Abortion advocates usually refer to the human being
growing in her/his mother's womb in dehumanizing terms like "product of conception" and suggest that
most abortions are done before fetal organs are func-
tioning. Actually, the vast majority are done after the fetal
heart has begun beating. A baby's heart begins to beat at about 21 or 22 days after fertilization. That's at
about 3 weeks of development. The vast majority of abortions in the United States are done well after this
point.
The annual Catholic Charities Financial Drive is
September 29–30, 2018. An envelope will be
located in the pews this coming week. A
presentation will be made on the weekend of
the 30th of September.
Adult Education Classes coming soon to St. Jude’s! Open to all!
From its inception the Church founded by Jesus has had its share of problems. Major renewals and reforms dot the landscape of our Church’s history. Sometimes the Holy Spirit just needs to do some housecleaning to get the Church back on track. Remember Martin Luther and The Reformation? The thing is, even though Jesus is our foundation, we the Church are fallible humans and we mess up. Come join us beginning September 23 at 7 p.m. at St. Jude’s for The Reformations. This is a 12-week course presented by Dr. Christopher Belitto, Ph.D., in DVD and discussion format. Cost of the course is $10. Bring your friends and neighbors! In this course we will learn about Church reforms before Luther, about challenges that have arisen regarding Church authority in society, about a time in Church history when there were three popes deciding who was the real one! Let us be encouraged by the workings of the Holy Spirit who leads the charge, carrying the battering ram against the gates of hell and the Evil One who is bent on destroying Christ’s Bride, his beloved Catholic Church. If you have any questions or would like to state your intent to attend this class, please text Bea Berg at 701-213-2028, or email Mary Franklund or Bea at [email protected] or [email protected].
Adoration and Confession will be available this Wednesday , Sept
26 from 6:30 to 8:30pm at OLPH. All are invited to stop in for pray-
er or confession during this time. This will occur again Oct
24 and Nov 28.
Fr John will be away next week from Sunday even-ing to Thursday morning
for the annual priest meeting in Jamestown.

Do you have any Halloween costumes that you don't want anymore that could be worn by our residents? We would
happily take donations! You can bring them to the front desk at St. Anne's for Paulla, our activity director.
We're hoping to give our folks a chance to have some
fun dressing up for Halloween.
Discipleship turns our modern value system on its head. Yet we, like the disciples, have difficulty seeing that. We continue to debate popularity, count Twitter followers and
Facebook friends, and admire those with power and authority. But in today’s gospel we are reminded to consider those who have little standing in the world. The parent’s love for a child is a true reflection of Christian love and service. The parent does not count the cost of late nights, extra food on the table, additional expenses, or the anxiety that can naturally come with a child. Instead, motivated by love, the parent moves beyond oneself to care for another. We are called by Jesus to behave in like manner
to others. We do not treat them as children, but we are to serve without counting the cost, to give without expecting anything in return.
CWO Cookies for Beet Harvest If you like to bake, please make some cookies and package them 3 to a bag. You may bring them to OLPH church kitchen until Oct 4th. There are labels, with a message for a safe harvest, for you to attach to your bags and then place the bags in the freezer. Thank you.
Please remember in
your prayers the men
who have started their
studies for the Priest-hood of Jesus Christ for
the Diocese of Fargo.
