Power Enterprise Pool – HMC
Master HMC knows • which servers are in the pool• how many mobile activations are in
the pool and where they are assigned• each server’s static resources
Pool’s HMC holds the key
• HMC needs V7.8 or later and needs at least 2GB memory• Older HMC not supported: 7042-CR4, 7310-CR3/CR4/C05/C06, 7042-C06/C07, 7315-CR3

IBM i requires a DVD on the servers somewhere … in system unit or in external I/O enclosure like 7226-1U3•If use optional system control unit DVD --- needs a PCIe USB adapter to be located either in CEC or PCIe3 IO Drawer (#EC45 or #EC46 PCIe2 4-port USB Adapter) Note: do not use a SAS adapter to control #EU13. E870/880 Racking - “Only Enterprise 42U Rack”• Only the IBM Enterprise rack (7014-T42 or #0553) have
been tested/certified by IBM Development/Test with the E870/E880 as of Oct 2014. Therefore the 7014-T42 or #0553 is the only rack IBM Manufacturing uses with E870/E880 system nodes.
• If a different rack (IBM or nonIBM) is desired, work with IBM Service organization to confirm the rack has the needed strength, rigidity, hole spacing, clearances, etc. IBM Service does not require certification by IBM Development/Test to be able to provide service/warranty in other racks.
