    PRESIDENTS DESK

    Dear Friends:

It is my pleasure to present the Annual Report of Kasba Dweep Welfare Society (K.D.W.S) for the financial year 2013-2014.

In one hand it has been full of significant initiatives and approaches to build a successful Non-Governmental Organization, and on the other hand enhancing all the efforts in the field of HEALTH AND EDUCATION for the underprivileged section of WOMEN AND

    CHILDREN.

During this financial year, being the second year of operations for the organization, K.D.W.S. has made a commendable performance in the promotion of Health and Education for women and children. The spirit of the members and staffs were very high to reach the goal in this abysmal sector. K.D.W.S. has attained the credibility as a support organization in the state of West Bengal and for that I would like to give word of thanks to all the members and volunteers involved with K.D.W.S. for rendering a tremendous support. I am looking forward to their continued support in the future as well.

As you know, our organization has taken part for the development of the society and as part of our Annual Kids Day Out Program organized an excursion to the Alipore Zoo on February 16, 2014 for a group of underprivileged children for a whole day with fun and educational activities and customized worksheets for the children, creating an enjoyable learning journey. In order to develop the habit of giving selflessly to someone in need in our community, we celebrated the Joy of Giving Week from October 2, 2013 to October 8, 2013 and there was very good involvement from the community. The support and love that we received from those people were incredible and so we are highly thankful to them.

We also provided medical and financial assistance from our Medical Relief Fund to a 13-year-old underprivileged girl, Hasina Khatun, who underwent a laparoscopic cholecystectomy on January 8, 2014 which generated overwhelming support from people on Facebook who liked our page and the donors listed on our website page whose generous contributions went a long way in fulfilling this objective.

In the month of January 2014 along with other esteemed NGOs, K.D.W.S. made its presence felt at the Gangasagar pilgrimage through distribution of free packaged drinking water to hundreds of pilgrims to quench their thirst while they make their way to the holy pilgrimage.

As stated in our previous report, K.D.W.S. this year organized a free general medical and eye checkup camp exclusively for women on the eve of International Womens Day on March 8, 2014 for the weaker section of the society. This will be the first in a series of camps being held over the next couple of years. We are also planning to open a small medical health center and also vocational training centre and those centers progressively will be raised to vocational training colleges and schools in the future. We expect K.D.W.S. will grow progressively in the forthcoming years and in the long run it would become one of the leading social welfare organizations in India.

With the new perspective plan in hands, K.D.W.S has a long way to go for promoting collaborations with the Government of India in the field of health and education. I also take this opportunity to congratulate the staff of K.D.W.S who has untiringly worked towards building the organization as a dynamic and futuristic organization.

Partha Pratim Goswami President of K.D.W.S. Teacher, Philanthropist

    Description of project:

Mrs. Sahanara Bewa, 33 years old, works as a housemaid and earns a meager 2000 Rs per month and lives with her daughter, Hasina Khatun, in a rented tiny one room dingy hut in the Moral Para, Bandipur area of Khardha. Her daughter Hasina Khatun was recently diagnosed with multiple calculi in the gallbladder and needed a cholecystectomy operation, the date of which was postponed by the surgeon for a couple of months because of severe weakness and low blood counts. Unable to bear the expense of the ongoing treatment, her mother appealed to Kasba Dweep Welfare Society for help and support and raise the necessary funds. Kasba Dweep Welfare Society stepped in and helped in trying to raise funds and help them in any way possible as we believe in helping the needy and poor

by helping one person at a time. We appealed to all our generous fellow beings to come forward and donate generously and help us raise the necessary funds needed. Even the smallest of help made a huge difference to their lives and as stated by the famous Desmond Tutu Do your little bit of good where you are, its those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.

Then after a long and agonizing wait of more than four months, she was successfully operated and is now back

home with her family. As mentioned above, she was initially diagnosed with multiple calculi in the gallbladder and needed a laparoscopic cholecystectomy operation.

Finally, on January 8, 2014, she underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy successfully and is now discharged to home recuperating from the surgical procedure.

We at K.D.W.S. supported and helped the family go through hard times helping them with covering the cost to the entire medical expense from our Medical Relief Fund which has been setup exclusively for funding of specialized treatments for the poor and needy, but this would not have been possible if not for the undeniable and overwhelming support and help we got from all the people from Facebook who liked our page and the donors listed on our website page whose generous contributions went a long way in fulfilling this objective. We would also like to specially thank Goodwill Nursing Home for their medical support right from the beginning.

We have come a long way since inception of our program and the

outcomes have been extraordinary and we intend to continue with our goals of working for Women and Children Health and education with this continued support.

The kids did not feel a bit tired nor did their spirits dampen because of the bad weather. They were happy taking walks around the zoo in lines, waving their hands, swinging and seeing the chirping birds and other animals. It was wonderful to look at the animals that they had only seen in books.

The children enjoyed their breakfast and lunch saved by K.D.W.S. and finished the trip by 3:30 pm. We are really thankful and grateful to our honorable chief guest, Councilor, Shri. Sushanta Kumar Ghosh, MMIC, for his presence and blessings.

We would also like to thank all our sponsors and partners (special thanks to Rene), and Zoo administration for without whom this event would not have been possible.

Special thanks also goes out to the members of K.D.W.S. and volunteers from A Fortin Star Club without whose cooperation this event could not have seen the day of light.

Beyond a fun day out, we certainly hope that this excursion to the Alipore Zoo will inspire these children who will treasure the memories and mementos from the visit for a long time to come and nourish their minds in the classroom and beyond.
