Course Rationale The Analysis BC course is designed to provide a
thorough treatment of trigonometry and analytic geometry required for AP Calculus BC. Topics covered include trigonometric functions, right triangle trig., graphing of trig. functions, identities, inverse functions, trig. equations, oblique triangles, complex numbers and DeMoivre’s Theorem, vectors, graphing functions, transformations and modeling, polynomial and rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, conic sections, parametric equations, series, sequences, and mathematical induction, polar equations, limits, graphing, as well as an introduction into derivatives.
Goals• Develop analytical thinking skills • Build problem solving skills• Prepare them to take Calculus BC
next year.
Materials Needed
• 3-ring binder with loose leaf and graph paper
• Graphing Calculator (TI-83 or 84 recommended)
• Textbook may be kept at home
Grading• Class Participation/Assignments• Homework Assignments• Unit Tests & Quizzes• Midterm & Final Exam
AB vs. BC• Analysis BC > Calc BC
» Analysis BC is an honors level» Analysis BC thoroughly covers limits and in introduction into derivatives by
the end of the year and does many topics in trig in much greater depth, so it travels at a significantly faster pace. (we do about a month worth of extra topics)
» Calc BC (AP course) studies both Calc 1 & Calc 2 in a single year.
• Analysis AB> Calc AB» Analysis AB is an honors level» Analysis AB does not cover some trig topics nor limits as rigorously nor has
an intro into derivatives.» Calc AB (AP course) studies only Calc 1
SAT Subject Test:Math 2
Students will have covered the material on the Math 2 subject test so they can take it at the end of this year if they desired or thought they would need it for colleges they may be applying to in the future. (The tests generally take place in late May or early June, so they should sign up by spring break or earlier to avoid a late fee.)
