TRANSCRIPT
I am pleased to be serving as Vice-President for the Wallaceburg & District
Chamber of Commerce and am excited about the upcoming changes we are hoping
to implement in the next few weeks. We feel that these programs will help
strengthen the connection between local businesses in and around Wallaceburg.
The Chamber is looking to introduce Member to Member benefits where
businesses can offer discounts of their choosing to other Chamber members. This
program will include stickers for employees and window decals for participating
businesses. Furthermore, the Chamber is offering a new signage special with a
two-year contract which includes flexible payment plans. Please contact the
Chamber for more information on these new programs.
We are looking forward to Business After Hours coming up on September 18th
which is being hosted by CKXS 99.1 FM. We encourage everyone to come out as it is
a good networking opportunity and a great way to meet other people from the
community.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill out their surveys, your feedback
is greatly appreciated and a report will be coming soon. Also, if you have not done
so already please fill out your email consent form so that you can be included in
our mailing lists. If you have not received a consent form please contact the
Chamber office and we will be more than happy to send you one.
We greatly appreciate everyone’s continued support, and we are always looking

A. Debot & Sons
A. Debot & Sons Ltd. is a family
owned and operated farm business with
over 60 years of experience. The
company was founded by Albert DeBot
and his wife Anna in 1947, starting with
200 acres of land.
Albert and his two sons, Remi and
Dennis had a vision to become leaders in
the agriculture industry. Over the next 6
decades the operation would grow
exponentially, farming 6000 acres and
operating as one of the largest family
farms in Chatham-Kent.
The DeBot family and the farm
company experienced a great loss with
the passing of Remi Debot in September
2013. Remi was the Vice President of
A. Debot & Sons since its incorporation
over 15 years ago and had farmed his
whole life. The DeBot family and
company truly misses Remi and
although its sometimes hard the team is
“growing forward” as to Remi’s wishes.
Dennis and his son Chad DeBot are
now at the forefront of the company.
Remi’s son-in-law Bob Gormley is also
part of the company team. The company
employs 5 additional people during the
spring planting and fall harvest. Chad
has been a seed dealer for Mycogen for
the past three years.
At present day; corn, soybeans and
wheat are the main cash crops grown.
The majority of the corn harvested is
used for ethanol. All crops cultivated
are either stored on farm, delivered to
local elevators or to end users and is
appreciated everyday in the food we eat.
The company has grown seed corn for
Pride Seeds for the last 15 years. For the
past 10 years the company has had
contracts to grow green peas for Bonduelle Foods located in Strathroy.
Green and waxed beans have also been
grown for the past 3 years for the same
company. Cucumbers were also added
to the 2014 growing season.
On site you will find storage and
drying for over 400,000 bushels of
product including a new state of the art
drying system and truck scales to weigh
product in from harvest and out to the
contracted site. There is also over
20,000 square feet of storage to house all
necessary equipment and machinery.
The relevance of the whole industry
is seen every day, all around the world
and this is where the company feels the
passion. The focus on the farm has been
to deliver high quality product which
attributes to the success of the company.
Walpole Island Rod & Gun Club
The Walpole Island Rod and Gun
Club was established in 2011 by Dennis
DeBot and Chad DeBot, acting as
President of the Club. The DeBot family
has farmed on Walpole Island for over
35 years and when “The Club” became
available they decided to take on the
venture.
Here you will find an elegant cedar
lodge with accommodations for 12
hunters or fisherman, equipped with a
full kitchen, 3 full bathrooms, hot water,
4 flat screen TV’s with satellite hookups,
WIFI and phone. A Guides house and
workshop, locker room, pump house,
electrical shed, stainless steel storage
bins, and dog kennels can all be found
on site.
The marsh is comprised of 1600 acres
of natural wetlands habitat, it is bounded
on the east coast by Goose Lake and on
the west by Chematogan Channel. In the
marsh you will find 26 duck hunting
ponds and 6 march sanctuaries. Also on
site you will find 3 field ponds, flooded
corn, 2 field sanctuaries and a small
staging area for dove shooting. Ontario
had its first “Mourning Dove” season in
2013.
What makes the Rod and Gun Club
special is that we are a main staging area
for the south migration in the fall and the
north migration in the spring. In addition to this unique fact is that the St.
Clair region is the only location in all of
North America where we see waterfowl
from the Mississippi flyway, and the
Atlantic flyway.
We have had the privilege to meet
some really great people in the last few
years. Some of our highlights have
been:
The Fish’n Canada Show in the summer of 2013 staying at the club
while filming the 2014 Episode 1-
Federal Weser
Angler and Hunter Television Host
Mike Miller and Executive Director
of Long Point Waterfowl Dr. Scott Petrie televise Ontario’s first
Mourning Dove hunt - Episode 3.
Ontario Out of Doors writer and
water fowler, Scott McGuigan
hunted at the Club in 2013 - there will be a publication regarding the
Club in the Hunt Annual out early
this fall
And of course, our current and past
membership
We have also had the privilege to
work with Scott Petrie in a partnership
distributing over 800 Henhouses that
were gifted to us from the Flyway
Foundation in South Carolina. These
nesting tubes have been installed
throughout the flyway zones in our area.
Currently the Club employs 6 Guides
and 2 House staff from the Walpole
Island First Nations, Bkejwanong
Territory. The membership for
2014/2015 Waterfowl Season consists of
40 avid waterfowlers from Ontario,
Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, South
Carolina, Georgia and Illinios.
We are looking forward to another
great 2014/2015 Waterfowl season at the
Club!
Community Living Wallaceburg
Community Living Wallaceburg’s
history and successes are rooted in
advocacy, community development and
offering an extensive range of
information, services and supports to
children, youth and adults with
intellectual and related disabilities.
The agency has progressed from a
grassroots network of families, friends
NOT FOR PROFIT
Page 5
and volunteers in 1956 to today, where we are actively engaging with some 400
individuals and families across the
Municipality of Chatham-Kent.
Throughout the organizations long
history, a group of dedicated employees
and volunteers, governed by a skilled
Board of Directors, has remained
committed to enabling people to explore
opportunities to realize their own
potential and to participate as full
citizens in all elements of community
life.
Community Living Wallaceburg
provides a multitude of programs and
services. The agency’s community and
accommodation supports are highly
flexible and tailored to each person’s
unique requirements, while employees
support people who are deafblind to
safely interpret, access and enjoy their
home and community by utilizing
intervenor techniques. Families through-
out Chatham-Kent can also access short
break (respite) services, along with
community support, advocacy, planning
and case management, through
Individual and Family Directed
Supports.
Another program offered by
Community Living Wallaceburg is Job-
match, the agency’s employment support
initiative. Since its inception in 2003,
Jobmatch has assisted well over 200
people to overcome disability related
barriers to employment and to secure
and maintain meaningful, full paying
jobs across Chatham-Kent. In doing so,
the program has also established and
nu r tu red numerous emp loye r
partnerships.
There are many advantages to hiring
people with disabilities and developing
accessible employment practices that
ensure a worker’s success. Often,
businesses report better job retention,
higher attendance rates, lower turnover,
enhanced job performance and work
quality, and better safety records as a
result of inclusive hiring practices and
d e ve l o p i n g a c c e s s i b l e w o r k
environments. According to research from
Statistics Canada, organizations with
accessible employment practices saw a
72 per cent increase in staff retention
among people with disabilities, 90 per
cent of people with disabilities did as
well or better in their jobs than co-
workers without disabilities, and 86 per
cent of employees with disabilities rated
average or better in attendance.
Recent studies also indicate that an
inclusive and diverse workforce leads to
greater innovation, because many people
with disabilities possess unique skill sets
and solutions to business challenges that
are often more innovative and creative.
Through Jobmatch, there are
several services available to employers
including pre-screening of applicants
and individualized, on-site job training
for employees to develop the skills and
confidence required for the assigned
tasks. These services are available at no
cost to the business.

Jobmatch program is assisting
businesses to meet their labour needs,

Wallaceburg’s other programs and

As the weather heats up, many
Canadians are counting down the days
until their summer vacation. Whether
you’re looking to travel outside your home
province, or outside the country, you want
to make sure that you have travel health
coverage to protect against unforeseen
medical emergencies.
If you have employee benefits, you
may not need to purchase additional travel
insurance. The Chambers of Commerce
Group Insurance Plan® Health option, for
example, provides a wide range of travel
benefits to insured employees and family
members. These people do not typically
need to buy additional short-term personal
policies unless they plan to be away for an
extended period of time.
Chambers Plan Voyage Assistance
takes care of a broad range of expenses
which go over the amounts covered by
our Provincial Medical Plan. Covering
typical charges like hospital services,
semi-private room charges and doctors’
bills, Voyage Assistance will also
translate, direct claimants to local
medical facilities, advance payments
required prior to treatment, and evacuate
patients to more appropriate facilities
nearer home. The coverage also provides
return of vehicle, lost luggage, and lost
document services.
Check your group policy for travel
coverage before you leave on vacation.
See what benefits you’re entitled to and
note any limits that apply (such as a
maximum trip duration or age
restrictions). You may be able to save
yourself the cost of additional insurance
coverage when you travel.
To learn more about the travel
benefits available with Chambers Plan,
contact your local advisor.

and getting quotes for the fence. They
have had car washes, BBQ’s, sold dog
scarves, received donations and had a
50-50 draw that raised almost $1700.
Along the way they even held a garage
sale that raised $700 which they donated
to ARF.
In September 2011 the committee
attended a Chatham-Kent Council
Meeting where they were recognized four
their efforts and given a grant for
$5,000!! They also applied for and was
awarded a “Helping Hands” grant for
$1000 from Union Gas. The fence was
ordered and on the third weekend of
October the committee, their friends,
family and a few professionals gave birth
to Happy Tails, Wallaceburg’s DOLRA
(Dog Off Leash Recreation Area). They
have a holding area that leads to small
and large dog parks. Last year they
added a shade structure in the small dog
park and this year they hope to add a
piece of agility equipment.
This year will mark the 3rd
anniversary when they will gather on the
third Saturday of October to do their fall
clean-up and provide a free BBQ for all
their volunteers. FYI ... spring clean-up
is the first Saturday in May.
Park users or not, dog owners or not,
they are always looking for new
members. Now at the maintenance stage
of things they hold 6-8 meetings a year,
do the clean-ups and have at least one
fundraising event (a BBQ and scarf sale
that was held at No Frills in June). With-
out an active committee there would be
no park. Please contact Nancy Townley
at (519) 627-5277 for more information.
Wallaceburg Happy Tails Dog Park
Approximately 5 years ago an
enthusiastic community member
approached Sheldon Parsons inquiring
about having an off-leash dog park in
Wallaceburg, Sheldon expressed his
support and encouraged her to form a
committee and begin the process. Jane
McGee, Chatham-Kent’s Supervisor of
Recreational Facilities, was and is
invaluable to the success of the park.
Once the location was decided upon at
the end of Baldoon Road where it meets
