programs healing retreats

ITK Healing Retreats are educational and experiential and serve as a catalyst for change and new possibilities for everyone involved. Children with special needs, their primary caregivers, and their siblings experience integrative healing services and participate in support groups throughout the week, while also connecting with each other and other families.

Children and families benefit from complimentary and integrative therapies to support conventional medical approaches. Therapies such as massage, meditation, and acupuncture are beneficial in the management of stress, anxiety, and pain, and support healing for the mind, body and spirit. A network of support is created through the creation of community. This program serves every member of the

family – kids with special needs, their parents and siblings, and involves more than 75 youth volunteers and 100 adult volunteers.

family has never felt love like this! We have been forever transformed and awakened! Grateful!”

programs live butterfly release events ITK holds live butterfly release events three to four times each year. During these events more than 200 live indigenous butterflies are released as children and adults watch in wonder. Butterflies serve as a symbol of transformation for ITK families. Each butterfly reveals the unique beauty that each individual has to offer. Families who attend these events have the opportunity to participate in a variety of crafts and activities, including face and finger painting, fun with clay, origami and live music. Families also have the chance to design Smile and Kindness Cards for hospitalized children. Butterfly Release events are held in partnership with local businesses in Tucson, such as La Encantada Shopping Center and Hacienda del Sol Guest Ranch Resort.

playdates in the park With the aim of providing year round support to retreat families, children in the community, and junior volunteers, ITK created ongoing Playdates in The Park to serve families with special medical needs that often feel isolated. This program is a monthly gathering of ITK families, volunteers, and kids with and without special needs from the greater community . Playdates are held at local parks and a variety of games and activities are available to each participant. Activities are designed to accommodate children of all abilities while utilizing an inclusive education model. !

programs hospital heroes It takes heroes in our community to support families with kids with special needs who are spending time in the hospital. When families are in crisis, ITK sends teams of volunteers into the hospital to provide support. This support can include anything from integrative healing therapies like reflexology, sound healing and gentle massage to visits from life coaches or other skilled volunteers who can provide comfort and moral support. It takes a village to help families get through difficult moments and ITK provides that village. ITK’s Hospital Heroes gives families the tools they need to survive together through challenging times.

programs parent support groups Parents with kids with special medical needs often feel isolated and alone. Support groups provide participants with coping strategies, moral support, a sense of empowerment, reduced distress, depression, and anxiety, a place to talk openly and honestly about feelings, and practical advice about treatment options and community resources. ITK offers monthly support groups for parents of children with special medical needs so they can have ongoing care, connection and support. The support groups are facilitated by counselors and coaches who have experience working with our special population. !

awakening wellness ITK launched Awakening Wellness to provide year round classes and workshops in the field of integrative health and medicine for families with kids with special medical needs and the greater community. These classes cover topics such as compassion based meditation, non violent communication, pediatric massage and specialized techniques for working with kids with special needs. Classes are offered at a variety of different locations in Tucson, including the Tucson Osteopathic Foundation and the Center for Expressive Arts Therapy. ITK’s educational series is designed to create an active and engaged wellness community with ongoing support and resources for every member of the ITK community.

programs smile and kindness cards Smile and Kindness Cards are hand drawn cards with positive affirmations and messages of kindness for hospitalized children, their siblings, and their parents. These cards are gifted throughout the year, especially during the holidays. Cards are hand made by our volunteers and include affirmations for good health or messages that benefit caregivers who face significant emotional challenges.

this program serves 600

fundraising events tucson butterfly gala The 6th Annual Tucson Butterfly Gala was held on Friday, January 24th, 2014 at the Skyline Country Club. The Butterfly Gala serves as ITK’s primary outreach and fundraising effort. The night involves dinner, dancing, a Top Flight auction, and live music. In addition to entertainment, ITK is able to use this night as a way to acknowledge outstanding members of our community by presenting three honorees. This year’s honorees were Ryan Romo, Zach Fenton, and the Caylor Family. At the 2014 Gala we raised more than $75,000 to help families with children with special medical needs. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!.!

chicago virtual gala The 9th Annual Chicago event, Gone with the Gown, was ITK’s second virtual Gala, held on on Saturday, November 8th, 2014. The virtual gala was an opportunity for individuals to participate with a donation and recognition in our ITK Butterfly Gala Donor Journal without having to spend time dressing up and attending a party. By hosting this virtual event, we were able to generate nearly $9,000 and put every cent we raised toward helping children with special medical needs and their families.

fundraising events music for the soul & art events Music for the Soul events are mini fundraisers and “friend-raisers” that introduce new members to ITK’s mission and community while giving everyone a chance to celebrate together. We have had events such as private piano concerts, as well as larger concerts. This year, one of our Music for the Soul events was put on by a local blue grass band, The Sonoran Dogs. These events are catered and typically involve a meet and greet with the band. All proceeds from ticket purchases go towards ITK. In addition to ticket sales, there are also art sales where local artists sell their work in order to benefit ITK.

percentage events ITK hosts percentage events throughout the year with different companies in Tucson. Some companies that we have partnered with include Chipotle, Reilly Craft Pizza & Drink, and Loop Jean Company, who put on a Trunk Show in support of ITK. Not only were these wonderful fundraising opportunities for ITK, but we were also able to promote upcoming events and programs as well. Volunteers were present to answer questions that customers had about ITK and how to support our cause.

the future of itk expansion and the wellness center ITK’s strategic plan includes continued support for each of the previously mentioned programs and additional funding to develop, open, and operate an Integrative Wellness Center in Tucson, Arizona. A local center will provide hands on therapies, weekly classes and a variety of different educational courses. It will serve as a resource and referral site for information on health and wellness in the community. ITK’s Wellness Center will be a place for children and families to receive education, attend ongoing support groups, learn about therapies, and practice new techniques and healing methods. The Wellness Center will provide services such as massage therapy, acupuncture, integrative nutrition counseling, and art, music and play therapies, to name just a few. Like all of ITK’s programs, the center will be integrated and serve individuals of all ages and abilities.
