MESSAGE FROM CENTRAL COMMITTEE
Nirmaan has travelled a long way from a small team of 10 volunteers to a large organization with 20
projects, 25 staff, 400 volunteers impacting thousands of lives each day. And it has been possible
because of a huge collective effort by every one of us. Each one of us has given it our blood and
sweat.
The first phase of Nirmaan, was of ideation and evolution of both administration and projects like
School Adoption Program, Nirmaan Scholarship Program, Vidya Helpline, Vocational Training and Self
Help groups.
Over the years, Nirmaan has evolved from a largely voluntary movement to a professional
movement with a few dedicated full time staff and hundreds of passionate soldiers. Nirmaan has
become more professional, flexible, scalable and innovative. Nirmaan has also built wonderful
grassroots innovations, exemplary social leaders and passionate volunteers.
The year 2012 has been very important especially in terms of strategic collaborations, crossing
administrative hurdles, social media outreach, multiplied social impact and sustainable leadership
development. This has been possible only due to passion and commitment of our staff, volunteers,
partners and associates.
So, we look forward to the new year of 2013 with renewed vigor and hope that it will be a
celebration of togetherness, of compassion, of integrity and inspiration and most importantly, the
celebration of the idea of making India one of the better places in the world. In this close to 8 years
journey of service to our country, Nirmaan has crossed many significant milestones which have been
mentioned in this report. We hope you get inspired by our work and join us in this movement.
We have only passion, The Rise of a Great Nation!

Gyan Bodh at Bhass village, Pilani
Gyan Bodh has shifted its base to Pilani Resource center and the idea has been well received by the
community as well. We saw an initial turn up of around 150 kids daily not just from Harinagar but from other far off
communities as well. Towards the end of the semester, we could reach out to some kids from Bhaas village as well.
Events like Kaun Kehlayega Genius (on the lines of popular TV show KBC), Spell Bee, visit of Gyan Bodh kids to
Natbasthi and Natbasthi kids to Pilani resource center etc. were among the many other remarkable events conducted
during the semester.

Computer Literacy Program (CLP) started with an objective to provide computer education
essentially with hands-on experience to every child attending the program. CLP is a weekly program
conducted every Saturday with the help of about 15 volunteers for 3 hours.

Building Renovation
Each classroom in Kothaguda high school has an average strength of about 80. One feasible solution is to
bifurcate classrooms with high strength into sections. Trouble goes severe when worms enter the classroom due to
damaged flooring.
In high school, Nirmaan identified that there are 3 rooms currently closed due to completely damaged
flooring, Nirmaan took up renovation activity with the help of SRUDO (Spandana Rural and Urban Development
Organization).

Electricity Renovation
Under the module, key priorities addressed at ZPHS-Kothaguda to facilitate sources for other Nirmaan programs are:
Basic Electricity renovation: Earthing is provided to the whole building as a precautionary measure against any accidents. The school’s electricity lines are renovated to be organized and reduce Electricity wastage.
Power Cut: CLP Activity is highly affected due to regular power cut. As a solution Nirmaan facilitated the Computer Lab with a Generator to keep Computer Classes going even in power cut.
Utensils to Midday Meal Activity
Midday meal program provided to children every day is one of the core criteria of reducing
dropout rate. Nirmaan went forward to provide vessels for Mid-Day Meals program which helps in feeding
750 students every day.
Science Lab & Library Inauguration
Nirmaan attained essential equipment and facility to avail a full-length laboratory experience to
children in general science, biology, physics and chemistry through charts and experiments. The school is
having library with minimum number of books. Keeping this in mind we provided an array of books
(Motivational, Fairy tales, biographies of great personalities etc) to the Kothaguda School.

December 3rd 2012 and is underway currently.
Vocation Skill: After completing the course, some of the trainees are able to open small business units at
home and earn money and few trainees took up jobs related to stitching. Exploration of their entrepreneur
skills: Established a stall during Joy of Giving Week and marketed their products thereby improving their
confidence levels and experiencing their first entrepreneurial activity.
Disciplined Lifestyle: The attendance system, exams, cleaning the class room by taking turns and the class

makes the trainees tolerant towards people of various sectors and mindsets.
Entreprenuer Development Center for Micro Entreprenuer Development
Entrepreneur Development Centre has been created where selected trainees work on
delivering products/services demanded & utilized in market. This internship model has been designed
keeping in mind the three prong approach of Economic Independence, Skill Enhancement and confidence
building, all of which are very essential to transform themselves into capable entrepreneurs. The pilot run
of the project has been successfully completed and the project is running in its full capacity from June
2012.
The project focuses on incubating 20-25 interns over a period of 6-8 months with a variety of skill set. The
interns are encouraged to go for marketing of the products, procurement of the raw materials, quality
check at customer site, etc. All these activities are done to give the interns a holistic picture of the business

Infrastructure: With the support of Flagstone, Nirmaan was able to procure 25 high standard sewing
machines which were necessary for the establishment of EDC. The new machines are of industrial standard
which enable the interns to increase their stitching speed and accuracy which is a must for marketable
finished goods of good quality.
Economic Impact: Interns at EDC are able to earn on an average Rs 2000 per month and the team is trying
to increase this amount up to RS 4000 per month. The interns started of earning Rs 800 per month and this
amount has gradually increased up to the current amount. The interns are able to invest this extra income
in studies of their children, infrastructure and other necessities. Our goal is to achieve economic
independence and through it social independence.

Stories of Change
One of the interns from EDC, Kushbu after working for 2 months in EDC went ahead and has
setup her own shop where she works on executing orders from local customers. She stitches different
kinds of dresses, blouses etc. She also has a small section where she sells different accessories for women
like bangles, bindis, and fashion accessories for sarees, dresses, etc. Now she is able to generate revenue of
Rs 9000 from which she is able to retain Rs 3500 per month after deducting all the costs. Now she is
planning to expand her operation into embroidery as well and has requested our support for the
procurement of an embroidery machine and we are working towards that.
4 interns who worked in EDC for a period of 3 months voluntarily came up and informed us that
they want to setup a small micro-enterprise as a group. They formed a group and are getting orders from
the market and are able to generate an income of Rs 4500 per head. They are very happy about it and are
telling us that doing this work gives them satisfaction and a sense of self-respect as they are not dependent
on anyone and they are able to invest this amount on the education of their children.
Successful execution of go green bags order for Almond House
The interns were able to successfully manufacture and deliver the go green cloth carry bags for
the famous and well known sweet outlet Almond House. It was a very crucial turning point for the team
and interns as this was very important order and upon successful execution we would get a continuous
contract of order from them. The interns were also very excited as this task required them to attain and
apply new skill of Screen printing. The team learned it very quickly and was able to complete the order on
time. The Almond House management was also impressed and satisfied with the quality of the bags and
the precision of screen printing and they informed us that the bags we made were much more superior in
quality. The management also directed all the orders towards EDC.

Shiksha Ki Ore Shiksha ki Ore, a project of 'Nirmaan-Pilani' aims to build a quality educational infrastructure
accessible to the poor kids who don’t go to school or have dropped out due to financial constraints and
motivate them to join school. We have started a school in Natbasthi, a small locality of poor farmers near
Pilani and a teacher has been appointed. The place had lost its school 3 years back and from then no kid in
the locality had gone to any school. Apart from daily school, Fun, Educational and Sports Activities are
conducted for overall development of kids and most importantly, effort is being made to admit them in
real schools...
After getting 18 of our kids admitted to Dhindwa Government School; our aim this time is to ensure that no kid
drops out. We want to help realize our kids the importance of education and keep up their motivation levels.
Our fun innovative school will continue for kids who couldn't be admitted this year and as an evening tuition
for others.
