Welcome This term we have had a number of students and their families start at William Ruthven Primary School. I would like to welcome these families to the school and trust that their time here will be a most enjoyable one. Welcome to all our new stu-dents. Great work It is been a smooth start to the term with all the students settling into their work. I have been very impressed with the way the students have enthusiastically jumped into their learning. In particular I would like to congratulate Noor F from grade 1/2 for working very hard and showing great improvement in her reading. Keep up the great work Noor. School Hats With the warmer weather fast approaching, students must now wear hats when they are outside in the playground. During term four the wearing of hats is compul-sory. School Council have recently changed the style of hat the children wear. The old style hat can still be worn by the students but we will only be selling the new style of hat. The new hats can be purchased from the office. When students are playing interschool sports or going on an excursion they will be required to wear a hat. Student Free Day On Monday 2
nd November we will be having a student free day. On this day staff
will be undertaking professional development in preparation for the 2016 school year. There will be no school for students on this day. 2016 Planning Foundation enrolments for 2016 are now being taken, if you have a child or know of a child starting school in 2016 and they are interested in coming to William Ruthven Primary School, they should contact the office and collect the necessary enrolment forms and brochures. If you have any queries or any questions about sending your child to William Ruthven PS in 2016 please feel free to contact me either by phone, email or by arranging an appointment. If you know of families that are thinking of transferring their children to William Ruthven Primary School could you please ask them to contact the school as soon as possible. Classes are currently being organized for next year. It is important that we know about future enrolments as soon as possible so that we can thoroughly plan for the start of the 2016 school year.

Compliments make people feel good. Give a compliment everyday!
As part of our PATHS Program plus Health and Wellbeing we have been encouraging the students to say kind
things to each other. So they are practising finding good things to compliment each other about.

Simple Machines Incursion with Anatolli
On Tuesday 13th October the 3/4’s had an incursion and we got to build a solar sun car. The main materials we used were wood, a hammer, nails, safety glasses, a saw, stencil, grey led and sand paper. We also built a car pencil holder. We used a light piece of wood for the base for both items, because if we used a heavy piece of wood it would put too much pressure on the wheels and it would make it go slow. My favour-ite part of our incursion was when I cut the piece of wood with the hand saw and then I sanded it. At the end, Anatolli the instructor built a gar-age. It was incredible and we all had a really fun day.

Sick Students
Deciding when to keep a sick child at home from school is not always easy. It’s important for chil-dren to attend school but when a child is genu-inely sick they need to stay home and be cared for by an adult in order to get well and to prevent spreading illness to others. The school does not have the facilities or the staff to care for students that are unwell. Please ensure your emergency details are kept up to date and provide the school with an alter-native contact if you cannot be reached. We thank you for your cooperation and trust all families display our school value of RESPECT in this matter.
Hay Fever & Allergies
There has been quite a number of students coming to the sick bay complaining of itchy and sore eyes, runny noses, blocked noses, sneez-ing and skin rashes. There is not a lot the school can do other than give the student a cold compress to relieve the eyes or rash. If your child suffers from hay fever or allergies and has medication to relieve the symptoms, you may send the medication to school, along with a note giving the school permission to ad-minister the medication. The note must include the dose to be given. NO medication will be administered without a parent permission note.
Lost Property There is a number of lost property items in the lost property basket out-side Foundation B classroom. If your child has lost uniform, could you please take the time to check through our lost property basket. We also urge that all items of uniform are clearly labelled with your child’s name.
—————— A considerable amount of money is spent each year by parents buying their child a school uniform. Most parents label their uniform with their child’s name. Throughout the year, students take off their jumper or hat while they are playing or in the classroom during class time. At times children mistakenly pick up a jumper, hat or other piece of uni-form thinking that it belongs to them and take it home. If you notice that your child has brought home a piece of uniform that is labelled with an-other child’s name, could you please return it back to school, as another child is missing that part of their uniform. It would be greatly appreciated by the school and those families that are missing pieces of school uniform, if you could regularly go through your child’s school uniform making sure that they are correctly labelled and returning any items belonging to other children.
Thanking you for your cooperation in this matter.
