My poster for the album of my artist conforms to the occurring theme of 'art' being the structure of indie rock albums etc. Because of 'art form' being a convention of the indie rock genre, audiences familiar with the genre will immediately recognise that my artist is an indie rock artist.

The structure of the advertisement is ‘masculine’, appealing more to a male audience with the filter ‘torn edges’ being a prominent feature that young people enjoy (17-27). The colour scheme of black/white/blue also aims at a male audience, stereotypically. However, the title itself will act as the main feature to attracting female individuals.

As the text is situated behind the main image, it suggests that the artist is well known universally, or at least in the area advertisement occurs. Because of this, there is little text included, as the ‘sell point’ will be the image and stage name; all that is needed for an established artist to gain fans.

DIGIPAKThe mise en scene included in the digipak helps establish that the artist creates music (simply showing that it is part of the music category).

However, a guitar is also heavily associated with indie rock artists, so the inclusion of the guitar itself symbolises the genre of the CD cover without the need for lexis to establish what genre the singer makes.

The font and style of the digipak is stereotypically associated with terms lie ‘hip’, ‘young’ etc so it naturally targets a younger generation of 17-27 year old’s. This is due to other similar products using this type of style; I chose to imitate their style to appeal to my target audience, hence the use of the filter ‘torn edges’ and bold font.

The background includes houses, giving the digipak an urban edge. I used this to give a subtle hint of the album being a target of a slightly more niche audience as urban is less of a mainstream genre of music.

COMPARISONI purposely kept the same style of font and filter so a correlation between the two could easily be made. It also allows for a specific audience to be targeted instead of different products (each having different styles and structures) aiming at different audiences. Because of this, the ‘hard sell’ is more effective because a target audience is made clear; people don’t get confused.

However, since my analysis of both products are only based on stereotypical norms, it is unclear if only males will buy this album. Nowadays, the style is less likely to put off women/girls because music has become more unisex (girls listen to rap, boys listen to pop).

Because my target audience is 17-27, I have used a young ‘model’ as its more probably that he will be more successful in attracting the target audience then a more, mature person. Because he is male, the reach is much wider; boys want to be him, girls want to be with him.

This is not the same if a girl was used as males are put off. This is an exception of a few female artists such as Rihanna- who has established herself as a serious hip-hop style artist- and those who are part of the rap/RnB genre etc.
