Seniors requiring “Snow Removal” this season may call 311 to be placed on two lists: the Shoveling List
and the Exemption List (to not receive fines for not shoveling snow within a 24 hour period of snowing).
Ask for two confirmation number from the rep when calling 311. Serve DC is currently recruiting
volunteers to join the DC Resident Snow Team. Please check out Serve DC’s website or stop by their
office at the Reeves Center on 14th Street, NW.
As part of A FitDC’s effort to encourage residents to stay fit, Mayor Bowser has directed DPR to waive
resident fees at the Fitness Centers starting on January 1. Previously, the fitness centers required a paid
membership for access, but for 2016, those resident fees will be waived. DPR Fitness Centers offer a
variety of exercise equipment, including elliptical, stationary bikes, treadmills, free weights, universal
weight machines and more! Visit DPR’s website to find a fitness center near you.
Hands on Hearts CPR Training: Currently, FEMS is offering training the 1st and 3
rd Thursday of each
month at the 5th District MPD Headquarters. The link to register for those sessions can be found on
http://fems.dc.gov/page/hands-heart-cpr-program. If you are interested in setting up a session outside of

On January 4th, 2016, Stronghold Civic Association (SCA) meets at the Inspired Teaching Charter
School (200 Douglas St NE) from 7PM – 9PM. SCA meets every 1st Monday of each month.
On January 13th, 2016, CSOSA 5D CJAN Meeting meets at 5
th District, 1805 Bladensburg Road NE

The CJANs allow CSOSA to resolve issues at the community level and leverage community
resources to enhance and expand services to support returning citizens’ reintegration in the

On January 14th, 2016, McMillan Advisory Group (MAG) will meet at the Inspired Teaching Charter

Sand Filtration Site Redevelopment, Parcel 2). A Notice of Public Hearing: The Zoning Commission’s
update was presented on December 17th @ 6:30pm Jerrily R. Kress Memorial Hearing Room, 441 4

Street, NW, Suite 220. There is an upcoming hearing to present updated designs for this project.
Office of Planning recommends approval of the Second Stage PUD with the following conditions if the
proposed changes are addressed: If there is a reduction in the total number of units, the number of
affordable units at 80% of AMI would remain at 25; The distribution pattern of the affordable units would
be of a similar pattern and proportion to that shown on Exhibit 12C4, Sheet 12, Page 53; Flexibility to
make changes to the internal parking and loading areas would not extend to external changes or the
relocation of parking and loading entrances; The roof structure on the western portion of the building will
meet the a 1:1 setback requirement, through one or a combination of the following: (a) Selection of a
system that has an override that is no taller than the smallest setback dimension shown on the roof plan;
and/or (b) Making minor adjustments to the configuration, footprint and location of the elevator
core/stairway enclosures.

At its October 20, 2015 Public Meeting, ANC5E voted 6 in favor, 0 opposed, 2 abstained to support the
modifications of the PUD for Parcel 2, Mixed Use Multi-Family Apartments. The Applicant is scheduled
to update its current designs for another presentation to the Zoning Commission.
Z.C. Case #13-14B – Parcel 4, Jair Lynch Development Partners - Modifications to a Previously Approved
Consolidated Planned Unit (PUD) Development, Square 3128, Lot 800, of Parcel 4 Building for the Harry
Teeter’s grocery with an ANC5E vote of 6 in favor, 0 opposed and 2 abstained in support of the
modifications to accommodate the grocery’s request. Notice of Public Hearing is forthcoming.
G2 Bus Stop: Continue to negotiate for a G2 Bus Stop to be placed back at the corner of 2nd
and Bryant
St NW.
ANC5E voted to pass a request to Support DDOT Brookland/Edgewood Livability Study
ANC5E voted to pass a request for a “Dog Park Application” with the contingency of both groups
(for/opposing) having mediation on the Dog Park.
AVOID A SANITATION TICKET: Regular Trash Collection: Place trash and recycle containers
out for collection no earlier than 6:30 PM the night before and no later than 6 AM the morning of
collection day. Residents are required to remove trash and recycle containers from public space (the
alley) by 8 PM on your collection day. Bulk Trash Collection: Call 311 to set up an appointment before
placing bulk trash out (7 items) for collection. Place bulk trash out no earlier than 6:30 PM the day before
and no later than 6 AM on collection day. Place them where the trash and recycle are collected. Without
appointment: Take bulk items to the Fort Totten Transfer Station, 4900 John F. McCormack Drive NE.
