Ancient Athens Government

Slaves,women,children were not aloud to vote.

Foreigners are not citizens so they are not allowed to vote.

Only men that own land are allowed to vote.

Only free adult men that are born from two adult athenians are considered a citizen.

Only 20%of the population or athens were citizens.

Every citizen were required to participate or suffer punishment.

500 names were drawn from all the land owning men, then they were selected to help make laws all year long ,this was their job for the rest of the year.

In the end democracy existed only for the free men who were originally from Athens.

Only free adult men enjoyed the rights and responsibility of citizenship.

United States Government

In the united states people can vote if they are 18 or older.

You are aloud to vote but have to be 35 or older to be able to be elected president.

If people were born in a different country they could run for governor.

In 1789 only 6% of the population can vote.

In 1790 only white men were allowed to vote.

1870 the constitution denied voting based on race.

In 1920 on the 19th Amendment gives the right to all women, age 21 and older are allowed to vote.

In 1965 Dr.Martin Luther King Jr made a speech so African American males could vote too.

In 1971 minimum voting age is 18 only.

Athens Government

Athenian women,slaves and foreigners can not vote,but in the U.S all citizens can vote if they are 18 or older.

In 1789 U.S only 6%can vote, but in athen all men have to vote.

In the U.S if people are born in a different country they can vote for governor,but in Athens only Athenians can vote.

In both Athens and U.S men can vote.

They are both democracies so they both can vote.

Both Athens and U.S had to vote once.

In Athen 500 names were picked to see who could make a laws but in the U.S people had to vote to see who could make the laws.
