Great Work This week I would like to congratulate Shuvai N and Poppy M from the Foundation class for their great work on Australian Animals. Both students were able to tell me some very interesting facts about Echidnas. Well done girls. At the other end of the school, I would like to congratulate Vicky L and Marco S for a great effort in working out the perimeter and area of regular shapes, that were written in a worded form. The team work they showed was very impressive . I would also like to congratulate all of the students from Foundation to Grade 2 who have taken part in our swimming program. The students have just completed the school swimming program at Reservoir Leisure Centre. All of the students have benefitted from being involved. Foundation Transition Foundation transition commenced last week with all of our new Foundation students coming to school last Friday. They had a chance to meet their buddies and work in the Foundation room. They all had a terrific time leaving the session with a smile on their face and some work to display. Thank you to all of the grade four and five buddies for supporting our new students. They will be back again on Friday for the second transi-tion day. Parent Helpers morning Tea Parent helpers play an integral role at our school. They help out in a variety of ways, from hearing children read, participating on School Council, school banking, helping in class, covering books and doing odd jobs around the school. The support that we get from our school community is what helps make William Ruthven PS a great school. As a small token of our appreciation, we will be holding a parent helpers thank you morning tea on Wednesday 30th November commencing at 10:30. If you have helped out around the school in any way at any time this year, it would be great to see you there. Thank You I would like to thank the Raydan family for their wonderful sponsorship of our Student of the Week Awards. Students who receive an individual student of the week award at our school assembly, will also receive a free pizza gift voucher from the Pizza and Pasta on Broadway for their great work. Please support Pizza and Pasta on Broadway restaurant as they have supported the school. Important Dates We have a number of important events coming up soon. Please check the calendar for these events and dates.

3/4A Historical Aboriginal Art Work This term we have been looking at Aboriginal History and Dreamtime Stories. So far we have looked at The
Rainbow Serpent, How the Kangaroo Got Her Pouch and Tiddalick the Frog. We always write a summary and do
dot paintings about each story and now we have started to create a comic about The Rainbow Serpent.
Grade 3/4B have been working on an aboriginal dreamtime story called the Rainbow Serpent. We wrote our own versions of The Rainbow Serpent.

ROYAL BOTANIC GARDENS EXCURSION: MONDAY 7th November, 2016
1. List three things you did on the excursion. We walked through a tree called Bunya Bunya pine tree. We made paint with rocks. We use the Lomandra bush to make string. 2. List two interesting facts you learnt We learnt a new word called Wominjeka it means Welcome in Aboriginal. We also learnt that there are two different boomerangs, one is used to make some animals think it is a bird and that would be a distraction and that is the one that would come back, the second one was to kill the animals and it wouldn’t come back. 3. What was your favourite experience and why? My favourite experience was making the paint because it was fun and it was also so smooth. You had to crunch this red rock that was soft and then put a little bit of water on it. Once you mixed it then you were able to use that paint to make a paint-ing. 4. What was one plant used in the welcoming ceremony and what did it represent? One of the plants was a eucalypts tree and that would repre-sent the parents, the wattle tree represents the grandparents, and the Cherry Ballard tree represented the children. 5. Write one artifact, its name and purpose. The emu caller was a sphere shape. It would attract the emus so that the men could kill them and eat them. 6. Did women and men have different roles? What were they? Yes, women and men had different roles. They were hunters and gatherers. The men were hunters they would kill animals and the women would gather the food. By Lemi
