Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2016

Page 2: Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2016 - Tokyo Metropolitan ......PWRI, are applied and investigated for estimating depth of the cracks. In this fiscal year, accuracy of the applied method

【Department】:Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Environmental Engineering

【Name】:Jun MURAKOSHI 【Position】:Professor 【Research Topic】:Bridge engineering, Steel bridge design, Load rating and Fatigue Evaluation of

steel bridge, Repair and strengthening 【Outline of research achievement】 Research on performance evaluation of SFRC overlays as a measure to improve durability of existing orthotropic steel decks

Murakoshi,J. With rapid increase of truck weight and traffic volume in Japan, various types of fatigue cracks

have recently been observed in existing orthotropic steel decks (OSDs) under severe traffic condition. As an effective retrofit measure to prevent those cracks, steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) overlays have been increasingly used for damaged OSDs. On the other hand, there are not sufficient data to confirm its durability. It is important to investigate the durability performance under the effect of repeated wheel loading and environmental action. The purpose of this research is to clarify durability of adhesively bonded joints between SFRC and deck plate, and propose testing procedures for evaluating its durability.

In this fiscal year, in order to clarify deterioration tendency of tensile strength of the adhesively bonded joints, tensile core-extraction strength tests of adhesively bonded joints of SFRC overlay were conducted using full-scale specimens, which were exposed in outdoor environment during 7 years after fatigue tests. Research on practical ultrasonic inspection method for fatigue cracks in orthotropic steel decks

Murakoshi,J Fatigue cracks have been recently reported at weld root of deck plate-U type rib connection in

orthotropic steel deck bridges on heavy traffic route. These cracks propagate towards the upper surface of deck plate that makes it difficult to detect them during visual inspection. In this research, with the purpose of developing a reliable and practical non-destructive inspection technique for the cracks, an ultrasonic testing method using SV waves by critical angle beam probe developed by PWRI, are applied and investigated for estimating depth of the cracks.

In this fiscal year, accuracy of the applied method was investigated with small-size test specimens which

modeled rib-to-deck connection details with fatigue cracks generated in the laboratory fatigue test. Research on evaluation of fatigue durability of existing steel I-girder highway bridges

Murakoshi,J. Nogami, K. and Kishi, Y. Serious fatigue damage which may lead to fracture of main girder have been observed on steel

Page 3: Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2016 - Tokyo Metropolitan ......PWRI, are applied and investigated for estimating depth of the cracks. In this fiscal year, accuracy of the applied method

I-girder highway bridges under severe traffic condition. To assure structural safety of huge number of steel bridges, it is important to manage those bridges efficiently considering information about fatigue vulnerability in addition to periodic inspection. The purpose of this research is to assess fatigue vulnerability of existing steel I-girder bridges constructed in 1960’s and 1970’s, when fatigue design were not adopted.

In this fiscal year, in order to investigate relation among adopted design code, structural type, span length, etc., and acting stress of major welded joints of main girder, FEM analysis was conducted for an simple I-girder designed by 1964 design code in order to assess acting stresses. Research on evaluation method of remaining capacity for existing structural members in steel and composite structures

Murakoshi,J., Nogami, K. and Kishi,Y. In Japan, majority of highway bridges was constructed during the high economic growth period

and the number of bridges over 50 years is increasing drastically. With increase of aging bridges, it is highly probable that deteriorated bridges increase rapidly since many of them are exposed to heavy traffic condition and severe natural environment. Corrosion is a major damage for steel bridges, especially at girder end, and it results in decreasing the load capacity since it induces sectional loss of structural members. With regards to steel truss bridges, severe corrosion with sectional loss around gusset plate connections often have possibility to lead to a crucial problem such as bridge collapses. However, in the both cases, because corrosion appears in various forms, for the present, effective techniques to evaluate the ultimate strength of whole bridge with corroded members are under development. This research focuses on proposing a simplified approach for evaluating remaining capacity of bridge systems with severe corroded bridge members.

In this fiscal year, compressive loading test of a girder end specimen which was cut out from a demolished railway bridge at age of 82 years were conducted to investigate the effect of the section loss on the remaining capacity. Also FEM was carried out considering the section loss measured with laser measurement equipment. Furthermore, with regards to truss members, FEM were conducted for the specimens by simulating experimental condition in order to examine the effect of the simulated sectional loss on elasto-plastic behavior and ultimate strength. Research on application of advanced analysis techniques towards rationalization of steel bridges

Murakoshi, J., Nogami, K. and Kishi, Y. Advanced structural analyses such as FEM, etc. have generally been applied to stress calculation

in structural details or a complicated structure, while frame structural analysis, which is based on beam theory, is adopted as structural design of highway bridges. In order to increase competitiveness of steel bridges by effectively utilize their characteristics as thin-walled structures, it is required to adopt design criteria based on the advanced analysis technique in the design code.

In this research, focusing on beam-to-column connections of steel piers with complicated stress

Page 4: Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2016 - Tokyo Metropolitan ......PWRI, are applied and investigated for estimating depth of the cracks. In this fiscal year, accuracy of the applied method

distribution, three analysis methods of frame structural analysis, FEM, and constant shear flow panel analysis are evaluated from the viewpoint of applicability to bridge design.

In this fiscal year, stress distribution were calculated by those three methods for the beam-to-column connections of T-shape steel piers, and calculation precision/time were compared. Research on elasto-plastic behavior and ultimate strength of multi super long-span suspension bridges

Murakoshi, J., Nogami, K. and Kishi, Y. Several construction projects of super long-span suspension bridges with center span length over

3000m are being planned in the world, although there seems no possibility of their construction in Japan. Towards realization, drastic reduction of construction cost is an important issue while sufficiently ensuring structural safety. Continuous efforts to develop new structural systems and design methods are needed. In this research, structural characteristics of super long-span suspension bridges that pursue cost-performance are investigated as feasibility study.

In this fiscal year, parametric analysis was carried out to clarify the effects of structural parameters, number of span(3, 4 and 5) and sag ratio(1/8, 1/10 and 1/12) on the elasto-plastic behavior and ultimate strength of a whole structural system. 【Presentations】(including presentation by co-authors) 1) Stress reduction effect by concrete overlays on orthotropic steel decks, Ono,S., Murakoshi,J.,

To this end, we extend the new economic geography models of industrial location and agglomeration with factor mobility. We then present parameter estimation and calibration procedures and an approach for obtaining the stable equilibrium that emerges with changes in structural parameters. Applying these methods, this study quantifies the effects of the trade cost reductions in Japan to clearly describe characteristics of the developed model. 【Presentations】 1) Tomoki Ishikura and Azusa Oayama: High Speed Rail shock in Hokuriku-Tokyo air transport market, Oral Presentation at the 20th Air Transport Research Society world conference, Rhodes, Greece, June 2016. 2) Tomoki Ishikura and Atsushi Koike: Perfect and Imperfect Modeling on Spatial CGE Analysis, Oral Presentation at 56th European Congress of the Regional Science Association International (ERSA2016), Vienna, Austria, August 2016. 3) Tomoki Ishikura: Metropolitan CGE for transport project appraisal, Oral Presentation at 56th European Congress of the Regional Science Association International (ERSA2016), Vienna, Austria, August 2016. 【Publications】 1)Yuki TAKAYAMA, Takashi AKAMATSU, Tomoki ISHIKURA: DEVELOPMENT OF A SPATIAL COMPUTABLE GENERAL EQUILIBRIUM MODEL WITH FACTOR MOBILITY AND AGGLOMERATION ECONOMIES, Journal of Japan Society of Civil Engineers, Ser. 【Department】:Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Environmental Engineering 【Name】:Masami YANAGIHARA 【Position】:Assistant Professor 【Research Topic】:Traffic Engineering, Traffic Flow, Driving Behavior 【Outline of research achievement】 A new idea for foundational driving behavior modeling was considered. The idea has potential to solve conventional problematic modeling framework which make it difficult to lead macroscopic traffic flow state from the microscopic driving behavior. These ideas are based on reviewed models depicting drivers’ behavior or traffic flow. A mathematical framework of the idea was implemented and empirical analysis for the framework had undertaken based on experimental data of real/virtual driving experiment. Furthermore, relationship between lane-changing behaviors and traffic flow was analyzed based on microscopic traffic simulation which was simply implemented. This study is the first

step to reveal the theoretical relationship between microscopic driver’s behavior model and macroscopic traffic flow

model. 【Presentations】 1) INDIVIDUAL EFFECTS OF MOVING LIGHT GUIDE SYSTEM ON CAR FOLLOWING BEHAVIORS,Masami YANAGIHARA,Hiroyuki ONEYAMA and Huijun ZHU,Research Meeting on Civil Engineering Planning,Vol.53,2016.6 2) TRAFFIC STATE INTERPOLATION OF UNOBSERVED ROAD LINKS BY GAUSSIAN GRAPHICAL MODEL,Yuji SUZUKI,Masami YANAGIHARA,Hiroyuki ONEYAMA,Research Meeting on Civil Engineering Planning,Vol.53,2016.6 3) EMPIRICAL ANALYSIS ON RAMP CHOICE BEHAVIOR IN CASE OF ACCIDENTS ON A FULL NETWORK OF METROPOLITAN EXPRESSWAY USING ETC DATA,Rikuto SAITO,

【Department】:Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Environmental Engineering 【Name】:Motohiko UMEYAMA 【Position】:Professor 【Research Topic】:PIV Measurements for Rear-end and Head-on Collisions of Two Solitary Waves 【Outline of research achievement】 The flow visualization technique was applied to the collision of two solitary waves propagating in the same and opposite directions. Measurements of the velocity and trajectory of the solitary waves were conducted using a PIV system consisting of an 8-W ND:YAG laser and a high-speed CCD camera. In the solitary-wave interaction tests, we set up three kinds of velocity fields - smaller, taller, and compound waves in the rear-end collision tests, and right-running, left-running, and colliding waves in the head-on collision tests. Instantaneous and spatial surface profiles were measured using the image thresholding method in which the boundary plane between the air and water can be detected as the interface having the maximum luminance value. The measured run-up elevation of the colliding wave was compared with the theoretical elevation using a third-order perturbation solution. Based on an Eulerian-Lagrangian algorithm, the PIV result was applied to the particle tracking process that occurred in the two-dimensional plane. The experimental wave profiles suggest that there is a phase difference in each solitary wave before and after a head-on collision. We have not made a detailed inspection of the phase shift phenomenon because the horizontal distance of the test section was limited for some depth conditions. We presented instantaneous velocity vector maps to compare them with two single solitary wave results. We used a PIV algorithm to track water particle displacements. The high accuracy of the proposed approach could be applied to a Lagrangian description of the trajectory of a water particle for both rear-end and head-on collisions. 【Presentations】 1) Motohiko Umeyama, Visualization analyses on a head-on collision between two solitary waves, the 35th International Conference on Coastal Engineering, ASCE, (November 17-20, 2016). 【Publications】 1)Motohiko Umeyama, Head-on collisions of two solitary waves with different amplitudes using imaging techniques, Proceedings of ICCE, ASCE, Wave 35, https://icce-ojs-tamu.tdl.org/icce/index.php/icce/article/view/810. 【Department】:Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Environmental Engineering 【Name】:Tetsuya SHINTANI 【Position】:Assistant Professor 【Research Topic】:Hydraulic Engineering, Computational Fluid Mechanics, Stratified Flow 【Outline of research achievement】 A numerical investigation has been conducted to understand the hydrodynamics in stratified lakes and coastal area. To efficiently obtain highly resolved numerical solutions, we proposed a new grid refinement scheme based on an unstructured-Cartesian grid discretization. The scheme has been implemented to a three-dimensional hydrodynamic simulator, Fantom Refined. The simulator is not only applicable to the environmental fluid flows, but also to tsunami propagation and inundation problems. To test the accuracy and efficiency of the present simulator, the simulator is applied to several lakes and estuaries. The computed results show good agreements with the measured field data within a reasonable computational time. 【Presentations】 【Publications】 1) DEVELOPMENT OF REAL-TIME FORECASTING SYSTEM FOR WATER QUALITY

【Department】:Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Environmental Engineering 【Name】:Hideo AMAGUCHI 【Position】:Assistant Professor 【Research Topic】:Hydrology, River Engineeriing 【Outline of research achievement】 Study on development and application of a flood runoff analysis model to analyze complicated rainwater runoff in urban watershed are focused. In order to apply the flood runoff analysis model using the urban landscape GIS delineation to other river basin, the method of automated algorithm to construct land use data usable for flood runoff analysis from numerical map and rainwater pipeline network data utilizing road network are developed.

An hourly evapotranspiration model that can express the amount of evapotranspiration accounting for differences in soil moisture and infiltration characteristics of individual land-surface features is developed. And the model was applied to the highly urbanized upper Kanda River watershed, and the impacts of differences in land use on the spatial distribution of evapotranspiration and land-surface temperature was analyzed. 【Presentations】 1) M. 【Department】:Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Environmental Engineering 【Name】:Kazuo NISHIMURA 【Position】:Professor 【Research Topic】:Ground-Underground Structure, Experimental Test, Static/ Dynamic Analysis 【Outline of research achievement】 1) Numerical Analysis on Seismic Isolation Method for Existing Tunnels Seismic isolation methods of existing cut and cover tunnels are investigated mainly on soft seismic isolation layer. But there are less construction results because there are some problems of this seismic isolation layer method of construction. This study is aimed at understanding the isolating effect of seismic isolation walls and pile method. This research derived the results of the transfer mechanism of dynamic action from ground to tunnel, by dynamic analysis on the model in which one rectangular tunnel is set through a section where ground conditions vary suddenly. 2) Verification of Validity of Static Analysis Methods to Evaluate Seismic Behavior of Underground Structures The static analysis methods are often used to evaluate the seismic behavior of underground structures. But the limitation of the applicability of static analysis methods for seismic behavior is not well-known. Therefore, comparing the results obtained from the some static analyses and dynamic analysis. As a result, there are few differences in the distributions of sectional forces, especially at the corners of walls of cut and cover tunnel. Furthermore, the validity of the distributions of dynamic earth pressure on cut and cover tunnel as the nodal forces of FEM model is examined. This distribution profile of dynamic earth pressure is different from ordinary design pressures. 3) Seismic Response on Tunnel in the ground with Irregularity The previous earthquake damage data indicate that these deformation modes of the lining can't occur in the ordinary seismic ground shear motion of stratified ground. In this research, numerical analyses of ground with irregularity of stratum boundary face between diluvium and alluvium were performed using intersecting angles between the axis of the tunnel and the stratum boundary face as parameter. It became obvious that the maximum axial force of tunnel lining in the ground with topographic irregularity is larger than that in horizontally stratified ground, and the position of the maximum cross-sectional force of tunnel lining was rotated toward to the crown of lining from shoulder, at which the maximum force was induced in horizontally layered ground. 【Presentations】 1) Basic study on behavior of tunnel located proximate slope, Marika UMEZAWA, Tsuyoshi DOMON, Kazuo NISHIMURA, Proceedings of the 71th Annual Meeting of JSCE, Vol.71-3-398, Sep. 2016 [in Japanese] 2) Basic study on thin wall support of tunnel, Syuu NAKAJIMA, Kazuo NISHIMURA, Tsuyoshi DOMON, Proceedings of the 71th Annual Meeting of JSCE, Vol.71-3-399, Sep. 2016 [in Japanese]

【Department】:Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Environmental Engineering 【Name】:Kimitaka UJI 【Position】:Professor 【Research Topic】:Fresh Concrete、Construction、Durability 【Outline of research achievement】 (1) Mortar-filling method has been adopted for the strengthening of existing structures using jacket

plate. It is most important to fill up the space between structure and jacket plate with mortar. The influence factors for filling materials with 250mm flow and the segregation of mortar were investigated. It was clarified that the boundary of filling for narrow space would be determined by plastic viscosity. (2) Compaction by using vibration under construction is important to obtain high quality concrete. Concrete having the slump of 80 mm was cast in the model frame fabricated reinforcing bars, the behavior of flowability to the space between fabricated reinforcing bars and formwork through the bars (interval of 35,50,65mm) was investigated in consideration of distance of vibrator from fabricated reinforcing bars. (3) Most of pre-cast concrete products are usually cured in steam chamber. In this study, the specimens were cured under the condition of supplying the water by sprinkler. The microstructures of the surface of pre-cast concrete were measured. It was found that water supply was effective to improve the pore structure. (4) As for the repairing technique, retrofitting method by using sprayed polymer mortar and Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) grids have been adopted. Pull-out test was carried out in order to investigate the shear bond behavior between base concrete and polymer-modified mortar including CFRP grids. Also, assuming the fracture energy of interface between existing concrete and repair material, the shear bond behavior was analytically estimated. (5) In advanced water treatment system, concrete were deteriorated by some factors based on chemical attack and abrasion by activated carbon in biological activated carbon adsorption basin. In this study, accelerated deterioration tests of mortar specimens were conducted in a laboratory. The prediction curves on concrete deterioration due to chemical and physical actions were estimated based on laboratory tests.

【Department】:Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Environmental Engineering 【Name】:Mitsutoshi YOSHIMINE 【Position】:Associate Professor 【Research Topic】:Soil Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering 【Outline of research achievement】 1) Behavior of a sand under large deformation in accurate simple shear conditions was observed

using hollow cylindrical torsional apparatus. Then the behavior was compared with the behaviors observed in triaxial compression and extension conditions.

2) Non-uniformity of deformation and density generally develops in shear box test of soils, and it makes difficult to evaluate the conditions of the specimen. We proposed a new and reliable methodology for evaluating the size of shear bands in the specimen in shear box to solve the problem.

3) Amount of crashing of sand particles during cyclic loading was measured by triaxial experiments. Based on the experiments we discussed about the reduction of liquefaction resistance of sandy deposits during earthquakes.

【Department】:Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Environmental Engineering 【Name】:Kentaro OHNO 【Position】:Assistant Professor 【Research Topic】:Concrete engineering, Nondestructive evaluation for concrete structure, Elastic wave in concrete

【Outline of research achievement】 The number of civil infrastructures built more than 50 years ago has been increasing not only in Japan but also the other developed countries. Especially, since reinforced concrete structures are subjected to variety environmental conditions such as traffic loads. It is important to estimate current state of existing concrete structures by using nondestructive evaluation method. In this study, elastic wave method and acoustic emission method were applied to concrete members to estimate damage in concrete. As a result, these methods are applicable to estimate some damages in concrete due to fatigue and fire. In addition, un-grouted tendon duct in prestressed concrete could be evaluated by elastic wave tomography. 【Presentations】 1) Kentaro Ohno, Kimitaka Uji and Atsushi Ueno : Estimation of Deterioration Factors and Mechanisms on Concrete Surface at Advanced Water Treatment System, The 15th Seoul-Tokyo Forum 2016, pp.6-1-6-6,June, 2016. 2) Tatsuya Ogura, Kentaro Ohno, Kimitaka Uji, Atsushi Ueno, Yoshihide Sato, Naohiro Ishida, Takeshi Tobari, Takafumi Kushida and Yuji Niwabayashi : Effect of Abrasion Deterioration on Concrete Surface in Biological Activated Carbon Absorption Pool, Proceedings of the 71th Annual Conference of the Japan Society of Civil Engineers, pp.581-582 (September 2016) [in Japanese] 3) Masahito Tada, Atsushi Ueno, Kentaro Ohno and Kimitaka Uji : Influence of types of binder and pre-curing and temperature rising speed in temperature history curing on properties in mortar, Proceedings of the 71th Annual Conference of the Japan Society of Civil Engineers, pp.583-584 (September 2016) [in Japanese] 4) Takafumi Saito, Kentaro Ohno, Kimitaka Uji, Atsushi Ueno and Mikio Sekiguchi : A fundamental study on detection of delamination between concrete and steel plate in reinforced concrete slab reinforced with steel plate bonding by impact elastic wave method, Proceedings of the 71th Annual Conference of the Japan Society of Civil Engineers, pp.921-922 (September 2016) [in Japanese] 5) Satoshi Iwano, Mitsuo Ozawa, Shinya Uchida, Kentaro Ohno, Takayuki Fumoto and Yuki Sakoi : A fundamental study on estimation of deterioration depth in fire-damaged concrete by impact elastic wave method, Proceedings of the 71th Annual Conference of the Japan Society of Civil Engineers, pp.925-926 (September 2016) [in Japanese] 6) Kentaro Ohno, Mitsuo Ozawa, Shinya Uchida, Satoshi Iwano, Takayuki Fumoto and Yuki Sakoi : Estimation of deteriorated area in Fire damaged concrete by elastic wave tomography, Proceedings of
