SELECT HILL 'N' DALE, THREE CHIMNEYS MARES OFFERED BY FASIG-TIPTONBy BloodHorse Staff

Including the sale of three-time grade 1 winner Guarana, Three Chimneys Farm and Hill 'n'

Dale Sales Agency will dissolve a partnership by selling a select group of mares at The November Sale at Fasig-Tipton Nov. 9.

Guarana, in foal to Into Mischief and consigned by Hill 'n' Dale as Hip 182, won five of six starts and more than $1 million during her racing career in 2019-20 for Three Chimneys Farm and Hill 'n' Dale Equine Holdings. The daughter of 2004 Horse of the Year Ghostzapper burst onto the scene with a 14 3/4 length debut romp at Keeneland in April 2019 before capturing the one-mile Acorn Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park in then-stakes record time 1:33.58. The Chad Brown trainee triumphed in the Acorn by six lengths over Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Serengeti Empress.

She landed the second of three legs of the New York Filly Triple Tiara in her next start by capturing the Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) at Saratoga Race Course. She then lost for the only time when second in the

Cotillion Stakes (G1) at Parx Racing. The third grade 1 win for the

Three Chimneys homebred came last summer in the Madison Stakes (G1) at Keeneland, which followed a victorious first start of her 4-year-old season in an allowance optional claiming race at Churchill Downs. The Madison was her final race.

Guarana's dam, Magical World (Distorted Humor), also sells for the partnership as Hip 203. She is also the dam of stakes winner and

graded stakes-placed Magic Dance and recent winner Beatbox, who sold as a yearling for $2.1 million. Magical World also is in foal to Into Mischief.

Another Three Chimneys raced Acorn winner is Carina Mia, the millionaire daughter of Malibu Moon who set a then-track record for 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:15.18 in her maiden win at Keeneland in 2015. Hip 252 in The November Sale, she is in foal to Uncle Mo.

"This is a unique group of mares. All are either champions, grade 1 winners, or grade 1 producers in foal to leading sires Into Mischief and Uncle Mo," said John G. Sikura, president of Hill 'n' Dale Farms, in a release. "Deep foundational pedigrees, brilliance on the racetrack, and siblings by sires such as Curlin, Gun Runner, and Quality Road which we retained bolster these outstanding pages.

"With these retained sons and daughters, we felt the time was now to enter a vibrant marketplace with a unique group with stellar résumés. The marketplace craves special, and these mares are very special."

"Three Chimneys is a strong believer in partnerships. John and I are both buyers and sellers in the market, and we both have collectively retained significant members of the families. So in light of the extraordinary strength of the current market, we agreed to offer this group at Fasig-Tipton," added Gonçalo Torrealba, owner of Three Chimneys.

Also selling as Hip 247 is 2014 champion 2-year-old filly and that year's 14 Hands Winery Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) winner Take Charge Brandi, also in foal to Uncle Mo. The daughter of Giant's Causeway, a half sister to Omaha Beach, is out of a daughter of 2013 Broodmare of the Year Take Charge Lady.

“We’re obviously delighted to have the opportunity to sell four mares of this quality,” said Boyd Browning Jr., president of Fasig-Tipton. “All of these horses have world class pedigrees. Each of them offer unlimited potential and offer an amazing opportunity for the buyers.

"These mares will be very desirable and highly sought after by the top breeders in the world, as they should be. Three of them were grade 1 winners on the racetrack—they weren't just good runners but spectacular runners. Guarana, Carina Mia, and Take Charge Brandi.

"It's unusual to find a mare at the age of Magical

World (11) who has produced the quality of Guarana and Magic Dance, who was also an exceptional runner. (Magical World is) by one of the world's best broodmare sires in Distorted Humor. These are all things that rarely come into the market and to sell four of them of this caliber in the same consignment, same sale is extraordinary." BH

THE CHALLENGE presented by

(continued on page 10)

SIRES WHO PROVED UP TO THE 2021 CHALLENGEBy Frank Angstt @BH_FAngst

In line with the season he's having overall, Into Mischief delivered the top performance of any sire

during this year's Breeders' Cup Challenge series. With the United States portion of the Breeders'

Cup Challenge series complete and just two races remaining on the international schedule, I thought it would be a good time to look at some of the leading sires during this year's series.

Leading the way with four individual winners in this year's series is Into Mischief, who currently ranks first on the general sires list with more than $19.8 million in progeny earnings—a total more than $5.5 million ahead of second-place Ghostzapper. If he can maintain that advantage, Into Mischief would finish as leading sire for a third straight year.

The four Challenge race winners this year for Into Mischief are Mandaloun, Gamine, Ain't Easy, and Private Mission. Into Mischief will stand the 2022 season for $250,000 at Spendthrift Farm.

Mandaloun (out of Brooch by Empire Maker)

earned a spot in the Longines Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) when he was placed first in the TVG.com Haskell Stakes (G1) July 17 at Monmouth Park. At $1.65 million in earnings, Juddmonte Farms homebred Mandaloun is the leading earner so far this season for Into Mischief.

Reigning champion female sprinter Gamine (out of Peggy Jane, by Kafwain) will try to defend her 2020 Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) victory after punching her fees-paid ticket to this year's edition of the race with a victory in the Ketel One Ballerina Handicap (G1) Aug. 28 at Saratoga Race Course. Campaigned by Michael Lund Petersen, Gamine will enter the Breeders' Cup off a five-race win streak.

In her second career start, Ain't Easy (out of Ameristralia, by Fastnet Rock) secured a spot in the Juvenile Fillies (G1) when she won the Chandelier Stakes (G2) Oct. 1 at Santa Anita Park. Ain't Easy is campaigned by Old Bones Racing Stable, Michael Lombardi, and Joey Platts.

Private Mission (out of Private Gift by Unbridled) secured her third win in as many starts this season when she posted a clear victory in the Zenyatta Stakes (G2) Oct. 3 at Santa Anita. Campaigned by Baoma Corporation, the Zenyatta win earned the 3-year-old filly a fees-paid berth in the Longines Distaff (G1).

While Into Mischief was the only sire to have four individual Challenge race winners this season, he finished in a tie with Super Saver for most wins with four. All four of Super Saver's victories were supplied by leading older dirt female Letruska, who is being pointed to the Distaff. Super Saver stands in Turkey.

Sires with three individual winners this year include Kentucky-based Midshipman (Averly Jane, Special Reserve, and Succeso), the late Japan-based sire Deep Impact (Gran Alegria, Danon Kingly, and Snowfall), and Ireland-based Wootton Bassett (Zellie, Royal Patronage, and Atomic Jones). Midshipman stood the 2021 season for $7,500 at Darley and Wootton Bassett stands at Coolmore.

The two remaining Challenge races in this year's series are both Oct. 16, QIPCO Champions Day at Ascot. The Champion Stakes (G1) will award a spot in the Longines Turf (G1T) and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (G1) will award a spot in the FanDuel Mile Presented by PDJF (G1T). Breeders' Cup announced Oct. 13 that the two races had been added to the schedule. BH

SENSOR MALFUNCTION LEADS TO ADJUSTED TCA TIMEBy BloodHorse Staff

Keeneland announced Oct. 14 a revised time for the six-furlong Thoroughbred Club of

America Stakes (G2) won Oct. 9 by Lothenbach Stables' Bell's the One.

"At the start of the Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes (G2) on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021, at Keeneland, the start sensor malfunctioned," read the Keeneland statement. "As a result, the fractional time for the start to the quarter pole was not electronically timed; all other internal fractions were electronically timed. After detailed review and timing of the race, American Teletimer has determined the corrected fractional times for the Thoroughbred Club of America to be :22.25, :45.48, and :57.28 and a final time of 1:09.31. The previous final time was 1:08.63."

Trakus, a global positioning system that Keeneland utilizes to show fans where each horse is running in a race, timed the TCA in 1:09.49. There is regularly a small difference in times between GPS and teletimer systems.

An updated Equibase chart with the new times is now online.

LERNER 'CLOSING UP SHOP' ON TRAINING CAREERBy Byron Kingt @BH_Bking

Andrew Lerner said Oct. 14 he is “closing up shop” as a horse trainer to focus on other endeavors,

though he plans to remain involved in the sport as an owner.

The 32-year-old said Oct. 14 that his last starter as a trainer would come Oct. 16 when he runs Surely Spectacular in the ninth race at Santa Anita Park, a $61,000 maiden race. This week he also runs Loud Loud Music in the first race at the Southern California track Oct. 15 in a $40,000 claiming race.

His career change, first reported by Daily Racing Form’s Steve Andersen, follows what he said were altered priorities after the birth of his daughter, Kinsley, about one month ago. His focus is on her and his wife, Katie, he said.

“I did so much more than I expected in this spot as a trainer,” he recalled. “I was just gonna train for myself, have two or three horses. We ended up having 45 at one point, multiple graded stakes that we won. We’re gonna end on an 18% career note, which I think is phenomenal over a five-year period. I think we left everything on the table."

Lerner began training in 2017, winning with five of 31 starters that earned $81,785, and his stable grew to a peak in 2019 when he trained 39 winners from 156 starters that made $972,880. In December 2019, Queen Bee to You gave him his first graded stakes win in the

Bayakoa Stakes (G3) at Los Alamitos Race Course, which she followed a month later in January 2020 with a victory in the La Canada Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita.

Over his career, Lerner has 88 wins from 502 runners with earnings of more than $2.5 million.

He began notifying some owners of his desire to step away from training in recent months, and he is now down to eight horses. He thinks Loud Loud Music could be claimed Friday as one of the race favorites, and plans are being finalized for many of his others to go to other trainers.

One of his more talented runners, John DeMaio and Eric Homme’s Il Capitano, a 2-year-old maiden winner at Del Mar who ran 10th in the Zuma Beach Stakes at Santa Anita Oct. 3, will now be trained by Simon Callaghan, Lerner said.

Going forward, Lerner intends to focus on Your Fan Zone, a technology company he chairs, and pursue commercial real estate in the Midwest, which he did before diving into horse racing, first as an owner and then as a trainer.

He mentioned he might partner on the racetrack with owners Bill Strauss, who he calls a lifelong friend, and National Hockey League star Erik Johnson, who races as ERJ Racing.

He left open the possibility he could resume training.“I can always come out of retirement. Michael Jordan

did,” he said with a laugh. BHs Share this storyQueen Bee to You wins the 2019 Bayakoa Stakes at Los Alamitos

THE CRITICAL WAY, WIND OF CHANGE DQ'D FROM N.J. WINSBy BloodHorse Staff

Two stakes winners at Monmouth Park this summer have been disqualified for medication infractions,

according to rulings published Oct. 14 on the Association of Racing Commissioners International website.

The Critical Way, one of the top grass sprinters in the Mid-Atlantic, was demoted from victory in the June 19 Get Serious Stakes at Monmouth after test results showed the presence of levamisole. Stewards there fined trainer Jose Delgado $500 and issued him a 15-day suspension from Oct. 11-25.

The other disqualified stakes winner, Daniel Alonso's Wind of Change, was sanctioned after tests showed the presence of aminocaproic acid after the horse won the Mr. Prospector Stakes at 2-1 odds at Monmouth May 29. Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. was fined $1,000 but not suspended.

The ruling stated he was "hereby disqualified from sharing in the purse from May 29, 2021. The Horseman's Bookkeeper is hereby ordered to redistribute the purse monies from the 9th race on May 29, 2021, accordingly."

Aminocaproic acid, sold as Amicar, has been used by horsemen as an adjunct bleeder medication. It is a Class 4 drug that calls for a Class C penalty on the ARCI's Uniform Classification Guideline of Foreign Substances and Recommended Penalties.

The Critical Way, odds on in the Get Serious, crossed the wire three lengths in front, speeding five furlongs on turf in :55.19. He has since won two more stakes, including

the Parx Dash Stakes (G3T) at Parx Racing Aug. 31.Monmouth stewards placed The Critical Way last

of seven and ordered the purse redistributed. The disqualification cost owner Monster Racing Stables the $45,000 first-place share of the purse.

Levamisole, a Class 2 drug with Category B penalties under ARCI guidelines, is found in dewormers typically used for cattle, and other types of animals. The drug can metabolize to the stimulant aminorex.

Another turf sprinter, King Star's Hollywood Talent, the Juan Vazquez trainee who posted a 108-1 upset in the Sept. 25 Turf Monster Stakes (G3T) at Parx Racing, tested positive for levamisole in an initial test following that race, according to a Thursday Paulick Report story.

Paulick Report indicated a split sample has yet to be tested. If the drug's presence is confirmed, a hearing that could result in penalties will be scheduled.

Monmouth Park stewards also suspended Delgado 15 days and fined him $500 for another infraction when Carole Star Stables' Glory Roll tested positive for phenylbutazone (bute) after running fifth in a race at Monmouth June 13. Glory Roll was demoted to last of six. The trainer was suspended from Sept. 26-Oct. 10 for that infraction.

The sanctions to Delgado were among a group of rulings published by ARCI Thursday.

Monmouth stewards further issued trainer Douglas Nunn a 15-day suspension from Oct. 16-30 and fined him $500 after test results showed the presence of flunixin in the post-race sample of Winner Circle Stables' Team Effort in a $16,000 claiming race there May 31. Stewards disqualified the horse from his runner-up finish and placed him sixth. BH

CAMPANELLE REGROUPS IN FRANKLIN COUNTY AT KEENELANDBy BloodHorse Staff

Stonestreet Stables' Campanelle, a two-time group 1 winner in Europe, heads a field of 12 fillies and

mares for the 25th running of the $150,000 Buffalo Trace Franklin County Stakes (G3T) going 5 1/2 furlongs on turf at Keeneland Oct. 15.

Trained by Wesley Ward, Campanelle will be making her first start since being unplaced in the Larc Prix Maurice de Gheest (G1) at Deauville in August. Anxious in the starting gate, she hopped at the break and raced keenly while attempting to catch up. She faded to run last of 12 under Frankie Dettori.

Previous excursions to Europe resulted in victories in the Queen Mary Stakes (G2) and Darley Prix Morny (G1) at age 2, and the Commonwealth Cup (G1) this year at 3 upon the disqualification of Dragon Symbol for interference.

Just two of six starts for the U.S.-based filly have come in the states—a debut score at Gulfstream Park and a fourth-place finish in last fall's Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1T) at Keeneland over a two-turn mile. Except for the Breeders' Cup, her races have come in sprints.

Joel Rosario will have the mount Friday on the 7-2 morning-line favorite, a daughter of Kodiac.

Also figuring to attract interest are the 1-2 finishers from last month's Mint Ladies Sprint (G3T) at Kentucky Downs: In Good Spirits and Catch a Bid.

Bal Mar Equine's In Good Spirits (Ghostzapper), trained by Al Stall Jr., scored a two-length victory at Kentucky Downs and in the race prior to that was runner-up in the Caress Stakes (G3T) at Saratoga Race Course in July. John

Velazquez has the mount on In Good Spirits.Highlander Training Center's Catch a Bid (Real

Solution), trained by Joe Sharp, won the West Virginia Senate President's Cup Stakes at Mountaineer Racetrack Casino & Resort in August prior to her Kentucky Downs race. She will be ridden by Tyler Gaffalione.

In Good Spirits and Catch a Bid are 9-2 and 5-1 odds on the morning line, respectively.

Perry Harrison's Change of Control, second choice at 4-1, will look to rebound from a dull showing when 10th against males in the Sept. 18 Ricoh Woodbine Mile Stakes (G1T) in Canada.

A model of consistency in sprints, she has won or placed in 11 stakes. In her signature victories, she scored in the Mamzelle Overnight Stakes at age 3 and added the Giant's Causeway Stakes and Intercontinental Stakes (G3T) this year at 5. The Giant's Causeway came over yielding turf at Keeneland in the spring.

Colby Hernandez rides the daughter of Fed Biz from the outside post for trainer Michelle Lovell.

Ambassador Luna, Campanelle, Elle Z, and Yes It's Ginger are the race's projected front-runners.

Jim and Susan Hill's black-type winner Lead Guitar is also of interest. The daughter of Maclean's Music comes in off a runner-up finish in the Aug. 21 Smart N Fancy Stakes going 5 1/2 furlongs on the Saratoga lawn for trainer George Weaver and won four in a row last year in New York, capped by back-to-back scores at Belmont in the Floral Park Stakes at Autumn Days Stakes.

"We had a lot of success at Belmont, she went on a pretty good run in New York in the fall last year, but the one thing that's missing on her resume is graded black type or a graded stakes win," Weaver said. "It kind of felt like running in New York, we've been there and done that, and we wanted to give the filly a chance to put another notch on her resume."

The Buffalo Trace Franklin County is the ninth race on Friday's 10-race program with a 5:16 p.m. ET post time. BH

SLIPSTREAM TO TARGET BREEDERS' CUP JUVENILE TURFBy Bob Ehaltt @BobEhalt

While Slipstream earned a free spot in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G2T)

through winning the six-furlong Futurity Stakes (G3T) at Belmont Park, his path to the winner's circle at the World Championships will most likely run through the longer Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G1T) Nov. 5 at Del Mar.

Trainer Christophe Clement said stretching out to a two-turn mile for the Juvenile Turf will be a better option for the son of More Than Ready as opposed to cutting back to the five-furlong distance of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint.

In the Futurity, Jump Sucker Stable's Slipstream rallied from last in the field of eight 2-year-olds to prevail by a length in a listed time of 1:08.36 over firm turf.

"He was impressive in the Futurity but I would love to see him go a mile," Clement said.

Under the Breeders' Cup's "Win and You're In" conditions for the Futurity, which includes travel expenses to Del Mar and entry fees as well as a guaranteed spot in the Juvenile Turf Sprint for the winner, Slipstream's connections cannot transfer his guaranteed spot to the Juvenile Turf. Yet with four qualifying points, he should be able to land a spot in the starting gate for the mile turf test, even if the race is oversubscribed.

Slipstream's connections can, however, use the travel bonus to ship to Del Mar and they can also apply a credit from the value of the nomination fees for the Juvenile Turf Sprint to the charges for running in the Juvenile Turf. Since the fees for entering and running in the $1 million Juvenile Turf Sprint and $1 million Juvenile Turf are an identical $30,000, there will be no additional costs if they run in the Juvenile Turf.

Slipstream, bought for $170,000 by Northshore Bloodstock, agent, from the Burleson Farms consignment at the 2020 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, has won two of four career starts with earnings of $147,600.

The dark bay 2-year-old is one of four probable Breeders' Cup starters for Clement, joining Gufo in the Longines Breeders' Cup Turf (G1T), Natalma Stakes (G1T) runner-up Pizza Bianca in the Breeders' Cup

Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1T), and Woodbine Cares Stakes winner Derrynane in the Juvenile Turf Sprint.

Multiple grade 1 winner Gufo, who locked up a free spot in the Turf through winning the Resorts World Casino Sword Dancer Stakes (G1T) at Saratoga Race Course, tired in the stretch and finished third as the 9-5 favorite in the Oct. 9 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic (G1T). But Clement said he was pleased with the way the 4-year-old son of Declaration of War has bounced back from that loss and is targeting the $4 million Turf at a 1 1/2-mile distance.

"Gufo is doing quite well now," he said.Clement will be searching for his initial Breeders'

Cup victory during the World Championships' Nov. 5-6 stay at Del Mar. He has six seconds and six thirds from a total of 40 starters and has compiled earnings of $4,503,945 in the series. BH

DIAMOND WOW POSSIBLE FOR BREEDERS' CUPBy BloodHorse Staff

Diamond Wow, a valiant runner-up in the Oct. 13 JPMorgan Chase Jessamine Stakes (G2T) at

Keeneland, is a possibility for the Nov. 5 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1T), said trainer Patrick Biancone the morning of Oct. 14.

Although the daughter of Lookin At Lucky came up just a head short of winning an automatic and fees-paid berth into the Juvenile Fillies Turf Wednesday, she proved herself to be a prime Breeders' Cup candidate.

"It's a possibility. She's going to come back home Saturday, and we'll decide from there," said Biancone, whose stable is based at Palm Meadows, Gulfstream Park's satellite training facility in Palm Beach County. "We don't want to force her. If she's really well, we may go."

Biancone's daughter and assistant, Andie, who accompanied Diamond Wow to Keeneland and saddled the daughter of Lookin At Lucky, was pleased with the manner in which she exited the 1 1/16-mile turf event.

"She said she came out good," Biancone said. "She took the race well."

Scratched out of the Oct. 8 Darley Alcibiades Stakes (G1) at Keeneland after drawing the No. 11 post position, Diamond Wow—as (bad) luck would have it—drew the far-outside No 14 post for the Jessamine.

Diamond Wow rated off the early pace while racing four-wide before kicking in through the stretch to gain a narrow lead over odds-on pacesetter Turnerloose nearing the wire, only to be caught by wide and charging California Angel.

"(She ran) around the ducks, like in the morning," Biancone quipped.

Diamond Oops went into the Jessamine undefeated in two starts at Gulfstream Park, where she scored a three-length debut victory in a five-furlong turf race Aug. 28 before scoring a 1 3/4-length triumph in the off-the-turf Our Dear Peggy Stakes at seven furlongs Sept. 18.

"To be honest with you, in that family, the good ones come to form early. The mother was like that—she won a stakes as a 2-year-old. Diamond Oops, the brother, won at 2," Biancone said. "I know she's going to improve. She's naturally and extremely talented. She's a very, very good filly."

Diamond Wow, who is owned by Diamond 100 Racing Club, Amy Dunne, and Biancone, is out of Patriotic Diamond, a daughter of Hat Trick who broke her maiden in the Generous Portion Stakes at Del Mar in her second career start. Patriotic Diamond is a half sister to Biancone-trained Diamond Oops, a multiple graded stakes winner with more than $1.3 million in earnings. BH

HEGARTY BLOODSTOCK SCORES PINHOOKING SUCCESS IN BOOK 3By James Thomas/Racing Post

Another day, another monster pinhooking result at Tattersalls. That was the story when the

October Yearling Sale moved into Book 3 Oct. 14 as Hegarty Bloodstock, the operation run as a 'hobby' by David and Geraldine Hegarty, pulled off a trading masterstroke.

Galley Flash Bloodstock signed for the Ulysses colt out of Regal Heiress at a mere 4,000 guineas (US$5,621) at last year's December Foal Sale, but the Hegartys reaped an almighty windfall when Matt Coleman landed the youngster on a bid of 150,000 guineas ($214,247)—a shade over 37 times the initial outlay.

A stunned David Hegarty, who named the syndicate after the Galley Flash lighthouse he could see from his childhood bedroom window, chose to keep his own counsel in the immediate aftermath, but Trickledown Stud's Paul Thorman, a partner in the 4,000 guineas foal, explained the backstory to the jaw-dropping pinhooking result.

He said: "This particular colt was in our draft as a foal and had gone through a rough patch and didn't

look at his best. I wanted to sell him but both David and Sara (Thorman) could see there was scope there, although we never imagined for a millisecond that he'd make that much."

The colt is a brother to smart 2-year-old Gwan So, who was last seen finishing third in the Flying Scotsman Stakes, while Ulysses' 11 first-crop winners did the youngster's claims no harm. But Thorman was adamant the key component of the colt's development was the Hegartys' horsemanship.

"Everything worked out and he turned into the most stunning yearling," he said. "I don't know about David's eye for a horse but he's certainly got a talent for prepping them.

"His horses aren't 100%, they're 110%. When you have the ability and the effort to do it with a moderate horse, you just hope he can do it again and I hope this gives David the scope to start buying foals that are worth buying instead of messing about with rubbish!"

The Hegartys, who have two young children, operate out of a small farm in the Wickhambrook area, while David, a nominee for this year's Godolphin Stud and Stable Staff Awards, is a key member of the team at Michael Swinburn's Genesis Green Stud.

Expanding on how the association with the Hegartys began, Thorman said: "David once bought a foal off me that would have made a corkscrew look straight. When it came back as a yearling it was still a corkscrew, but it looked unbelievable.

"I thought here's a lad paying buttons for foals and turning them out brilliantly and getting nowhere, so I said we'll buy a few foals together. We've been relatively lucky but mainly because David is seriously gifted and he and Geraldine work unbelievably hard."

Coleman, who signed in conjunction with Sean Clancy, said the six-figure colt would head into training in Newmarket with Charlie Fellowes for Mathis Stables, the owner behind the trainer's Sept. 4 Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day Sirenia Stakes scorer Eve Lodge.

"I bought him for an owner called Bill Mathis, an American client of mine and Sean Clancy's," said Coleman. "Eve Lodge was the first horse I bought for him and she won the Sirenia Stakes. Bill was keen to try to get some yearlings and he bought a couple of shares in fillies at the Orby and Book 1.

"We said we'd try to find a couple of colts too. We

found Book 2 very strong so we thought we'd keep going into Book 3. I thought this was the best colt here, and obviously he's a full brother to Gwan So, who ran well in the Champagne Stakes and has been sold to Annabel Neasham in Australia.

"This colt is one I could see running here before going to the States."

Barberini Goes for GoldAs evening set in at Park Paddocks a son of Havana

Gold was in the silver medal spot after Federico Barberini landed Lodge Park Stud's half brother to three

black-type performers at 92,000 guineas ($131,404)."He's a smashing horse by a sire who has done

incredibly well this season," said Barberini, whose purchase was made on behalf of an undisclosed client. "He's a real 2-year-old type, a great mover with great athleticism. A trainer will be decided at a later date, but it's likely that he'll be trained in Newmarket."

The colt is out of Storybook, a UAE-bred daughter of Halling whose five winners include the graded stakes performers Get On the Bus, Camp Courage, and Romeo Lima. Her 2-year-old son Chicago Soldier has been placed twice for Johnny Murtagh.

"There are no certainties in this game but the mare has already done it a few times, the 2-year-old is useful too, so to me it made a lot of sense," added Barberini.

"The market has been tough all week, and the previous week too. I think, overall, this horse is not expensive at this price. He sticks out a bit in Book 3 but he wouldn't have been out of place in Book 2. He comes from a very good nursery who have bred a lot of good horses."

The Hegartys were not the only pinhookers in clover during Thursday's session, as Harry Dutfield saw the Havana Grey filly he bought for 25,000 guineas ($35,131) sell to Richard Brown of Blandford Bloodstock at 82,000 guineas ($117,121). The filly is set to go into training with David Simcock.

"It's a relief more than anything," said Dutfield, whose day job is with Hazel Bloodstock. "I work as a stud hand and it's easy to forget that 25,000 guineas is a year's salary. It's very easy to bid away when you're buying, but when it's a year's worth of sweat and toil on the line, it just makes it so nice when you get a result like this."

"I have to have already thought about what sale they could go to next year, what the horse could make as a yearling and what ends up leaving a profitable margin. I valued her at more than what I paid and that's the whole idea of pinhooking, you have to buy value."

The concept of value also figures prominently in the grand plans Dutfield has in place for his latest pinhooking windfall. He said: "I bought a house in Newmarket after a couple of good pinhooks and after a bit more success I've been able to buy my own farm that's just past Shadwell.

"I'm looking forward to having all my stock together with me in one place. I want to offer a service of value, some prices are astronomical but I want to give people like myself a chance to have a go and not have it cost the earth."

On the filly, a half sister to the smart Rathbone and out of a sibling to Showcasing, Dutfield said: "She just floated when she was showing, she was so straightforward. She's always been a bit of a beefy filly, not very tall but with loads of strength and scope. I loved her and she's been a great filly to do. All the right people came and looked at

her, we had a couple of vets, it all went to plan."Dutfield, who has worked for the likes of John Troy

and Kildaragh Stud, also paid tribute to his bosses at Hazelwood Bloodstock, who allowed him to prep his three yearlings at their farm.

"I was meant to help out at Hazelwood only during the breeding season but I went from part-time to full-time and Adrian and Philippa O'Brien are great to work for.

"They very kindly left me at the farm to do my own horses rather than showing at Book 1, which is much appreciated. They're such nice people to work for and do a very thorough job. I think their results speak for themselves."

The successful purchaser said: "We've been very impressed with the Havana Greys that we've seen so far. She looked very forward, very sharp and mature. It's a speedy Juddmonte family and I would say she's the sort of filly who'll be out early next year.

"She's going to David Simcock for an owner who's got a few mares. The brief was to buy a filly with a page and we've been blown out for two weeks, but I absolutely loved this filly."

Book 3 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale concludes Oct. 15 with a session starting at 10 a.m.

LEADING LIGHT TO STAND 2022 SEASON AT DUNRAVEN STUDBy Kitty Trice/Racing Post

Leading Light, a classic-winning son of Montjeu and promising young National Hunt

sire, has been purchased by Dunraven Stud from Coolmore and will stand in South Wales for the 2022 breeding season.

Leading Light got off the mark on his second start at 2 for Aidan O'Brien and the Coolmore partners, going on to win the Airlie Stud Gallinule Stakes (G3) and Queen's Vase (G3) at Royal Ascot at 3.

He then beat Talent by a length and a quarter in the Ladbrokes St. Leger (G1) at Doncaster to extend his winning sequence to five, before finishing mid-division behind Treve in the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (G1).

Leading Light returned at 4 to win the Coolmore Vintage Crop Stakes (G3) on his reappearance and followed that up with another successful raid on Royal Ascot, digging deep to deny Missunited in the Gold Cup (G1).

The bay also won the Palmerstown House Estate Irish St. Leger Trial (G3) before finishing second to Brown Panther in the Palmerstown House Estate Irish St. Leger (G1) itself. He signed off his hugely successful career by finishing seventh in the QIPCO British Champions Long Distance Cup (G2) on Champions Day.

Bred by Lynch-Bages and a 520,000 guineas (US$845,700) purchase by Demi O'Byrne from Glenvale Stud at the 2011 Tattersalls Book 1, Leading Light was retired to Grange Stud for the 2015 season at a fee of €4,500.

His first crop of 4-year-olds include recent Punchestown handicap hurdle winner Christmas Jumper and dual hurdles scorer Light Brigade and Limestone Rock. He also has a large number of 3- and 4-year-olds coming on stream as well.

David Brace OBE, owner of Dunraven Stud, said: "I've always been a huge fan of Montjeu, both on the racecourse and as a sire, and once I was alerted to the possibility that Leading Light might be available for purchase, I knew I had to act quickly.

"This was a rare opportunity to purchase a top-class stallion who is already, from his early crops, producing winners who look likely to become black-type performers.

"I've a great relationship with the team at Coolmore and once again I must thank them for this opportunity. I've been greatly encouraged by the reports from trainers and agents as to his progeny and I really believe that he will produce many top-class racehorses

in the coming few years."He continued: "He was a tough and sound

racehorse, had the quality to win twice in group 1 company, including a Classic, was by one of the outstanding stallions of his generation and also has the looks to go with it—what more could you want in a stallion?

"With his arrival, Ask and Mountain High have been relocated. I'm delighted that Ask has been purchased to stand at Stuart Ross' Willow Wood Stud in Cheshire in a deal brokered by new online auction house ThoroughBid, whilst Mountain High will remain locally."

Leading Light is the sixth foal out of the Gone West mare Dance Parade, winner of the Queen Mary Stakes (G3) and Dubai Duty Free Fred Darling Stakes (G3), and a full brother to Pertemps Network Swinton Handicap Hurdle winner John Constable, among seven winners.

He will stand for a fee of £2,500 (US$3,420), although discounts will be available for established clients, and to black-type and multiple mares. The Bridgend-based stud plans to hold an inspection before Christmas to allow existing and potential customers to view Leading Light.
