eHealthCare Platforms• TeleConsultation Platform– Telemedicine using desktop conferencing solution c@w

that dovetails into a OpenMRS patient case management– Connects multiple hospitals with multiple remote patient

care centers and mobile health care units across the state.

How it Works …• Patient visits with the remote/local Vision Centre to undergo eye exam • Ophthalmic Assistant (OA) based at the centre conducts patient eye screening• OA user Communciate@Work to work with the remote doctor based at IGM hospital in Agartala for assessment. • OA then either prepares glasses or advises patient to go to Agartala for further treatment ( Cataract, Glaucoma etc) • C@W TeleConsultation platform presently connects 41 centers with IGM Hospital in Agartala over a 2 Mbps network (Tulip)

• Currently being explored by other parties in India and in different countries

Janani – RHCM Platform

• Janani is a platform to achieve efficiency in Remote/Field Health Care Management

• Innovative use of a mobile phone to capture and distribute data at the point of generation

• Janani’s mother and child programs– Reproductive Child Health Program for pregnant

mother/child in Gujarat, India– Prevention of aids transmission from mother to

child program in India

Page 8: An Introduction to eHealthCare Initiatives

How does it help?

• Manual system lacked enough checks for ensuring funds and service delivery and consumption

• Field Health workers were spending a significant amount of time in data capture and manual aggregation for reporting purposes– Thereby neglecting medical services delivery

• Innovative data capture through mobile phones in local language removed all manual aggregation, so FHWs could spend more time providing services and minimize wastage of funds for logistics

Page 9: An Introduction to eHealthCare Initiatives

Janani Key Features …• Redundant interfaces – Mobile / web• UID Based system tracks individual mother and child health

throughout their lifetime. • System tracks migration and service alerts ‘follow’ beneficiary• Reports and Performance Indicators per Client Programs• Provides for GPS functionality to detect service delivery

location. Photo capture during service delivery also available• Janani system generates work items for FHWs on a daily basis

and ‘pushes’ work list for better tractability thereby ensuring service delivery

InfoDocRx

– An information medicine portal to enrich patients in the USA for better management of their healthcare through their medical professionals

– Complete patient-doctor experience including session transcription and PHR

– iDoctor network from outside the USA– Full Audio/Video session with white board,

desktop sharing, recording and collaboration for a live, interactive doctor visit experience

Page 11: An Introduction to eHealthCare Initiatives

Case for Information Medicine• Severe shortage of GP (General Practice) doctors• Many subjective areas in medicine that need

substantial informational interactions/support– Endocrinology, General Practice, OBGYN,

Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Plastic Surgery, Oncology• Increasing patient interest in being better informed

of their own healthcare scenarios/decisions• Not intended to replace local Physician provider but

supplement between visits for better efficiencies• Reduces frivolous visits to ER, hence saves cost

Page 12: An Introduction to eHealthCare Initiatives

InfoDocRx Model• Select and schedule appointments with iDocs • Develop HMO-PCP type ongoing relationship model• Cost of InfoDoc session less then the cost of a copay

and hence no insurance involvement (<$15)• Business Model is to leverage corporate partners to

provide this as a service to the employees/members• Market Direct to customers at a future date• Scalability will require a dedicated core team of

doctors and nurses besides a network of specialists• All medical decisions remain with the US Doctors

Page 13: An Introduction to eHealthCare Initiatives

In Summary …• TeleDoc: Leverage C@W to provide a turnkey

Teleconsultation solution for developing countries– Leverage local doctor network in Metros– Supplement with overseas (India) doctor network

• Janani: Leverage platform for monitoring funds, documenting, reporting and management of ‘rural’ HealthCare delivery – mother/child programs

• InfoDocRx: An Information Medicine Portal to educate and increase patient awareness to better manage their healthcare with their Physicians
