Page 2: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Egypt is one of the worlds

oldest civilizations.

Page 3: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Some Egyptian art is over 5000 years old!

Egyptians also showed everyday life, like farming and hunting.

They loved using bright and strong

• Ancient Egyptian architects used sun-dried and kiln-baked bricks, fine sandstone, limestone and granite. Architects carefully planned all their work so the stones had to fit precisely together.

Page 13: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

The 1st pyramid they designed had steps.

Page 14: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Later, Egyptians learned to cover these steps to create smooth pyramids.

Page 15: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

The Great Pyramids at Giza are almost 5000 years old!

Page 16: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

They were the tallest man made structures on earth for over 4000 years!

Page 17: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

The pyramids are where the Kings were buried.

The Sphinx has a lion’s body and a human head.

King Tutankhamen is maybe the most famous

of all Pharaohs.

Page 24: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

He is known as the boy king, he was 10

years old when he

ruled Egypt.

Page 25: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01
Page 26: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Tut was only 19 when he died.

Page 27: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

One reason he is so famous is that his grave had not been

robbed. The royal art was still buried with him when he was

discovered.

Page 28: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Many times graves are found empty or ruined by time and weather.

Page 29: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

These treasures included precious

stones and gold.

Page 30: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Scientist have recreated what King Tut would have looked like

using x-ray scans.

This is King Tut

revealed!

Page 33: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Nefertiti was said to be one of the most beautiful women who ever lived.

Page 34: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

She was King Tut’s

stepmother.

Page 35: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Egyptians wrapped

their dead with

bandages to

preserve them.

Page 36: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Mummies were preserved for thousands of years.

Page 37: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01
Page 38: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Their insides were taken out and stored in special containers called canopic jars.

Page 39: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01
Page 40: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Every King had 4 jars.

Page 41: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Egyptians also made their cats

into mummies!

Page 42: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01
Page 43: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Egyptians wanted their pets with them in the afterlife.

Page 44: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Pharaohs were buried with the Eye of Horus to protect them.

Page 45: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Horus was an Egyptian God who was said

to have powers to stop grave robbers.

Page 46: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01
Page 47: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Sometimes he is a falcon.

Page 48: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Sometimes he is

wearing the crown of a Pharaoh.

Page 49: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Other times he is half man half

falcon.

Page 50: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01
Page 51: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Egyptians believed in many gods.

Most of them looked like animals and humans combined.

Page 52: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Anubis was a dog.

Page 53: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

But he could also be half

man.

Page 54: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01
Page 55: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Ammit was part lion,

part hippo, and part

alligator.

Page 56: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Egyptians believed that Anubis and Ammit would judge you after you died to see if you made it into heaven. They would put you on a scale and feathers on the other side. If you told a lie your heart would be heavy. If you lived a

good honest life your soul would be as light as the feathers and you would go

to heaven.

Page 57: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01
Page 58: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

If you were heavier than the feathers Ammit would gobble

you up.

Page 59: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Scarab beetles were thought to have magical powers. They pushed the sun up into the sky

every morning.

Page 60: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01
Page 61: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Page 63: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Egyptians wrote in a picture

language called hieroglyphics.

Page 64: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01
Page 65: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Egyptians wrote on a type of paper made from the plant called “papyrus”.

Page 66: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

For many years no one knew how to read

hieroglyphics, until one day the Rosetta Stone

was discovered.

Page 67: ancientegyptsarttreasures-140424085614-phpapp01

Egypt left a lasting legacy its art and architecture has influenced art

throughout the world.
