You’ve seen them before.

But what if . . .

They’re in your own back yard?

Your father. Your mother. Your children.

Your brothers and sisters. Your neighbors.

Luis Mendoza works part-time for a

wholesale grocer for $6.75/hour. After taxes, his family’s monthly income is

$1,787. He returned the $5 bill you

dropped at the gas station last Tuesday.

Lynn Johnson is a single mother.

Although she works full-time and has a

college degree, she has been struggling to

make ends meet since her husband left

two years ago. Her monthly income is

$1,365. You saw her waiting for the bus

yesterday.

Raymond Washington is a war veteran.

Because of an injury, he is unable to find

work. Raymond lives on the streets or tries

to get a bed at the local shelter. You

saw him petting a dog outside a restaurant

last month.

Dora Parker has custody of her 8-year-old granddaughter. Her only source of income is her late husband’s Social Security payment

which provides $786 each month. She

used to play bridge at a church in your

home town.

Patricia and her 5 children finally left her abusive husband. She struggles to make ends meet cleaning houses. You saw her waiting in

line at Wal-Mart last weekend.
