ANZAC day

ANZAC day

Where do anzac biscuits come in?The original ANZAC biscuit wasnt sweet like it is today. Back then, when the war was on, it was known as the ANZAC tile or wafer. The ANZAC tile was savoury, and used as a substitute for bread in the soldiers rations.

World war iWorld War I started in 1914, 100 years ago, on the 28th of July, and ended on the 11th of November, 1918.

It started when the Siberians assassinated the Austrians heir to the throne. This gave the Austrians tan excuse to declare war on the Siberians. Austria had sought out the help of `allies. But, the Siberians were ready for this. The Siberians also called for allies within their treaties.

So, therefore, when all of the countries had rallied, the horrendous war began.

GallipoliThe Australians and New Zealanders, the ANZACs, were planning to launch a surprise attack on Turkey who were at war with Russia. There was a river that the Turks had blocked up, and Russia was trying to open that up. The ANZACs were trying to force a distraction.

They landed on the 25th of April, 1915- thats why ANZAC day is on the 25th of April! The ANZACs planned to land on the peninsula near Imbros, but they landed somewhere north of that, where there were towering cliffs blocking their advance inland. The cove that they landed on was later named Anzac Cove.

Many died that day. The Turks were ready for them, well concealed on the cliff above.
