Therefore in he corner is a good place to place it. Sans sheaf font: Less formal than sheaf, making it more appealing to a younger audience (there target audience). This is very effective. Red writing: Stand out from the other cover lines as the title of the article is written in red (following the colour scheme). This colour scheme helps the reader to recognise what the magazine is even when the cover looks different each issue. The colour scheme is effective as the black and red contrast each other, however they would stand out more if it was a plain white background. Star marketing: By advertising the exclusive interview with a celebrity, the magazine attracts their fan-base wanting to know what they said. This is effective but someone who doesn’t like the celebrity won’t be interested or might be repelled. Rule of thirds: By making the main image in the middle third, the readers eye is instantly attracted to it. The cover lines go at the outer thirds at not to disturb the focal point of the image, with the magazine title dominating the top third. This is effective as the reader will be attracted to the image, and if they like the look of the main image, they cover line are in a clear and easy place to read. In conclusion; I think the cover is effective as it looks good to a reader and seems professionally made. To improve I would photo shop the background to make it plain white to make the righting stand up more, and given the model a read top (to fit with the colour scheme). The cover seems to attract girls with the “fashion” written in bold as the first cover story, but the model has “sex appeal for men”. Gay people would also be attracted to the magazine with “I’m gay” written in bold as a cover line.

Page 1: Analyse 2 magazine covers

Masterhead:Tells the reader what the magazine is. The masterhead is bold and in capitals to attract the readers attention. The way the image cuts across the image shows the magazine is already poplar so the full name doesn’t

need to be shown

Coverlines:Key headlines and story's inside the magazine, bold titles stand out and draws attention, while not-bold text gives a very brief description of the article, enough to hook the reader. Font is uniform on the page/ in the magazine, which helps to give the

magazine a constant and iconic style and therefore an identity.

Barcode:The barcodes not needed to advertise the magazine- only

to sell it, so it’s positioned in a corner where it’s likely to be covered up when held by the reader. Therefore in he corner

is a good place to place it.

Sans sheaf font:Less formal than sheaf,

making it more appealing to a younger audience

(there target audience). This is very effective.

Red writing:Stand out from the other cover lines as the title of the article is

written in red (following the colour scheme). This colour scheme helps the reader to recognise what the magazine is even when the cover

looks different each issue. The colour scheme is effective as the

black and red contrast each other, however they would stand out

more if it was a plain white background.

Star marketing:By advertising the exclusive interview with a celebrity, the magazine attracts their fan-base wanting to know what

they said. This is effective but someone who doesn’t like the celebrity won’t be

interested or might be repelled.

Rule of thirds:By making the main image in the middle third, the readers eye is

instantly attracted to it. The cover lines go at the outer thirds at not to disturb the focal point of the image, with the magazine title

dominating the top third. This is effective as the reader will be attracted to the image, and if they like the look of the main image, they cover line are in a clear and easy place to read.

In conclusion;I think the cover is effective as it looks good to a reader and seems professionally made. To improve I would photo shop the background to make it plain white to make the righting stand up more, and given the model a read top (to fit with the colour scheme). The cover seems to

attract girls with the “fashion” written in bold as the first cover story, but the model has “sex appeal for men”. Gay people would also be attracted to the magazine with “I’m gay” written in bold as a cover line.

Page 2: Analyse 2 magazine covers

Masterhead:Telling the reader what the magazine is, because the word “college” is in the title, it Is clear the magazine is about collage life. The master head is the biggest righting on the page showing that it’s important.

Coverlines:Key headlines and story's

inside the magazine, giving the reader an insight as to what is in the magazine. They don’t

stand out as well as they could, which would make the

cover look better.

Barcode:The barcodes not needed to advertise

the magazine- only to sell it’s been placed in a corner where it’s probable

that it will be covered up when it’s picked up

Sheaf font:More informal than san sheaf,

this is an effective way of making he magazine more

appealing the younger target audience

Colour scheme:The black and pink stand out from

a plain white background. The connotation of pink is it’s a girls

colour, which when matched with the main image being a girl implies it’s a girls magazine

(probably for an all girls collage)

Main image:The image is a waste shot of

the model holding books, (to promote studying at the collage). She’s wearing pink

to match the colour scheme, which looks a lot better than if she wasn’t

matching it.

Rule of thirds:By placing the main image in the middle third, the readers

eye is attracted to it. The cover lines go at the outer thirds at not to disrupt the image, with the magazine title dominating the top

third. This give the magazine cover an appealing structure, making people more likely to

want to read it.

Lure:People will see this on the

magazine cover and will want to by it for the chance to win. This is effective if the prise is good.

Sans sheaf font:A formal font, giving the magazine a more certified and official look. This works well with the sheaf font giving

the magazine a “work and play” feel, which is very appropriate for a collage magazine. Also it reassures the readier the prize isn’t a scam

In conclusion; The magazine cover has a very feminine vibe to it, because of the black and pick colour scheme and the

woman on the front. The red and orange righting stands out well, but looks very out of place, so should be changed. The layout looks good but the cover lines need o be written in a more distinctive style (in bold or

a better font). Apart from he red and orange, the cover looks good and consistent in it’s look.
