Wikipedia.org VS

MedicineNet.com

•Wikipedia.org; World-wide Publically collaborated multi-lingual encyclopedia [non-profit]

• Is the information relevant?– Yes, the information is not only relevant but

informative and easy to understand. Lots of people tend to turn to Wikipedia for an answer, great place to start a search.

• What is the sites purpose?– To provide useful information; and in this case

information that the public can add to

Wikipedia• Is this site biased? – I didn’t see anything on this site that is biased

towards being a vegan, it was simply providing information. From giving a history to actually quoting from professionals to listing all the various things vegans can and can not eat.

• Who is the author? Are they reliable? – Any member of the public can post on Wikipedia

but there are many quotes and references in this article. And at the bottom of the page you can find a list of all source of information provided.

Wikipedia• One thing I really liked about this site is that it

has a “further reading” section. In this case, listed 20+ other books, articles and films about the subject.

• Is the information correct? When was it last updated?

• At the bottom of the page it always indicates when the last time the information was updated. In this case it was updated September 13th, 2014 at 10pm.

•MedicineNet.com; We bring Doctors knowledge to you

• Is the information relevant?– Yes, some information was relevant but put together in a

very poor way

• What is the sites purpose?– This site claims to bring medical information to the

public but clearly this sites main purpose is to advertise.

– There is so much advertising and it pops up at you while scrolling through the page which is very annoying.

– For each point in the article [each heading], you have to go to another page thus switching up the ads which are continuously flashing.

MedicineNet.com• Is the site biased? Is the information

complete? – I did not feel the site was biased but in no way was

the information complete.

– I wouldn’t use this website to do any kind of actual research on a subject. The main content seemed way less important then getting the actual information correct.

• Who is the author? Are they reliable? – No idea who wrote these articles – could have been

my next door neighbours kids.

MedicineNet.com• Is the information current? Date of last

update. – At the bottom of each article it says “reviewed

by a doctor” and the date.

– For this vegan article the last time it was “review by a doctor” was 9/27/13

– Does not indicate who the doctors are or how to contact them to ask them questions.

– I would not trust any information on this site without doing further research.

So what's the Answer? Are there heath problems associate with the vegan diet?

In my opinion yes, there can be heath problems associated with being a vegan if you are not careful to get the nutrients that come with eating animal products such as meat, eggs, milk etc. What vegans need to make sure they are doing it taking supplements to avoid any serious heath issues.
