Solar PV Installations for the Domestic Market continue to increase
throughout 2011
Earlier this year the Department of Energy and Climate Change released figures which demonstrated
a dramatic increase in the number of Solar PV installations within the UK domestic market.
Since the previous year, the figures show that the number of installations that have taken place have
more than tripled which could be as a direct result of the government’s Feed‐In‐Tariff (FIT) scheme
(also known as the energy cash‐back scheme).
In April last year, the Government introduced Feed‐In‐Tariffs (FITs) under the powers in the Energy
Act 2008.
Feed‐In‐Tariffs mean that anyone that installs eligible Solar PV systems will receive a guaranteed
fixed payment for the electricity generated for a period of 25 years.
This payment includes energy that they utilise themselves as well as the energy that is fed back into
the National Grid.
The Feed‐In‐Tariff was brought in to incentivise homeowners to produce their own electricity via
installations such as Solar PV.
The Feed‐In‐Tariff currently offers 43.3p for every kilowatt hour of electricity that the solar panels
produce and this figure is paid on the total produced not just energy used by the home owner
making the benefits to the home owner far greater.
Additionally, home owners with Solar PV installations are currently paid 3p per kilowatt for
electricity that is sent back to National Grid. This energy can then be used by others – this additional
payment is known as an export tariff.
If the domestic property is also fitted with a Smart Meter, the homeowner will be able to gain
accurate export figures but for those without, the export tariff assumption is based upon 50% of the
electricity being sent back to the grid.
The data provided from Smart Meters provides a valuable source of energy management
information, which can be accessed online. This enables users to analyse energy consumption, spot
usage patterns and predict future trends.

Using CNPV ' Black gaining maximum benefit.Beauty ' panels gives a more aestheticallypleasing finished look. Coupled with the Swiss madeSolarmax inverter providing the complete energyproducing system.
The thin Blue Welsh Slate on this roof provideda particular challenge to our roofers.
Information on the system was well illustrated and concise, relevant for our area.Wm Dyer Ltd came recommended by another contractor we had used.
We were impressed by the solar panels used, more discreet that many we had seen.
Mrs Susan & Mr John Cuthbertson
Very good team of workmen, polite and helpful. We feel that Wm Dyer havegone the extra mile to make our installation successful.
