Update from Noora (Exchange student from Finland 2009-10) Dear Rotarians,
I am just starting my third year in the university, studying food sciences and soon half way through
my studies. Although I am almost done with my bachelor's degree I am still not very close to
finishing. Here in Finland most employers want to hire only people with Master's degrees so just
like most students, also I will continue straight to do my Master's. I am quite enjoying my studies
and in a way I am happy i get to be a student still for couple of years. I have been thinking of doing
another exchange next year or so but I have trouble deciding which country to choose. Somehow it
seems that when I was applying for an exchange to Australia it was easier to choose! Now there
seems to be so many interesting options! Maybe I will go to South America to work on my poor
Spanish :)
During my studies I am still working part time in the same hotel as I did before. Last summer I was
also working for the first time on my own area of study as I worked in an industrial bakery. It was
nice to see how the industry works even if the duties I had as a production worker were not so
interesting.
I believe the last time I wrote to you I was still experiencing some health problems. Nowadays they
are luckily gone! I was not able to do any exercising for a couple of years since my body was so
overloaded. I am again back on with my running and yoga, which feels great! Also I have done
quite a lot of travelling this year - I have been to Thailand,
Vietnam, Germany, Japan, Montenegro and Croatia. My mother regrets letting me go to Australia
in the first place since I am never home these days.
I am quite missing Australia (is it nearly 5 years since I last visitedyou?!) and I hope to find time
among the other trips to come and see Katanning again soon.
Love,
Noora
