Annie was looking at Coco, chewing a sock. “Are you going to be a good dog?” she asked him. He barked happy. Emilio, the inventor, smiled too. He had asked Annie to keep Coco while he traveled. “Thank you Annie! I have to go now, but in this box you’ll find everything you need to take care of Coco” the inventor said. How curious she was of the big orange box! …Annie miraba a Coco, masticando una media. “¿Te vas a portar bien?” le preguntó. Él ladró feliz. Emilio, el inventor, sonrió también. Le había pedido a Annie que cuidara a Coco mientras él viajaba. “¡Gracias Annie! Me tengo que ir, pero en esta caja vas a encontrar todo lo que necesitas para cuidar a Coco” dijo el inventor. ¡Qué curiosidad tenía Annie por esa gran caja anaranjada!

“Coco, my home is your home!” she said to the pet. Then, her friends walked by. “Hello Adriana, hello Charles!” Annie greeted them. “So, Coco will stay with you for seven days! How fun!” Adriana said. “What’s in the box?” Charles asked, while dragging his toy train. “Let’s see… it’s Coco’s blanket, his rain boots, his fluorescent safety vest, his umbrella hat, and a small camera… with instructions in a paper!” Wow… …“¡Coco, mi casa es tu casa!” le dijo a la mascota. Entonces, llegaron sus amigos. “Hola Adriana, hola Charles” los saludó Annie. “¡Asi que Coco estará contigo por siete días! ¡Qué divertido!” dijo Adriana. “¿Qué hay en la caja?” preguntó Charles, mientras jalaba su tren de juguete. “Veamos… está la frazada de Coco, sus botas de lluvia, su chaleco fluorescente, su sombrero paraguas, y una pequeña cámara… ¡con instrucciones en un papel!” Wow... 3

“Read them, read the instructions, Annie!” Adriana exclaimed. “It says: This camera is for Coco. You can put it on his collar. You’ll see everything he sees” Annie read. How interesting! Coco already had a box on his collar. The inventor made that box, so when Coco ran away, he could talk and talk from his house, like a walkie talkie, and the box on the collar transmitted his voice, asking for anybody who listened, to please say where the dog was. “But how can we see the video from Coco’s camera?” asked Charles. …“¡Lée, lée las instrucciones, Annie!” exclamó Adriana. “Dice: Esta cámara es para Coco. La pueden poner en su collar. Verán todo lo que él vea” leyó Annie. ¡Qué interesante! Coco ya tenía una caja en su collar. El inventor hizo esa caja. Si Coco se escapa, él puede hablar y hablar desde su casa, como un walkie talkie, y la caja en el collar transmite su voz, pidiendo a cualquiera que oiga, que por favor le digan donde estaba el perrito. “¿Pero cómo podemos ver el video de la cámara de Coco?” preguntó Charles.

“This purple computer will make it happen!” Annie said, pulling it out of the box. “The note from the inventor explains that this screen is already connected to the camera. We just have to turn it on and watch!” Charles put the camera on Coco’s collar, and suddenly the dog decided to take off with the speed of a rocket. A rocket with four legs and a tiny camera! …“¡Con esta computadora morada!” dijo Annie, sacándola de la caja. “La nota del inventor explica que esa pantalla ya está conectada a la cámara. ¡Sólo hay que prenderla y mirar!” Charles puso la cámara en el collar de Coco, y el perro decidió salir corriendo con la velocidad de un cohete. ¡Un cohete con cuatro patas y una pequeña cámara! 5

“We can’t chase Coco without permission of my mom!” said Annie. “But we can see the video of his camera!” replied Adriana. Charles had already turned on the computer. How incredible! The screen showed flowers and trees… It was a park! They knew the place. Coco was just a block away. But what really caught their attention, was something standing on three legs. It was big and shiny green! …“¡No podemos seguir a Coco sin permiso de mi mamá!” dijo Annie.“¡Pero podemos ver el video de su cámara!” replicó Adriana. Charles ya había prendido la computadora. ¡Qué increíble! La pantalla mostraba flores y árboles… ¡Era un parque! Y lo conocían. Coco estaba a una cuadra. Pero lo que realmente les llamó la atención, fue algo con tres patas. ¡Era grande y verde brillante!

The question couldn’t wait. “Mom, can you take us to the park, please, please, please?” asked Annie. “When?” she replied. The three friends said at the same time: “Now!” and explained everything. Then, Annie, mom, her little brother, Adriana and Charles with his toy train, walked all together to the park. What an adventure! …La pregunta no podía esperar. “Mamá, ¿nos puedes llevar al parque, por favor, por favor, por favor?” preguntó Annie. “¿Cuándo?” contestó. Los tres amigos dijeron a la vez: “¡Ahora!” y explicaron todo. Entonces, Annie, mamá, su hermanito, Adriana y Charles con su tren de juguete, caminaron juntos al parque. ¡Qué aventura! 7

At the park, Coco was trying to convince the squirrels to play, until Annie grabbed him. “What is that?” Adriana said, walking towards the strangest thing she had ever seen. Annie’s mom, surprised, replied: “I think it’s a telescope… you can see the stars and planets with it… Oh, there’s a note on it. It says: This telescope is a wonderful friend, please take good care of it.” They were all so impressed, even Coco and the squirrels were quiet! …En el parque, Coco trataba de convencer a las ardillas de jugar con él, hasta que Annie lo agarró. “¿Qué es eso?” dijo Adriana, caminando hacia lo más extraño que haya visto. La mamá de Annie, con sorpresa, indicó: “Creo que es un telescopio… puedes ver las estrellas y los planetas con él… Oh, tiene una nota. Dice: Este telescopio es un amigo maravilloso, por favor cuídenlo bien”. Estaban tan impresionados, ¡hasta Coco y las ardillas estaban quietos!

Somebody had left the telescope in the park, so others could take it and use it. They brought the telescope to Annie’s home. It was dark. The sky was clear. No clouds. Lots of stars in the distance. The perfect night to try the telescope! In the sidewalk, all the eyes were ready. Neighbors and friends, waiting to see how the delicate lenses of the telescope worked. But it wasn’t easy. “I’m trying!” said Annie. “Does anyone know how this works?” Charles asked. …Alguien había dejado el telescopio en el parque, para que otros se lo lleven y lo usen. Trajeron el telescopio a casa de Annie. Estaba oscuro. El cielo claro. Sin nubes. Muchas estrellas a la distancia. ¡Noche perfecta para el telescopio! En la vereda, todos los ojos estaban listos. Vecinos y amigos, a la espera de ver cómo funcionaban los delicados lentes del telescopio. Pero, no era fácil. “¡Estoy tratando!” dijo Annie. “¿Alguien sabe cómo funciona esto?” preguntó Charles. 9

Only one voice replied: “I know! I left this telescope at the park. I had it for many years, and wanted others to enjoy it as well. It’s tricky at first, but I can teach you how to use it!” Her name was Janet, and she was an astronomer, a person who studies stars and planets in the sky. Janet moved the telescope and pointed to the moon. She adjusted some knobs and said: “Who will be the first to see the moon?” Adriana told her: “Coco, because he discovered it!” “The moon?” asked Annie’s little brother. “No, the telescope!” They all laughed. …Sólo una voz respondió. “¡Yo sé! Dejé este telescopio en el parque. Lo tuve por muchos años, y lo quería compartir. No es simple al principio, ¡pero les puedo enseñar cómo usarlo!” Ella se llamaba Janet, y era una astrónoma, una persona que estudia estrellas y planetas en el cielo. Janet movió el telescopio apuntando a la luna. Ajustó unas perillas, y dijo: “¿Quién será el primero en ver la luna?” Adriana contestó: “¡Coco, porque él hizo el descubrimiento!” “¿De la luna?” preguntó el hermanito de Annie. “¡No, del telescopio!” Todos rieron.

They drew sticks to pick the first one. Annie’s little brother won! He saw the moon, and was amazed. “Can I watch again?” he asked. “Of course, we will all keep watching!” Annie said. That day, they created the “Super Club of Astronomers.” They all enjoyed the telescope, especially when Janet showed them the seven moons of planet Jupiter. Far, far away. But still, close to home and friends! …Sacaron palitos a la suerte para elegir al primero. ¡El hermanito de Annie ganó! Vió la luna, y estaba fascinado. “¿Puedo ver de nuevo?” preguntó. “¡Por supuesto, todos vamos a ver más!” dijo Annie. Ese día, crearon el “Super Club de Astrónomos”. Estaban felices, sobre todo cuando Janet les mostró las siete lunas del planeta Júpiter. Lejos, muy lejos. Pero aún asi, ¡cerca a casa y a los amigos! 11
