President’s Message

The holiday season is now upon us, and if you're anything like most folks your to-do lists are about as long as possible. Holidays - the to-be-finished list is now fairly long, but I am going to make sure that in the midst of all of the projects that I will find time to let my creative energies flow and I hope that you all can do the same! Sometimes it is hard to give yourself permission to turn off the ‘shoulds’ of everyday life while allowing yourself time to enjoy the creative process. I'm sure that it isn't just me who needs to find more studio time; as a longarm quilter the demands on my available time to finish customer quilts reach their peak at this time of the year, and seem to increase every year...but that might ‘just’ be my age showing! I'm also looking forward to our annual Christmas social time, and I know that your program ladies have made a very special effort to make it an enjoyable time for us all. It will give us all some time to socialize and kick off the festive season in style! I hope that all of your holiday activities are happy and healthy, and that you get to spend quality time with your loved ones, and Best Wishes for a happy and healthy 2019! Workshops and UFO Dates Wow! How time flies! It seems like Halloween was only yesterday and now it’s Christmas time. There is no UFO workshop this month. Mary Lou and I would like to thank all of you for your support in October and November. We’ve seen some beautiful Whirligig quilts and I know some of you have made more! Well done! The candy wrapper block was beautiful. You girls took the block and made your own unique runners. I hope some Whirligig quilts and runners will be seen at show and tell this month. Our next UFO is set for January 18 and 19. Be ready for our surprise Demo with Leslie Drake. Have a great Christmas and join us in January to start working on all the UFO’S and learning new techniques from our members not to mention the fun and friendship. Remember the cost is $15.00 a day or $25.00 for both days. See you in January!

There won’t be a workshop in December but we will be back in January. Come out and enjoy! Remember cost is $15.00 per day or $25 for both days. • January 18/19 a surprise mini project! Think of shoes? • February 22/23 Spring may not be too far away. Maybe a quick ribbon pillow! • April 26/27 The Disappearing Pinwheel quilt with Jackie Syer inspiring us! Looking forward to another fantastic year trying to finish our UFO’S (alien projects.) Come out and enjoy coffee, tea, gab fests and fun. Mary Lou & Karen, Workshop Coordinators

Comfort Quilts Season's Greeting to All, We have been able to donate a total of 87 quilts to the organizations we support since September 2018. What a wonderful effort ladies!!! The Comfort Quilt table will be open at the December meeting with kits, quilts to be quilted and quilts needing hand binding. Please come by and pick up some handy work for the cold days and nights that we'll likely experience in January. We will also have a "Colouring Book" quilt on display at the December meeting. We hope to put a number of these quilts together in the new year. During our Christmas festivities on December 19th, we will have pieces of muslin with colouring book pages drawn on them in permanent marker. We will set out some crayons with the muslin at the tables and ask that you do some colouring to provide us with squares that will be made into kits for future quilt piecing. Hopefully this will be a relaxing activity and fit in with our socialization time during the meeting. Thanks in advance for helping with this new effort. Wishing everyone a happy and healthy holiday season. Merry Christmas, Ann, Cathy and Karen

Victoria’s Quilts Canada Calendars

https://www.victoriasquiltscanada.com/ I will be bringing the 2019 Quilt calendar to the next meeting for sale. It features the work of 4 of Ancaster Guild members. It will be for sale for $10.00. All proceeds go to purchase of batting to make the quilts. Hamilton Niagara is a new branch that started in April of this year. So far we have delivered 105 quilts to people having cancer treatments who live in Hamilton Niagara. With Thanks Nancy Sinnott Member, Ancaster Quilt Guild

Thank You From Céleste Compion There are three things I want to follow up with:

• One of your members showed my husband that she cut her finger on a staple on one of my sample cards. I am so sorry! I will give the staples a check up to ensure that they are safe for future handling.

• I forgot to pass on more details about using salt to fix the colour for the indigo prints. The very first quilt I showed tonight was the indigo and muslin hand quilted HST quilt. I rinsed that in lukewarm water with salt to wash out the quilting marking and there was no running of colour. (About 1/2 cup of salt to a shallow bath.) You will find all my social media links at the end of this email. Please remind everyone how much I love photos of their projects, and anyone who has questions is welcome to reach out to me by email. My best wishes to all of you.
