them with the opportunity to participate in interactive exercises that will increase their knowledge and influence in the

community. The 6 month leadership program consisted of learning about the following areas of the City: Government, Business, Health & Human Services, Public Safety, Educa-tion, and Parks/Recreation and Public Works. The following indi-viduals graduated from the Chamber’s 2016 Leadership Tracy Class: (see photo on page 4) Mitra Behnam – Benham Accounting Solutions Carolyn Brown-Blunt – Life Coach Germaine Clark – Chamber Ambassador Charles Cooper – McLane Food Service Ceci Haas – Tracy Chamber Outside Sales Karen Keen – San Joaquin County WorkNet Dawn Kramer – Lawrence Livermore National Lab Site 300 Carol Neely – Tracy Chamber John Pavia – Pavia Law A Professional Corporation Debbie Rinaldo – Sutter Tracy Community Hospital Rob Ruibal – Aspire Hometown Realty Nichole Thomas – Uncle Credit Union “Leadership Tracy surpassed my expectations and allowed me to meet some wonderful people with different backgrounds and careers. As a business owner and as an attorney who represents many other business owners in the commu-nity, I intend to take what I have learned from this program and use it to help bridge the relationship between the governmental departments and the private business industry that is present in our city. The program has confirmed my belief that preserving the strength of this connection is a vital component in keeping our community prosperous and safe. I would encourage all those who care about the city’s future and those who want to be involved in representing this community to take part in this program. The experience is truly reward-ing.” - John Pavia, Leadership Tracy Graduate Congratulations to all the Leadership Graduates who participated in this year’s Leadership Tracy program. The Chamber is coordinating the 2017 Leadership program which will consist of 6 educational classes that will provide participants an inside look into integral areas within the City of Tracy. Applications for Leadership Tracy 2017 will be available in February. Classes will begin in May. The program is limited to 20 participants. If you are interested in participating in the 2017 Leadership Tracy program, contact the Chamber by calling 209-835-2131.

BUSINESS QUOTE OF THE MONTH:

“In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure”

– Bill Cosby

Spencer Floor Covering

Celebrating 80 Years in Business

When Harold Spencer started Spencer Floor Covering in his garage 80 years ago, he did not realize he was laying the foundation for one of today’s

longest standing businesses in the community. Harold’s son, Gary Spencer, proudly ran the business for 30 years before selling the name in 2006 to start his retirement. Nate Chandler and Jeff Lyons, fellow church members of Gary’s at Grace Baptist Church, purchased and ran the business for a year with the help of Gary before the beginning of the economic and building down turn in Tracy. To aid the business through the recession years, Ken McCarthy joined as a partner in 2008 and by the end of 2009 had obtained its sole ownership. Kipp Skelton became a partner in 2014 and has since continued to build the company’s reputation of excellent customer service, quality products and skilled installations. Kipp’s professionalism and vast knowledge of flooring products have contributed to the company becoming a premier flooring vendor in the Central Valley. Seeing an avenue to expand the company in 2015, Spencer Floor Covering and Helget Painting merged businesses, adding its owner, painting contractor Scott Helget as a third partner and starting its painting division. Spencer Flooring and Paint now offers their clients the quality flooring services they are known for as well as design consultation, interior/exterior painting and a combination of amenities that provide for a timely, professional and stress free project. Now in their beautiful two story showroom at 475 West Grant Line Road in Tracy, their staff works diligently to uphold Harold’s vision of making Spencer Flooring and Paint a leader among Central Valley businesses. For more information on Spencer Flooring and Paint call (209) 835-5537 or visit: www.spencerflooringandpaint.com
